Fans were left smiling earlier today when trainer/manager Cesar Gracie announced the UFC had contacted welterweight Nick Diaz with a potential opponent and the Stockton-based scrapper was giving the opportunity some significant consideration. However, company head Dana White had a different take on the matter when contacted for confirmation on the potential pairing.

According to a text White sent MMAFighting, “Nobody at the UFC talked to Gracie or anyone else that reps Nick.”

It remains to be seen whether Gracie’s claims were fabricated, the result of a prank, a misunderstanding, an example of jumping the gun, or the result of some other situation. The 26-9 Diaz has been “retired” since a March loss to Georges St-Pierre, his second straight by way of decision.
