When fans and media offer their opinions on the attack of UFC heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos they typically label him as a powerful boxer with excellent technique. While Dos Santos’ opponent tomorrow night, Frank Mir, doesn’t necessarily disagree with the first part of the assessment he does take exception to the notion that the Brazilian’s boxing is as sharp as some may think.

“I don’t think his technique is as superb as some people think it is because it’s hidden by the fact that he is so incredibly quick,” explained Mir in an interview with the UFC’s website promoting his UFC 146 title-fight with Dos Santos.

Mir Says Dos Santos is "Dead" if Action Hits the Ground

“There’s no way I’m gonna sit here and say I’ve got it figured out. No, it’s not the easiest thing to replicate,” Mir continued when asked how he expected to deal with Dos Santos’ speed. “But I’ve watched past fights, and to be honest I’ve watched a lot of boxing matches to see how did this guy deal with this guy when he had blinding speed, and see how they have to kind of put the guy in a phone booth or cut the ring off, and I take heed of that.”

Mir concluded by mentioning he’d studied how boxers cut off particularly quick opponents as well as how Dos Santos fared against Roy Nelson when “Cigano” slowed down in the later frames.
