A Closer Look At Strikeforce "Fedor vs. Henderson": Paul Daley vs. Tyron Woodley

This entry into “A Closer Look At strikeforce: ‘Fedor vs. Henderson’” kicks off the second day of my very in-depth look at Strikeforce’s upcoming mega-event. Part 1 saw me examine the preliminary fights, it’s available here. Part two featured a very interesting match-up between Scott Smith and Tarec Saffiedine that gets both men at a pivotal moment of their careers. It can be viewed here. And now it’s time for another match-up that has far-reaching consequences, especially considering that Nick Diaz recently vacated his Strikeforce Welterweight Championship. Let’s dive right into Paul Daley vs. Tyron Woodley. ...

What If He Wins? Featuring Nick Diaz
What If He Wins? Featuring Nick Diaz

On April 9, 2011, Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz will defend his belt against arguably his most dangerous challenger yet and perhaps one of the toughest tests Diaz will have yet faced in his career. Standing in Diaz’s way to becoming Strikeforce’s most dominant champion is knockout artist Paul Daley, who has earned the nickname “Semtex” with twenty (T)KO wins. Many are calling for Diaz to win, and as a huge fan of Nick I’m certainly pulling for him. But what happens if he does? Here’s a new entry in my “What If He Wins?” series, focusing on what I think will happen if Nick Diaz beats Paul Daley. ...

Well-financed, upstart MMA organizations tend to chase the UFC by trying to lure established stars with wads of money.  Ask EliteXC, who had more problems than just that, and Affliction.  They'll both tell you that method doesn't work.  Thankfully, Strikeforce has been different since day one.  CEO Scott Coker and the gang started off as a San Jose regional show, mostly bringing in names from that area.  Then, of course, came the Showtime and CBS deals, which led to some of that big name fighter luring- Fedor Emelianenko, anyone?  But after watching Friday night's Strikeforce Challengers 13 event, it became obvious that they have some pretty impressive up and coming talent.  Tyron Woodley, Daniel Cormier, Ovince St. Preux, and Amanda Nunes, for example.   A few years from now, if Strikeforce is able to keep most of these fighters, watch out; ...

What's Next For The Winners And Losers Of Strikeforce: "Challengers 13"?

Strikeforce held its “Challengers 13” event last night, and it was an interesting night of fights that, in the “Challengers” tradition, showcased a wide array of new and emerging talent. Although I did find a few bouts underwhelming, looking towards the future, it’s clear that some big stars are on their way. Several of Strikeforce’s young guns notched victories at the event, and in a tradition of my own, here’s the latest edition of “What’s Next for the Winners and Losers”, featuring Strikeforce “Challengers 13”. ...

Strikeforce "Challengers 13" Results: A Brilliant First-Round KO Highlights A Slightly Underwhelming Show

The thirteenth edition of the “Strikeforce Challengers” series of shows is now a thing of the past, and the event was well worth watching despite falling a bit short of my loftiest expectations. The show featured several Strikeforce young guns, all of which recorded some impressive victories, the highlight of which saw Amanda Nunes outright steal the show. Here are the full results as well as some early commentary on Strikeforce: “Challengers 13”. ...

Strikeforce "Challengers 13" Picks And Predictions

Three days from now Strikeforce will look to hold its “Challengers 13” event, with a five-fight main card being broadcast live on Showtime. As is customary, here’s another edition of “Picks and Predictions”, this time featuring Strikeforce “Challengers 13”. ...

5 Reasons to Watch Strikeforce "Challengers 13"

Although the shows usually only make waves in certain circles, Strikeforce is set to hold its thirteenth “Challengers” event a little over a week from now, on January 7. Most MMA fans are focused on this week’s double-stuffed weekend, which will see the DREAM/K-1 super-show “DYNAMITE!! 2010” go down on New Year’s Eve, with UFC 125: “Resolution” airing live on Pay-Per-View the very next day. And while I too am pumped for the weekend’s festivities, I’m also very interested for “Strikeforce Challengers 13”. Don’t believe me? Wondering why? Here are five early reasons to be excited for the show. ...

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker Impressed with Paul Daley, Offers Up Several Possible Opponents

Paul Daley’s future is once again bright. The notorious British bad-boy who was most famously kicked out of the UFC after attacking Josh Koscheck after the bell has now found new life in Strikeforce, thanks to one of the biggest KO’s the heavy-handed “Semtex” has ever managed to deliver. At the recent “Henderson vs. Babalu 2” event, Daley shut down and beat up “Comeback King” Scott Smith before finishing him with a knockout so vicious that it’ll likely remain on Daley’s highlight reel for the rest of his career. In a new interview, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker recently stated that he can’t wait to book Daley again and looks forward to seeing how far “Semtex” can go in Strikeforce. ...

Welterweight contender Tyron Woodley faces Tarec Saffiedine in Strikeforce in January

After posting his most impressive career win to date on the main stage of a Strikeforce show last October, Tyron Woodley will be making a quick return to the cage. In his last outing, Woodley defeated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion Andre Galvao via knockout. The win took Tyron less than two-minutes to get the job done, due largely to his trainings with American Top Team, which have since honed the collegiate wrestler into a mixed martial artist. Now, Tyron will return to the Strikeforce Challenger Series once again, serving as the main-event of the evening when he takes on the ultra-impressive Tarec Saffiedine, whom is also undefeated under the Strikeforce banner. ...

"Strikeforce: Diaz vs Noons II" Payroll: Diaz and "The Punk" take top-billing

strikeforce, last Saturday night, but together yet another stellar card in 2010. October 9 saw welterweight champion Nick Diaz successfully defend his title for the first time against rival KJ Noons, earning a bit of revenge in the process. The two fighters met 3 years ago under the now defunct Elite XC banner, where Noons was declared the winner after cutting Nick with several telling blows, which eventually lead to a Doctors stoppage after the end of the first round. However, the second time around, Diaz was able to outbox the professional boxer, en route to a unanimous decision victory after a hard-fought five round affair. ...

What's Next for the Winners and Losers of Strikeforce: "Diaz vs. Noons 2"?

Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another edition of “What’s Next?” Today’s piece centers on Strikeforce: “Diaz vs. Noons 2”. The event saw some good fights, a few questionable flubs on the part of the refereeing and judging staff, and several noteworthy moments. In the main event, Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz evened out the score to his incredibly bitter rivalry with KJ Noons. But where does this huge win leave Diaz, and for that matter, where does everyone go from here? Here’s what I think the future holds for some of the big winners and losers of Strikeforce: “Diaz vs. Noons 2”. ...

The Pit middleweight Tim Kennedy (13-2) tapped out Zak Cummings (10-1) in a north-south choke at 2:43 of round two at Strikeforce Challenger Series 3 in Tulsa Friday night. Kennedy was spectacular!  In round two, Kennedy hopped into a standing guillotine attempt, slipped out of easily by Cummings.  Kennedy put Cummings against the cage, but Cummings pushed clear, falling neatly into another choke.  Cumming rolled free, but Kennedy transitioned quickly into the final choke, forcing the tap out. ...
