Not so long ago were the heralded PRIDE days, where some of the best fighters assembled under one roof—but with a catch. Now, fans are accustomed to bouts that are under strict relegations of the unified rules of combat: no knees to a downed opponent, no kicks to the head of a downed a opponent, no stomps, etc.

However, all these seemingly “archaic” (or what I call “fun”) discrepancies will be tossed out the window when Gilbert Yvel and Tony Lopez headlining “Colosseo Championship Fighting 6: Bushido” which will feature the old school PRIDE rules that made every fan a die hard PRIDE fan.

The event takes place on July 23rd on the outskirts of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada though no venue has been tapped as of yet.

Promoter Pasqualino Santoro has lobbied to have the International Combative Sports Association to oversee the event in an effort to have the “unorthodox” special-rules carried out, which will allow the aforementioned soccer kicks, stomps, and knees to the head of a grounded opponent–something that is not regularly seen in the United States and mostly in overseas action.

“I’d rather watch a DREAM event than a UFC event”, began Pasqualino in an interview with MMAJunkie.com.

“And with all the stuff going on in Japan right now, I don’t see a big problem with honoring the Japanese people by going with PRIDE rules.”

Gilbert, a veteran of the old PRIDE days will likely gladly welcome the rules that he had become accustomed to in the earlier stages of his career. In his way will be former King of the Cage light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Tony Lopez. Both men have a penchant for punching people in the face, so it should turn into an all out war, which is something that I’m sure influenced the decision for this particular bout to headline the card.

Light heavyweight Tony Lopez (12-3) tapped Victor Nemkov (1-1) in a rear naked choke at 3:06 of round two.

Middleweight Giva Santana (3-1) tapped Radmir Gabdullin (1-1) in an arm triangle at 3:47 of round one.

Middleweight Rosen Dimitrov (2-2) eeked out a majority decision over Mikko Suvanto (7-3), who was a late replacement from Lucio Linhares (10-3), team Finland’s star. However, Suvanto’s was Finland’s only loss in Seoul.

Popular Finnish lightweight Niko Puhakka (11-7) stepped up to TKO rising Bulgarian Yanko Yanev (4-1) at 2:16 of round one.

Heavyweight Toni Valtonen (15-7) tapped Nikola Dipchkov (0-1) in a triangle at 4:49 of round one.

Light heavyweight Marcus Vanttinen (9-1) forced Emil Samoilov (0-1) to verbally submit at 3:42 of the third round.

Welterweight Janne Tulirinta improved to 10-3 with a first round TKO of Ivan Ivanov (3-2).

Korean heavyweight Hae Joon Yang (2-0) devastated Brazillian grappler “Mamute” Joaquim Ferrera (2-3) with KO 14 seconds from the opening bell.

Light heavyweight Alexander Machado (1-0) tapped Dool Hee Lee (2-4) in a rear naked choke at 3:26 of round two.

Middleweight Daniel Acacio (14-5) pulled off a two-round majority decision victory over Jae Young Kim (10-9).

Welterweight Eduardo Pamplona (9-2) won a UD over Do Hyung Kim (11-7).

Debuting Korean lightweight Nam Yui Chul won a UD over Hacran Dias (6-2).

The card’s main event between welterweight champion “Slam” Aaron Wetherspoon (7-2) and challenger Anthony Lapsley (11-3) was one of the false starts.

Top super heavyweight contender “Rhino” Mike Bourke‘s (8-11-1) match-up versus “King of the Streets” Chance Williams (6-2) never had a chance, also ending in a No Contest.

In the match-ups that actually got off, top 205-pound contender “Kryptonite” Tony Lopez (8-2) submitted Joey Beltran (4-2) by Kimura at 3:15 of the first round.

Donald Sanchez (11-7) TKO’d William Sriyrapai (10-4) at 3:41 of round two to climb into the lightweight rankings.

Lightweight “Dynamite” Gregg Dalton (5-2) exploded on Dave Rivas (8-7-1) for a second round knockout at 3:41.

“Insane” Georgi Karakhanyan (5-1-1) won a unanimous decision over “Mando” Armando Sanchez at lightweight.

Light heavyweight Ben Fuimaono (2-1) tapped lanky kickboxer Miguel Cosio (1-5) in an armbar at 2:11 of round two.

Daniel Hernandez (2-3) scored a first round TKO of Daniel Mancha at 1:10.

In the main event, light heavyweight Hawaiian Poai Suganuma (9-1), a veteran of Pancrase, ended Jared Hamman‘s (9-1) perfect record in just 15 seconds by TKO.

Brazilian lightweight “Morango” Fabricio Camoes (8-4) knocked out veteran Joe Camacho (10-12-3) at 3:30 of round one.

Undefeated Team Oyama middleweight Givanildo Santana (11-0) remained so after finding an armbar to submit “Luke Duke” Matt Lucas (9-1) at 4:49 of the first round.

Santana’s featherweight teammate Bao Quach (13-8-1) knocked out former UFC fighter Douglas Evans (5-3) 55 seconds into the fight.

Team Oyama scored another stoppage when heavyweight Tony Lopez (6-2) TKO’d Terrell Dees (2-2) at 1:09 of round two.

Middleweight Brent Cooper (3-0) TKO’d debuting Jaime Iracheta (0-1) at 1:30 of the first round.

Rookie Luke Riddering (1-0) TKO’d fellow nube Yasser Pezzat (0-1) at 2:53 of round one.

175-pound Lucas Gamaza (2-0) remained undefeated after a unanimous decision over Devin Howard (1-1).

Roberto Vargas (1-0) tapped fellow rook’ Telly Sanders (0-1) in a shoulder lock 1:53 into round three.
