One And Done, Over And Out: Thoughts On Tim Hague's Release

It’s become a fact of life for just about every UFC performer: if you don’t break a losing-streak soon, you can expect a pink-slip in the days following your latest loss. Everyone seems to be on the chopping block these days, and UFC “Fight for the Troops 2” was no exception, even if it was a charity show designed to raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Recently it was announced that "Fight for the Troops 2" co-main eventer Tim Hague has been released by the promotion. Here’s my reaction to this interesting bit of news. ...

Tim Hague cut again by the UFC following recent loss
Tim Hague cut again by the UFC following recent loss

Tim Hague was hoping to breathe new life in his second stint with the UFC. Coming off of an impressive win over former UFC fighter Travis Wiuff, knocking out the near 80-fight veteran inside of the first-round, it looked like Hague had finally put everything together in order to be successful in the organization's ultra-talent-rich heavyweight division. However, the native of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada instead went on to disappoint when he suffered a first-round TKO to rising prospect Matt Mitrione last Saturday at "UFC Fight for the Troops 2". In turn, the loss also posed the reason why he was released yet again by the worlds largest mixed martial arts promotion. ...

The Continuing Evolution Of Matt Mitrione: Where Does He Go From Here?

Matt Mitrione has fared considerably well in his time inside the ufc’s famed Octagon, when you take into account how new he is to the sport and how relatively inexperienced he should be. This is a man that made his professional MMA debut in the sport’s largest organization, and he’s yet to stumble or even momentarily falter. After a very convincing performance against Tim Hague, Mitrione remains humble despite his successes, and recently gave an interesting take on his “Fight for the Troops 2” performance and what he hopes to accomplish in the near future. Here are all the details. ...

UFC "Fight For The Troops 2" Medical Supensions: Five Injured, Two Out Indefinitely Including Matt Mitrione

Another successful UFC event gives way to another string of medical suspensions. The UFC recently held its “Fight for the Troops 2” event, designed to raise money for non-profit charity organization The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The event saw awesome knockouts, great submissions, and good fights aplenty. And compared to the string of grizzly injuries the first “Fight for the Troops” event produced, everyone involved is likely counting their blessings that only five fighters were medically suspended following this latest event. Here are all the details. ...

What's Next For The Winners And Losers Of UFC "Fight For The Troops 2"?

It’s that time once again, fans and friends. Another major MMA event has come and gone, and I’m sure many of us are wondering “what’s next?” Yesterday’s “Fight for the Troops 2” event certainly gave us a lot to talk about, considering that it featured great submissions, brilliant knockouts, and dominating performances. As is customary, here’s the latest entry in my series that looks at what the future holds for the big winners and losers of an event, this time featuring UFC “Fight for the Troops 2”. ...

UFC "Fight For The Troops 2" Results: Good Fights And A Great Cause Make An Event Well Worth Watching

The UFC continues to shine early and often in 2011, and this fact was readily apparent in tonight’s “Fight for the Troops 2”. While it probably won’t win “Event of the Year”, it was definitely a very solid event featuring several entertaining fights. And it was for a great cause: the event was designed to help raise funds for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a nonprofit charity that helps veterans and the families of veterans. From good brawls to slick submissions, “Fight for the Troops 2” was a big success for a Spike TV show. Here are the full results as well as some initial commentary on UFC “Fight for the Troops 2”. ...

Matt Mitrione stays undefeated, TKO's Hague in Round 1
Matt Mitrione stays undefeated, TKO's Hague in Round 1

Matt Mitrione remains undefeated as he blasts through veteran Tim Hague in a one-round drubbing of the Canadian heavyweight fighter. Before his fellow countryman, at Fort Hood in Killeen, Tex. during tonight's "UFC Fight for the Troops 2", Mitrione put on arguably the best performance of his career when he utilized his improved stand up abilities, courtesy of trainer Duke Roufus. ...

Tim Hague Won't Quit... But Is That Enough To Beat Matt Mitrione?

It’s been a very interesting past few years for UFC fighter Tim Hague, and no one knows that better than the man himself. Heading into a fight with a relative unknown, Hague’s record stood at a very respectable 10-1. That unknown was Todd Duffee, though, who scored the fastest recorded KO in UFC history when he caught and finished Hague seven seconds into their fight. The loss would start a three-fight losing-streak. After stepping back down into the minor leagues and scoring two straight first-round KO victories, Hague steps into the Octagon for the fifth time tomorrow, facing rising UFC star Matt Mitrione. And the irony of competing in the semi-main event of a UFC show while Todd Duffee is nowhere to be found is not lost on Hague. ...

What If He Wins? Featuring Matt Mitrione

Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another edition of “What If He Wins?” a new series that looks at what the future might hold for an MMA star should he win his big upcoming fight. Today’s fighter is Matt Mitrione, known as “Meathead” during the tenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” due to his antics outside of the cage. Inside the Octagon, however, Mitrione has shown surprising versatility despite his relative newness to the sport, and seems to have a good mix of KO power, a solid chin, and a big heart. Heading into his “Fight for the Troops 2” showdown with Tim Hague, Mitrione is quickly emerging as a potential can’t-miss prospect. So what if he wins? Here are my thoughts. ...

UFC "Fight For The Troops 2" Picks and Predictions

On January 22, 2011, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will hold its second “Fight for the Troops” event and its third event ever held inside a military base. This special edition of the UFC’s normal “Fight Night Live” outings is designed to raise both awareness and funds for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a non-profit charity. Several interesting match-ups are scheduled for the event, so as is customary, here are my official picks and predictions. ...

We’re under two weeks from the second UFC “Fight for the Troops” event, a live night of fights designed to help raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, and fight fans should already be excited for what is shaping up to be a great night of MMA action. Matt Mitrione vs Tim Hague set for "UFC Fight for the Troops 2"

Matt Mitrione will look to continue on his undefeated record in tact when he meets ufc veteran Tim Hague coming up in January. After appearing on the ultra-popular 10th season of "The Ultimate Fighter" where "Meat Head" didn't make it past the quarter-finals when UFC light-heavyweight James McSweeney defeated him via guillotine choke (albeit in an exhibition match up). However, following his stint on the show, Mitrione, a former NFL defensive tackle, was invited back to the season's finale show in December of 2009. Successful in his UFC debut, Matt was able to dispatch of fan favorite and season semi-finalist Marcus Jones, knocking him out in just 10 seconds in the second-round. And after impressive performances against Kevin Ferguson, better known as "Kimbo Slice" and most recently Joey Beltran in front of a hometown crowd at UFC 119 in Indianapolis, Ind. In the fight with Beltran, Matt had only two professional fights to his credit against Beltran's 15. However, Mitrione proved that skill beats experience, and was able to walk away with a unanimous decision victory. ...

The REAL Reason why Todd Duffee was released from the UFC
The REAL Reason why Todd Duffee was released from the UFC

While Todd Duffee's presence is already missed from the ufc, his release was left as a last resort. The heavyweight star made waves right away in the division when his much anticipated octagon debut met and exceeded all expectations, when the 24-year-old knocked out veteran Tim Hague in just 7 seconds at UFC 102 in August of last year. Sidelined due to injury, Duffee returned 9 months later and was thoroughly dominating PRIDE veteran Mike Russow for two and a half rounds. Then, out of nowhere, the body builder was put down by the body spiller, when a vicious right hand connected for Russow, another one followed and Duffee was out cold. Now this wouldn't be enough reason to release a previously undefeated heavyweight prospect with the kind of buzz that surrounded Todd, but if you read you might see why he got his UFC walking papers. ...

The Hype Train Derailed: UFC Releases Record-Setting Todd Duffee

The ufc is easily the most competitive pro MMA organization on the planet. Those that don’t measure up are quickly disposed of, no matter what their accolades were in the past. Keith Jardine was a fan-favorite veteran of over a dozen UFC fights and still got the axe. Kimbo Slice helped bring in some of the biggest ratings in the history of the “Ultimate Fighter” reality TV show, and he quickly received his pink slip after going 1-1 in the organization. And according to MMAJunkie.com, you can now add Todd Duffee, who holds the record for the quickest KO in UFC history, to the growing list of UFC exiles. ...
