What's Next For The Winners And Losers Of UFC 130?

UFC 130: “Rampage vs. Hamill” is now a thing of the past. Quinton Jackson has now taken a big step towards another shot at a UFC championship, and so has Frank Mir. UFC 130 "Rampage vs. Hamill" Results: An Event That Unfortunately Lives Up To The "Anti-Hype"

Another one went into the history books tonight, fans and friends. The ufc continued its long journey by holding its one hundred and thirtieth event yesterday, featuring what was expected to be several interesting matches between big-name stars. So, how was “Rampage vs. Hamill”? Unfortunately, this is one of the rare instances where I’m wrong for all the right reasons. I wanted to like this card, I tried to keep telling myself that it’d be better than everyone was saying it would be. And it was… just not by much. UFC 130 "Rampage vs. Hamill" Picks And Predictions

We’re now only a few days away from UFC 130: “Rampage vs. Hamill”. In the main event, former “Ultimate Fighter” contestant Matt Hamill takes on his toughest test to date: former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Jackson. The co-main event will also be an interesting match-up, as former UFC Heavyweight and Interim Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir takes on “Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 winner Roy Nelson. As is customary, here is my official “picks and predictions” post (covering who I think will win and why), now featuring UFC 130. ...

A Closer Look At UFC 130: Thiago Alves vs. Rick Story

Hello once more fans and friends, it’s now time for another entry in my special three-day mini-series event “A Closer Look at UFC 130”. I’ve covered the Facebook preliminary broadcast, the Spike TV preliminary broadcast, and I’ve just started on the official Pay-Per-View broadcast. UFC 130 is shaping up to be a great card with plenty of big matches, and this is becoming more and more apparent as we get higher and higher on the Pay-Per-View card. Now it’s time to focus on a welterweight clash that pits former UFC Welterweight Championship challenger Thiago Alves against the surging Rick Story. ...

The Latest On UFC 130: Edgar/Maynard 3, Stann/Silva, Rampage/Silva, Mir/Nelson, And More

For several reasons, ufc 125 “Resolution” has already emerged as the possible “Sleeper Hit” of the year, thanks in no small part to the epic second showdown between Frank Edgar and Gray Maynard. A large section of the fanbase doubted Edgar’s and Maynard’s ability to put on an exciting fight, but in the end, the two headlining attractions of UFC 125 gave us five amazing rounds of action in a fight that has already emerged as a “Fight of the Year” contender. The UFC recently announced the hotly-anticipated third encounter between the two, as well as several other awesome bouts, for their upcoming UFC 130 show, which is now officially UFC 130 “Edgar vs. Maynard 3”. Here are all the details. ...

Rick Story calls out Thiago Alves to climb up the welterweight ladder

Rick Story is a grinder. He's a finisher, he's a prospect, and he knows becoming a legitimate threat in the welterweight division. "The Horror" Story was most recently in action on December 4 for "The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale" when he defeated fellow budding star Johnny Hendricks, extending his win streak to now five-in-a-row and becoming a prominent fixture in the 170-pound weight class. Rather then wait for the UFC to take notice and plan their next move for Rick, the welterweight star has went on his own initiative and called out one of the best that the division has to offer. Who? Well, it's Thiago Alves. ...

Rick "The Horror" Story Looks to Begin Writing the Next Chapter of His Career With a Win Over Thiago Alves

While the phrase “quietly making waves” can be considered a bit of an oxymoron, it almost-perfectly describes the situation UFC Welterweight Rick Story finds himself in. The three-year MMA veteran has been a bit of a background fighter in his time with the UFC, but that’s a bit unfair when you consider that he’s on a five-fight win-streak with two finishes and hasn’t lost since June 2009. Now more than ever, Story is looking to break away from the shackles of obscurity and emerge as a legitimate threat in the crowded, highly-competitive Welterweight division of the UFC. And according to a recent interview, Story would like to use former UFC Welterweight Championship contender Thiago Alves as the first stepping stone towards an inevitable title shot. ...

"Pitbull" Unleashed: Thiago Alves Promises That He's Back, and I'll Hold Him to That Promise

What an interesting year it’s been for the top-ranked and resurgent Thiago Alves. Alves entered 2010 coming off of undoubtedly the biggest loss of his career, a five-round all-out thrashing courtesy of Georges St. Pierre that happened at UFC 100. After a long, sordid history of postponements, Alves finally fought rival Jon Fitch in August in the rematch that seemingly refused to be made. Not only would Alves lose convincingly once again, he would come in overweight by almost two pounds. However, “The Pitbull” seemed to make a triumphant return at the recent UFC 124 event, as Alves practically mauled John Howard and made it look easy. In a new interview Alves officially put the Welterweight division on notice… but isn’t he getting ahead of himself? ...

Top 5 Opponents for Josh Koscheck
Top 5 Opponents for Josh Koscheck

We’re now over a week removed from UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”, the event that saw long-reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre once again demolish a top-ranked Welterweight. GSP’s latest victim was Josh Koscheck, who lost to GSP for the second time and in front of an incredibly partisan crowd. It’s recently been revealed that Josh Koscheck will be sitting on the sidelines for at least sixty days in order to heal up a broken orbital bone. Many are wondering what the future holds for “Kos”, and I personally hesitated to comment immediately after the event. Now that I’ve taken some time to really think about everything, here’s my list of the Top 5 opponents Josh Koscheck should face in the immediate future. ...

What's Next for the Winners and Losers of UFC 124: "St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2"?

Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another edition of “What’s Next”, where I pull out my trusty crystal globe and take a glimpse at what I think the future holds for the big winners and losers of a major MMA event. UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2” was definitely a major event, and it had plenty of big winners and losers. In the main event, Georges St. Pierre utterly outclassed Josh Koscheck in perhaps one of the best performances GSP has ever given us in his vaunted career. So let’s get right to it with another edition of “What’s Next.” ...

UFC 124 Results: Georges St. Pierre Reigns Supreme in One of the Best MMA/UFC Events of the Year

The final UFC event of the first decade of the new millennium is now in the history books, fans and friends. And what an event it was: from the preliminary card featured live on UFC.com to the Pay-Per-View itself, this was a night loaded with fantastic fights and amazing finishes. One could seemingly not ask for a better way to end the year, as Georges St. Pierre put on yet another classic performance and dominated Josh Koscheck for five straight rounds. Here are the full results as well as some early commentary on UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”. ...

On December 11, the UFC will present its final show for the first decade of the new millennium- UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”. And what a decade it’s been for what is now the world’s largest and most prestigious MMA organization. The UFC and MMA in general saw the rise and fall of countless legends throughout the decade, and as a whole, the fight game evolved to where a master of one technique could be beaten and even outright humbled by a true Mixed Martial Artist. And UFC 124 features one of the most well-rounded MMA fighters ever, defending his championship for the fifth straight time. As is customary for a big card, here are my official picks and predictions for some of the big match-ups of UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”. ...

Commentary: Will the real Thiago Alves please stand up

Thiago Alves has left the MMA world with many questions since his last fight against Jon Fitch, in which he was dominated on the ground.  The primary question is basic – Will we ever see again the intimidating version of Thiago Alves, who dropped the flying knee on Matt Hughes? Can the fierce, bomb throwing, attacking version of Thiago Alves make a return against John Howard on Saturday night in Montreal at UFC 124? ...

Thiago Alves: "On December 11, I want to show all the fans how much I love this still"

If anybody's dedication to the sport should be unquestioned, it's Thiago Alves. Since his inception into the UFC over 4 years ago, "The Pitbull" has done nothing but impress. However, his best days in the welterweight division appeared to be behind him when the American Top Team product dropped back-to-back decisions to current champion Georges St. Pierre and perennial contender Jon Fitch, respectively. After successful brain surgery that removed an abnormality, Thiago appeared to have a new lease on life, however, the Brazilian admitted that between campaigning for his rematch with Fitch and the subsequent surgery that their were times where he doubted his longevity and desire to compete in the world of mixed martial arts anymore. ...

"UFC 124: St. Pierre vs Koscheck II" becomes Official
"UFC 124: St. Pierre vs Koscheck II" becomes Official

Season 12 coaches of "The Ultimate Fighter" Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck have been expected to tangle with one another at UFC 124, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in a welterweight clash. Champion GSP will look to make his fifth successful title defense against foe Koscheck. The two had met previously at UFC 74, where the American Kickboxing Academy product was riding a 5-fight win streak inside the cage coming into the bout, meanwhile, "Rush" was coming off of a disappointing and shocking knockout loss to the unheralded Matt Serra at UFC 69. While competitive in spots, St. Pierre was able to dominate the wrestling department against the former NCAA champion, en route to a unanimous decision victory. ...

Dan Hardy Has Some Strong Words for UFC Stall Artists

It’s one of the biggest debates going in today’s decision-filled world of big fights not living up to their potential: why are wrestlers rewarded for taking their opponents to the ground and doing nothing? Depending on whom you, ask there’s a growing feeling of resentment (some have even entered the land of legitimate hatred) towards decision-heavy wrestlers like Jon Fitch, Gray Maynard, and to some extent, even Georges St. Pierre. In a recent column with This is Nottingham, former #1 Welterweight Contender Dan Hardy went on a lengthy tirade on the subject. Hardy was quick to vehemently criticize wrestlers going to the ground and stalling out the fight. Here’s what he had to say. ...

Thiago Alves will face John Howard at UFC 124
Thiago Alves will face John Howard at UFC 124

Former UFC welterweight title challenger, Thiago Alves doesn't always get what he wants. This past Saturday, fellow UFC welterweight Mike Pierce, who submitted Brazilian prospect Almicar Alves (no relation--Alves' are Brazil's Jones') in the third round at UFC 118 called out the former contender, in helps to levy himself in better standings in the ultra-competitive division. While "The Pitbull" was quick to accept the challenge against Pierce, it looks like it was too little, too late. ...

UFC 117 Payroll Released, Silva and Hughes Top Earners
UFC 117 Payroll Released, Silva and Hughes Top Earners

Now that UFC 117 is now in the books, after one of the promotion's best night of fights in recent memory, where middleweight champion Anderson Silva defended his title against top contender Chael Sonnen, Matt Hughes solidified himself in the 170 pound division, and Junior dos Santos became the next challenger after Cain Velasquez, for the UFC heavyweight title. ...

It's Time for a Change: Thiago Alves Needs to Move to Middleweight

Despite being one of the most dynamic strikers and one of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC’s welterweight division, one question has begun to haunt top-ranked Thiago Alves: his weight. Thiago Alves has always been a large welterweight, but talks concerning his struggle to make weight started in earnest at UFC 84, where Alves weighed in three pounds over the weight limit, even when you include the one-pound-over allowance given to non-title fights. Heading into his recent fight against Jon Fitch, Alves had once again failed to make weight, and as a penalty for his infraction, “The Pitbull” gave up a whopping 20% of his fight purse. The pieces have all unfortunately began falling into place, and now that Alves is just another victim of the patented Jon Fitch Grind, I think the time is right for Alves to move up a weight division. Despite his success in the UFC, these continuously hard weight cuts will only cause further harm to himself and his finances, not to mention the fact that Alves would be a welcome addition to the UFC’s resurgent Middleweight division. ...

What Does a Son of a Fitch Have to Do to Become a Star Around Here?

Despite being a top-ranked UFC welterweight, Jon Fitch always seems to be the one guy that everybody knows about but nobody really pays attention to. One of the best wrestlers in the UFC regardless of weight divisions, Fitch has twelve victories inside of the world’s biggest MMA organization, and has only lost three times in his eight-year, twenty-six fight career. Even with one championship fight under his belt and another on the horizon so long as he can get past his UFC 117 match-up with fellow former contender Thiago Alves, the aura and marketability of Fitch pales in comparison to division kingpin and UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre. As a fan of Fitch, it’s time for a little tough love. So here are three things I think Jon Fitch needs to do in order to become a real UFC star. ...

Thiago Alves, Brain full of Glue, Belly full of Revenge
Thiago Alves, Brain full of Glue, Belly full of Revenge

The welterweight "Pitbull" has been chomping at the bit for this opportunity.

While his initial inception in the UFC was all but stellar, losing in his debut to now lightweight gatekeeper Spencer Fisher, Alves then would reel off two impressive victories over Ansar Chalangov and Derrick Noble, before meeting nemesis Jon Fitch.

June 28, 2006, UFC Ultimate Fight Night 5, Las Vegas, Nev., is the site of where it all went down.

Predictions on Georges St. Pierre Versus Dan Hardy at UFC 111 Run the Gamut - Fighters.com’s February Welterweight Top Ten

Fighters.com's fifth-ranked welterweight “Outlaw” Dan Hardy (23-6) has one chance at beating Fighters.com and UFC Welterweight Champion "Rush" Georges St. Pierre (19-2) at UFC 111 in Newark March 27.  It's a slim chance, despite the hype that is being spun to convince us that the Hardy versus St. Pierre matchup is competitive. ...
