Hello again fans and friends, it’s now time for the second part of my planned six-part series “A Closer Look At strikeforce: ‘Fedor vs. Henderson’”. The first part of the series featured a quick rundown of all the preliminary fights scheduled for this event. Now it’s time to focus on the meat of this event: the five-fight main card that will be televised live on Showtime. First up, we’ve got a battle of fierce Welterweights as Scott Smith takes on Tarec Saffiedine. This is “A Closer Look At Fedor vs. Henderson” Part 2. ...
Former title challenger Evangelista Santos, better known as "Cyborg", will be returning to the cage very soon. After a solid first-round turned in against current welterweight champion Nick Diaz this past January, Evangelista was eventually submitted in the second-round by the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, however surely picked up fans along the way. Now, after his spirited performance, "Cyborg" will be returning to the strikeforce cage this July as the organization prepares for it's first pay-per-view event. He will be looking to climb back up the contender ladder when he will be taking on Team Quest product and top prospect Tarec Saffiedine next. ...
Strikeforce held its “Challengers 13” event last night, and it was an interesting night of fights that, in the “Challengers” tradition, showcased a wide array of new and emerging talent. Although I did find a few bouts underwhelming, looking towards the future, it’s clear that some big stars are on their way. Several of Strikeforce’s young guns notched victories at the event, and in a tradition of my own, here’s the latest edition of “What’s Next for the Winners and Losers”, featuring Strikeforce “Challengers 13”. ...
The thirteenth edition of the “Strikeforce Challengers” series of shows is now a thing of the past, and the event was well worth watching despite falling a bit short of my loftiest expectations. The show featured several Strikeforce young guns, all of which recorded some impressive victories, the highlight of which saw Amanda Nunes outright steal the show. Here are the full results as well as some early commentary on Strikeforce: “Challengers 13”. ...
If there is a fighter with more upside potential in the sport of MMA than Tyron Woodley, let him please step forward. Woodley, an All American wrestler at Missouri has torched through his first seven opponents and now faces his toughest test, against Tarec Saffiedine, headlining the Strikeforce Challengers card in Nashville, TN tonight and broadcast on Showtime. Woodley, was tagged early with the “potential” word not only for winning, but for his diversity of talent on the ground and with his hands. However, how he operates in the cage is what flagged him beyond his early career win-loss record. It is his speed that has opponents flummoxed. Speed and movement beyond strength or belt colors are becoming the tell-tale traits right now for MMA success, and Tyrone Woodley operates with both. Like Frankie Edgar or Dominick Cruz or Cain Velasquez, Woodley is showing the needed tools and showing them with lightening speed. With potential MMA riches on the horizon, Woodley's task now is executing against fighters he should beat, which is far from easy. Saffiedine has won 9 of his last 10 fights and brings a kickboxing pedigree. ...
Three days from now Strikeforce will look to hold its “Challengers 13” event, with a five-fight main card being broadcast live on Showtime. The event features a cast of young guns that many think will soon become Strikeforce standouts: Tyron Woodley, Ovince St. Preux, Daniel Cormier, and more. As is customary, here’s another edition of “Picks and Predictions”, this time featuring Strikeforce “Challengers 13”. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another edition of “Crash Course”, the series of articles designed to give MMA fans a quick rundown on the latest and greatest MMA cards. Today’s “Crash Course” features the thirteenth edition of the “Strikeforce Challengers” series of shows, which are designed to highlight new and promising talent. The general quality of these shows has been improving a lot lately, so this is definitely an event not to be missed. Let’s dive right into another edition of “Crash Course”. ...
Although the shows usually only make waves in certain circles, Strikeforce is set to hold its thirteenth “Challengers” event a little over a week from now, on January 7. Most MMA fans are focused on this week’s double-stuffed weekend, which will see the DREAM/K-1 super-show “DYNAMITE!! 2010” go down on New Year’s Eve, with UFC 125: “Resolution” airing live on Pay-Per-View the very next day. And while I too am pumped for the weekend’s festivities, I’m also very interested for “Strikeforce Challengers 13”. Don’t believe me? Wondering why? Here are five early reasons to be excited for the show. ...
Paul Daley’s future is once again bright. The notorious British bad-boy who was most famously kicked out of the UFC after attacking Josh Koscheck after the bell has now found new life in Strikeforce, thanks to one of the biggest KO’s the heavy-handed “Semtex” has ever managed to deliver. At the recent “Henderson vs. Babalu 2” event, Daley shut down and beat up “Comeback King” Scott Smith before finishing him with a knockout so vicious that it’ll likely remain on Daley’s highlight reel for the rest of his career. In a new interview, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker recently stated that he can’t wait to book Daley again and looks forward to seeing how far “Semtex” can go in Strikeforce. ...
After posting his most impressive career win to date on the main stage of a Strikeforce show last October, Tyron Woodley will be making a quick return to the cage. In his last outing, Woodley defeated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion Andre Galvao via knockout. The win took Tyron less than two-minutes to get the job done, due largely to his trainings with American Top Team, which have since honed the collegiate wrestler into a mixed martial artist. Now, Tyron will return to the Strikeforce Challenger Series once again, serving as the main-event of the evening when he takes on the ultra-impressive Tarec Saffiedine, whom is also undefeated under the Strikeforce banner. ...
