Heading into tomorrow's night of fights, which will be challenged by Strikeforce who will hold a show in St. Louis simultaneously with the UFC, all fighters weighed in for "The Ultimate Fighter" season twelve finale show. All but one fighter, WEC veteran Nick Pace, were successful in making weight on their first attempts. Despite being in the middle of a two-fight losing streak, I personally think the future’s still quite bright for Brandon Vera. I don’t think he’ll ever reach the potential that he could have achieved when he first came into the UFC and people were predicting that he would be the next UFC Heavyweight Champion, but I think he will always have the skills to consistently be “in the mix”. His star status may be on the decline, but I really don’t see any shame in losing to the likes of Randy Couture and Jon Jones. However, even though Jon Jones quickly finished Vera in their “UFC on Versus” fight, Vera recently stated that he still doesn’t buy into the hype. Welcome back fans and friends to another edition of “Great Moments in MMA History”. Today’s moment celebrates what many consider to be the launching point of the UFC into the mainstream, at a point where Mixed Martial Arts was still widely considered “human cockfighting”. The parent company of the UFC, Zuffa, was having trouble turning a profit after acquiring the UFC back in 2001, and all involved were aware of how increasingly sink-or-swim their predicament was becoming. Despite UFC President Dana White’s early hesitations, a plan was put forth, a TV show was pitched, and history was made. It was one of the most refreshing ideas to come to reality television in ages, and helped introduced the nation to the UFC and its varied casts of characters. “American Psycho” Stephan Bonnar (11-4) will fight “Bones” Jon Jones (6-0) in a light heavyweight match-up 31 January at UFC 94 in Las Vegas, he confirmed on Inside Fighting Radio Tuesday. Bonnar described Jones as “pretty strong, explosive, and young,” but said, “I got more experience and I’ll take care of business.” Bonnar will be returning to the Octagon for the first time since he TKO’d “Red” Eric Schafer (10-3-2) in the second round at UFC 77 in October 2007. He has been recovering from surgery after suffering a serious knee injury during training in February.
