With the recent acquisition of Strikeforce, the Zuffa company is looking to trim the fat off their rosters.

Since the ufc has purchased the San Jose based promotion, as well as merging with their sister organization in the WEC, their roster has become big and plenty.

Recently, the UFC has since let go of several fighters, however most notably were middleweights Chris Camozzi and Rob Kimmons among those fighters.

Camozzi was recently in action at UFC 127, which took place at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia in February, however both fighters were on the losing ends of their respective bouts.

Chris met with former house mate in Kyle Noke, where originally both men made their UFC inceptions piggy backing off of the eleventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter”. Noke was able to submit Camozzi early in the first-round, handing Chris his first loss in his three trips inside the octagon.

Kimmons, meanwhile met with Korean prospect Dong Yi Yang, at “UFC on Versus 3″ which took place earlier this month on the Versus network. Kimmons was dominated from start to finish before Yang was able to close out the show a TKO late in the second-round. The loss ended a seven-fight stint for Kimmons inside the octagon where the “Rosedale Reaper” went 3-4 in competition.

MMAJunkie.com was able to confirm the release of Kimmons with sources close to the fighter, meanwhile Camozzi chose to go more public with his release, releasing the news on his official website.

“According to the UFC the issue is less about my performance (they offered to give me a recommendation) and more to do with an overloaded roster and not enough fights for us under contract”, said Camozzi.

“This has nothing to do with the recent merger. My management company will be targeting shows like Strikeforce and MFC after we get a win.”

So, MMA peeps, what do you think of the news? Should these fighters been released based on their track records? Kimmons, unarguably, but Camozzi–who was on a two-fight win streak before the loss to Noke? Sound off in the comment section below.

The Germany card is finally coming together.

While originally a rumored bout pitting former Pride Grand Prix Champion: Mirko Cro Cop against former champion and UFC Hall of Famer: Randy Couture was supposed to headline the UFC’s second trip to Germany, their first came last year with UFC 99: headlined by fellow former champions Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva.

The card now garners some big names, including the new headliner of Vitor Belfort against Yushin Okami in what is potentially billed as a number one contender’s bout for the UFC middleweight title, held by kingpin Anderson Silva.

In addition to Okami-Belfort, “The Ultimate Fighter” veteran Kyle Noke is set to return.

The news comes first from the MMAWeekly.com news crew, who confirmed the validity of the bout with sources close to the match up.

Noke appeared on the eleventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter”, which pitted coaches and rivals Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell against one another. Noke found himself on the longtime light heavyweight champion, “The Iceman’s” team, where he was picked as an early favorite to lay claim as the TUF champion. Noke was victorious in the preliminary round, when he picked up an impressive submission win over Clayton McKinney, but eventually lost out to season finalist Kris McCray by unanimous decision, after failing to defend Kris’ relentless take down attempts.

Noke was invited back for the season finale, and bested fellow teammate on the show Josh Bryant, picking up a TKO victory in the second round last June in Las Vegas, and his first win under the UFC banner.

Kyle will look to go 2-0 inside the cage when he meets veteran Rob Kimmons.

“The Rosedale Reaper”, 29, opened up his UFC career in June of 2008 with a submission win over Rob Yundt, and while he was riding a three-fight win streak into the bout, he has been wildly inconsistent since. Since his debut, Kimmons has traded a win for a loss over his next three bouts (four including the Yundt fight), going 2-2 inside the octagon with losses to standouts Jorge Rivera and Dan Miller. Kimmons will try to go for his first two-fight win streak inside the UFC when he meets Noke.

The bout, though unmentioned, will likely serve duties on the preliminary portion come fight night. UFC 122 is expected to take place in Oberhausen, Germany, at the Konig Pilsner Arena on November 13.

So, my MMA peeps, who do you have taking this middleweight match up? It’s interesting to note that Kimmons, the father of three, was expected to drop to the welterweight division before his last bout with Steve Steinbeiss, and will instead decide to take on Noke–who is all of 185-pounds and is a former body guard in his native Australia. Let your opinions on the match up known below.

A bout originally scheduled for UFC 118 this Saturday, has been pushed off till November, for the UFC’s second trip to Germany, and it’s first since it’s inception last year for UFC 99, which was headlined by former champions Wanderlei Silva and Rich Franklin.

Said bout, a middleweight affair against Jorge Rivera against fellow banger Alessio Sakara has stayed alive. The bout will mark a true push for each competitor, as one another will look for contenders’ status in a crowded 185-pound division, dominated by Anderson Silva–though Chael Sonnen might argue the point.

UFC 118 takes place in Boston, Mass., Rivera’s hometown. The 185-pound veteran is based out of Team Sityodtong, under the tutelage of Kru Mark Dellagrotte.

Rivera has seen a resurgence in his lengthy and storied career, and for the first time has been able to string together a 3-fight win streak inside the octagon. After a split-decision victory over Nissen Osterneck, “The Conquistador” was able to put together two back-to-back TKO victories over the likes of Rob Kimmons and fellow “The Ultimate Fighter” veteran Nate Quarry, respectively.

Sakara too, has had the benefit of posting three in a row as well, starting with a head kick, knockout victory over Joe Vedepo, Alessio put together quality wins beginning with a split decision win over former 185-pound title challenger Thales Leites, and then the grizzly, emaciated, veteran–James Irvin, by first round TKO.

Both Rivera and Alessio are on their best standings since their respective inceptions into the UFC, and will now vie for a spot towards contender status within the UFC, which is slowly thinning since Anderson Silva has run through most top-flight competition in the weight class.

With that said, who do you think holds the key to victory in this match up? Who would you like to see the winner challenge next? And who do you think holds the best shot at defeating the 185-pound kingpin that is “The Spider”?

While Gomi may have picked up his biggest win in recent memory, he also picked up the biggest pay-day of the “ufc Live on Versus 2″ card, held on August 1, last Sunday, in San Diego, Cali.

After knocking out Tyson Griffin in just over a minute in the first round of their lightweight affair, Gomi not only picked up an impressive win over a perennial contender, he picked up the “Knockout of the Night”, which added additional pleasure to his already impressive portfolio, as the former Pride Lightweight champion.

Here are the fighter payouts, initially reported by MMAJunkie.com, through the California State Athletic Commission. Gomi earned the event high.

The following is in bout order.

The total list of paydays include:

Jon Jones: $46,000 ($23,000 win bonus)
def. Vladimir Matyushenko: $31,000

Charles Oliveira: $12,000 ($6,000 win bonus)
def. Darren Elkins: $8000

Rob Kimmons: $18,000 ($9,000 win bonus)

http://mmajunkie.com/news/20176/ufc-on-versus-2-fighter-salaries-takanori-gomi-earns-event-high-80k-payday.mma

Do any of the figures above shock you, or are they as expected? I personally though, Jon Jones would be receiving a bigger pay day by now, since Brandon Vera was at one point making a flat rate of $100,000, after 3 fights into his UFC career, though at the time, Vera can be likened to the phenom that is Jones.

Fighters.com and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion “Dragon” Lyoto Machida (15-0) weighed in two-and-a-half pounds under the 205-pound light heavyweight limit Friday, a day before he’ll defend his titles from sixth-ranked “Shogun” Mauricio Rua (18-3) at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles Saturday.

Rua weighed in at 204.5 pounds.

Machida has weighed in to a UFC light heavyweight fight as low as 199-pounds and is undefeated, however he has been more likely to win by stoppage when weighing 204 pounds or more the day before a fight indicating his weight does affect his performance. Machida might expect a stand-up war versus the crisp striker Rua and therefore want to be lighter on his feet.

On the flips side of the coin, welterweight prospect “Rumble” Anthony Johnson (7-2) weighed 176 pounds, five pounds over the welterweight limit, for his fight versus eighth-ranked “Zenko” Yoshiyuki Yoshida (10-2), who weighed in at the limit. The two agreed to fight regardless of Johnson’s apparent disregard for the rules and disrespect for Yoshida.

Lightweights “Dentis” Josh Neer (25-8-1) and Gleison Tibau (16-5) both missed weight in their matchup. Neer weight 156.5 pounds and Tibau weighe 157 pounds.

The rest of the card made weight:

Cain Velasquez (6-0) 238 pounds v Ben Rothwell (26-6) 265 pounds
“Daddy” Joe Stevenson (30-9 155.5 pounds v “King” Spencer Fisher (23-4) 155 pounds
“Darth” Ryan Bader (7-0) 205 pounds v “Red” Eric Schafer (12-4-2) 205.5 pounds

Friday the UFC confirmed that the contender matchup between Fighters.com’s seventh-ranked middleweight and former WEC champ Chael Sonnen (22-10-1) and UFC contender “Thunder” Yushin Okami (23-4) is not scheduled for the pay per view broadcast of UFC 104 in Los Angeles October 24.

Slotted instead are the main event between Fighters.com and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion “Dragon” Lyoto Machida (15-0) and sixth-ranked “Shogun” Mauricio Rua (18-3) and co-main event between heavyweights Cain Velasquez (6-0) and “Big” Ben Rothwell (26-6) as well as the following matchups:

Gleison Tibau (16-5) v “Dentist” Josh Neer (25-8-1)
“Daddy” Joe Stevenson (30-9) v “King” Spencer Fisher (23-4)

The Sonnen/Okami matchup could make the PPV broadcast if those fights run short and the Sonnen/Okami fight is both exciting and fits into the remaining time.

Okami is 7-1 in the Octagon and holds the distinction of being the only UFC fighter to hold a win over Fighters.com and UFC Middleweight Champion “Spider” Anderson Silva (25-4), albeit by disqualification at Rumble on the Rock 8 in Honolulu in 2006. Okami’s only loss in the UFC was a tight UD to Fighters.com’s ninth-ranked middleweight “Ace” Rich Franklin (26-5) at UFC 72 in Belfast in June 2007.

Slated for the undercard with Sonnen v Okami is:

Antoni Hardonk (8-5) v “HD” Pat Barry (2-2)

Three TUF champions highlighted the action in Las Vegas Saturday night: the original, the past, and the future.

The future shines brilliantly for The Ultimate Fighter’s newest blast into the mainstream consciousness, Amir Sadollah (1-0).

In his professional debut, Sadollah tapped “Doberman” CB Dollaway (6-1) in an armbar at 3:02 of round one to win the seventh season of the popular SpikeTV reality show contest.

“Nightmare” Diego Sanchez (19-2), one of the two original Ultimate Fighters, looked physically fitter than ever in his third-round TKO of American Top Team’s Luigi Fioravanti (12-4) at 4:07.

After back-to-back “embarrasing” losses, “Spyder” Kendall Grove (9-5), TUF 3 champion, recaptured past glory in a three-round split decision over former UFC titlist Evan Tanner (32-8).

The likeable young TUF walk-on from Virginia, Sadollah, versus the cocky All-American favorite, Dollaway, was a rematch of an exhibition fight fought on the final episode of last season’s The Ultimate Fighter.

Saturday’s finish was almost a replay of that fight’s end.

But, unlike the first fight, Dollaway made haste taking the samboist to his back and pounding him, opening a shallow cut on Sadollah’s forehead.

Sadollah flailed for position, eventually sucking up the “Doberman’s” left paw and swinging his legs over Dollaway’s head to secure the armbar.

Dollaway stood and remained standing as Sadollah worked the technique.

Finally, Dollaway ended the fight with a single tap causing referee Herb Dean to step in.

Sadollah leapt to his feet and threw his arms in the air.

Dollaway threw his hands out to his sides, complaining about the stoppage; but, replays clearly showed Dollaway tapping.

And, as “Kimbo Slice” Kevin Ferguson (3-0) famously said, Dollaway exhibited in his immature and ridiculous post-fight protest: “Tapping is for bitches.”

“Nightmare” Sanchez showed off a leaner physique and tighter striking game versus a pudgy and lethargic Fioravanti.

In his southpaw stance, Sanchez stalked with his right lead extended and left fist cocked, both of which he used to tag Fiorivanti, who was hesitant to engage on his feet or on the mat.

When Sanchez was able to down Fioravanti, “Nightmare’s” trademark G’n'P dominated.

But, it was Sanchez’s refurbed striking game, highlighted by a roundhouse kick, that won the fight.

In the third round, Sanchez snapped a left kick to Fioravanti’s head, sending Fioravanti backpedaling. Sanchez followed with a flying knee flush to Fioravanti’s jaw before pounding out the stoppage with his fists.

It was do or die for both Grove and Tanner in the main event, both fighters coming off of knockout losses and at career lows.

However, 6’6″ Grove was just too physical for the former champion, Tanner.

At range, Grove launched long rights that split Tanner’s guard.

But, most of the fight was fought in the clinch, with Tanner, sporting a full beard, resembling a homeless mugger assaulting the Hawaiian for change.

Grove laid on Tanner, wearing Tanner down, while Grove split open Tanner’s head with elbows and peppered Tanner’s body with knees.

The judges ruled it a split decision “W” for Grove by scores of 30-26 twice for Grove and 29-28 once for Tanner; but, Al Lefkowitz, who scored the fight for Tanner, couldn’t have even been in the arena.

Fighters.com scored it 30-27 for Grove.

On the undercard, “McLovin” Dustin Hazelett (11-4) tapped “People’s Champion” Josh Burkman (9-6) in an armbar at 4:46 of round two.

Hazelett won “Submission of the Night”.

Lightweight brawler “King” Spencer Fisher (21-4) ground out a unanimous decision over fellow Iowan Jeremy Stephens (13-3).

TUF 7 contestant Matt Riddle (1-0) won his pro debut with a unanimous decision over Dante Rivera (10-3).

Middleweight Andrew McFedries (7-3) overwhelmed “Beastman” Marvin Eastman (15-8-1) from the bell to score a quick TKO at 1:08 of round one.

In a rematch from 2006, TUF 7 contestant Matt Brown (7-6) TKO’d TUF 6 “No Regard” Matt Arroyo (3-2) at 3:40 of round two.

Veteran “Boogieman” Dean Lister (11-5) submitted über-veteran “Gumby” Jeremy Horn (79-18-5) in a first-round guillotine choke at 3:52.

Similarly, Rob Kimmons (21-3) tapped Rob Yundt (6-2) in a first-round guillotine choke at 3:58.
