"Rampage" says he'd prefer to face Evans over Hamilll
"Rampage" says he'd prefer to face Evans over Hamilll

As the news has recently come in about a recent shuffle for UFC 130, already people have been weighing their opinions on the proposed match-up pitting Quinton Jackson against Matt Hamill. "Rampage", a former UFC light heavyweight champion, was originally scheduled to face off against Brazilian slugger Thiago Silva before he came under scrutiny with recent allegations of a failed drug test post-UFC 125 last January. Since that time, a rumor had been floating around that rival Rashad Evans would instead take Silva's place, however multiple sources have confirmed that Hamill, not Evans, will be meeting with Jackson come this May, though if you'd ask Quinton, he'd much rather face off against the Greg Jackson product. ...

Thiago Silva Could Be Out, "Rampage" Jackson vs. Rashad Evans 2 Possible

Although several facts still need to be worked out, already there’s a major storm brewing across the internet focusing on an important development that could drastically affect the upcoming bout between ufc stars Quinton Jackson and Thiago Silva. Nothing is for certain as of this article’s publication, but several sites are reporting that the fight may be off, and that Rashad Evans may be stepping in to replace Thiago and take on “Rampage” Jackson for the second time. Here are all the current details on this still-developing story. ...

Up And Down And All Around: Why Rashad Evans Should Stay At Light Heavyweight

Before we get started, I’d just like to say that I don’t say any of the following out of spite. I’m a fan of Rashad Evans, and I’ve come to his defense more than once in his recent period of hiatus, I even outright called for Evans to destroy Mauricio Rua on several occasions. But now he’s on the sidelines, and apparently, he and his camp are toying with the notion of either moving down or up in weight if teammate Jon Jones wins the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. I don’t agree with this at all, and I think Evans’ home should be at Light Heavyweight even if "Bones" becomes champion. Here’s why. ...

Rashad Evans will move weight-classes if Jones beats Rua
Rashad Evans will move weight-classes if Jones beats Rua

It was recently announced last Saturday that Jon Jones will now be facing Mauricio "Shogun" Rua for the light heavyweight title come this March. Jones earned the shot at the championship strap with a second-round submission victory over then-undefeated fighter Ryan Bader, the season eight winner of "The Ultimate Fighter". Ultimately, though, the opportunity came when teammate Rashad Evans had to bow out of the title fight with Rua when he suffered a knee injury in preparation for the bout. Now, Evans' camp is indicating that should Jones defeat the Brazilian next month, Rashad is willing to either move up or down in weight class. ...

Evans' loss is now Jones' gain; opens up as favorite over UFC champion "Shogun" in March title bout

There are few moments in mixed martial arts history that have been embedded in my mind's "eye". First, there's the four-second knockout that the legendary "Kid" Yamamoto laid upon a young Kazuyuki Miyata, which took a flying knee and all of four seconds to complete. Next, there's Chuck Liddell retirement announcement during the pre-fight presser for UFC 125 last December--it's hard to believe that just a couple of years ago, the UFC Hall of Famer was arguably the greatest light heavyweight fighter in the world. Then, there was an exuberant Jon Jones realizing his life's work when UFC commentator stepped into the cage to announce "Bones" as the next challenger to the light heavyweight title. Elated, Jones fell to knees in disbelief and the appreciation of such an opportunity was painted on his face. ...

UFC President Dana White Criticizes Rashad Evans For Sitting On The Sidelines And Waiting For "Shogun"

Even though it’s still over a month away, many MMA fans and insiders are already talking about the main event of UFC 128, aptly named “Shogun vs. Evans”. Mauricio Rua, PRIDE FC legend and current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, makes the first defense of his belt since beating Lyoto Machida in dramatic fashion and then sitting on the sidelines for some time with an injury. Much has been made of “Sugar” Rashad Evans opting to sit on the sidelines as well, in order to preserve his spot as the top contender. Recently, Dana White had an interesting take on the situation. Here are all the details. ...

"UFC 128: Shogun vs. Evans" complete with 12 bouts
"UFC 128: Shogun vs. Evans" complete with 12 bouts

As UFC 128 looms closer, the final additions to the pay-per-view event have been announced and in total, the card will feature a staggering 12-card lineup, with a preliminary card that could surely anchor most Spike TV telecasts all on it's own. The headliner will pit former PRIDE star turned UFC light heavyweight champion in Mauricio "Shogun" Rua as he defends his title for the first time when he takes on former titleholder Rashad Evans. The event takes place at on March 19 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. ...

New UFC 128 Developments: More Fights Made Official As A Stellar Card Comes Together

The ufc looks to continue its march through 2011 on the same high note it began the year with, and one of the best indicators of that is the continually-developing UFC 128 event. Currently scheduled for March 19, the event is set to be headlined by the returning Mauricio Rua, who looks to defend his newly-won UFC Light Heavyweight Championship for the first time. Rua’s opponent is set to be former Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans. Here’s the latest on the card. ...

"UFC 128: Shogun vs. Evans" becomes official; Faber vs. Wineland also featured for New Jersey event

Although it has been rumored for some time now, we can all take solace in that a light heavyweight title fight is coming to the east coast. Reigning and soon-to-be defending UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua will be pitted against former title holder Rashad Evans in the main event of UFC 128, which takes place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on March 19. ...

"Sugar" Just Keeps Dishing It Out: New Rashad Evans Interview Highlights Angry Former Champion

Say what you will about Rashad Evans, but you can’t say that he’s unable to strike while the iron is hot. After virtually vanishing from the MMA landscape in recent months, Evans burst back onto the scene with a highly controversial ESPN interview where he openly criticized the UFC for making him wait so long to challenge for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Evans later clarified his statements, but recently he's returned to taking shots at his employer. Here are the highlights. ...

Rashad Evans dreams of "Rampage"...knocking out Machida at UFC 123

ufc 123 comes our way this weekend. The event takes place in the Detroit suburbs in Michigan, at the Palace of Auburn Hills, and will feature one of the best lineups of the year. In the main event of the evening, former UFC light heavyweight champions Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida will battle it out for top contender billing in one the busiest divisions inside the promotion. While many loyal fans are pulling for the charismatic "Rampage" to prove successful in this tough match up, one more supporter has voiced his opinion. Someone whom Jackson is all too familiar with. ...

UFC 128 going to Abu Dhabi; "Shogun" vs Evans possible for the main-event

A report has surfaced, which has now raised some interesting questions. ufc 128 is expected to go down this March for round-two, in Abu Dhabi. The venue has not been pin pointed as of yet, however the UFC should return to A.D on March 19th, since it's original inception in the organization's new market which came earlier this year at UFC 112, last April. ...

Former Champ Rashad Evans Clears the Air Regarding Controversial ESPN Interview

Former ufc Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans is no stranger to controversy. We’re talking about a man that heinously knocked out Chuck Liddell, was heinously knocked out by Lyoto Machida, had an incredibly bitter rivalry with Quinton Jackson, and has been criticized recently for a return to his former “lay and pray” style. Rashad Evans recently found himself in the middle of another media storm when he openly criticized the UFC in a recent interview with ESPN. Evans recently took the time to respond to the controversy and clear the air. ...

A Disgruntled Rashad Evans Lashes Out at the UFC

Rashad Evans is no stranger to controversy. In fact, the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion was recently involved in a prolonged rivalry, one of the bitterest rivalries in UFC history, with fellow former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Jackson. Rashad’s victory over “Rampage” at UFC 114 in May solidified him as the #1 contender to the Light Heavyweight Championship, and “Sugar” has been sitting on the sidelines ever since, waiting for current champion Mauricio Rua to heal up from knee surgery. And if a new interview is any indication, it appears that Evans is growing very tired of waiting. ...

New Rampage Jackson Interview: He's Not Psychic and Doesn't Believe in "MMA Math"

He’s one of the most controversial and charismatic stars in the UFC, and perhaps one of the most notorious fighters in the history of Mixed Martial Arts. There truly is only one Quinton Jackson. “Rampage” has become famous (and infamous) for his incredibly candid interviews: he’s slapped interviewers, stolen their microphones, barked at them, and even dry-humped one hapless female reporter. In a new interview with MMA Heat, Rampage Jackson once again earned himself a bit of controversy when discussing his thoughts on his upcoming bout with Lyoto Machida. ...

Dana White Believes That Not Fighting a Teammate is Code for "I'm Afraid He'll Beat Me"

Dana White has spoken his mind yet again, and given MMA fans a few new bits of wisdom to chew on and think about. Today’s subject? The continuing debate on whether or not teammates should fight each other. Just yesterday I came out strongly against teammates not fighting each other, and it appears that Dana White and I have a lot in common when it comes to why teammates not fighting each other is stupid. Here are the highlights from an interview Dana White did with Jim Rome, with transcriptions courtesy of MMA Weekly. ...

Jon Jones Won't Fight Rashad Evans... Not Fighting Your Teammates is Stupid

Should teammates fight each other? It’s a topic that only pops up ever so often, but when it does, it usually ignites a pretty big debate.  Many famous MMA stars have come out against the idea, in particular, Jon Fitch and Keith Jardine have stated several times that they will never fight their teammates. Other fighters seem a bit more willing to say “never say never”. However, you can add another big name to the list of fighters who aren’t only saying “never”, but “never ever not in a million years.” And that man just so happens to be one of the brightest prospects the ufc has ever seen. Here are all the details. ...

UFC 127..wow: Rich Franklin vs Forrest Griffin
UFC 127..wow: Rich Franklin vs Forrest Griffin

As the new year looms closer and closer, the Super Bowl weekend card looks to be a star studded affair. Previously mentioned, the main event of the evening is looking like it will be a battle between Brazilians when Vitor Belfort challenges former teammate Anderson Silva for the ufc middleweight title. Also on the card, a battle between light heavyweights Ryan Bader and Jon Jones will battle it out for top contenders status in a stacked 205-pound division. Seemingly a shoe in for co-main event honors, the bout was trumped when a recent news breaker was published, which will garner a lot of attention come fight time. ...

Rampage Jackson Takes No Prisoners: According to Him, Lyoto Machida is Running Scared and Will Get KO'd

Now that the ufc 123 main event bout pitting former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Jackson has been made official, the war of words between the two talented Mixed Martial Artists has begun to escalate. I wrote a while back about Machida’s early thoughts on “Rampage”, and recently, Jackson had some choice words of his own for the man he once referred to as “the Cheetah”. In typical Rampage Jackson fashion, Quinton brought out his best smack-talk for his upcoming opponent. ...

Thiago Silva Looking Forward to Brawling with Brandon Vera

Once touted as a future Light Heavyweight champion and one of the deadliest strikers in his division, 14-2 Thiago Silva is walking a path few ever envisioned he would be stepping foot on when he burst onto the ufc with four straight wins: the comeback trail. Silva is 1-2 in his last three fights, suffering a very humbling KO loss to Lyoto Machida, rebounding with an epic KO win over Keith Jardine, and then facing another setback when Rashad Evans beat him via Unanimous Decision in the main event of one of the most injury-plagued UFC cards in history. Fighters.com recently reported that Thiago Silva’s next opponent will more than likely be Brandon Vera, and recently, Silva spoke on both his opponent and the back injury that affected his performance against Evans. ...

Top 5 (Obvious Examples Excluded) Strikeforce vs. UFC Fights

No matter what your favorite promotion is, it’s fun to play “armchair booker” once in a while and try to envision a fantasy card that brings all of your favorite fighters from competing promotions under one roof to truly determine who the best in the world is. The UFC did just that, for the most part, when they bought out the legendary PRIDE FC promotion in 2007. But with the arrival and rise of the Strikeforce promotion, fans are once again creating fantasy match-ups. To differentiate myself, today’s list will feature five matches between Strikeforce and the UFC that specifically does not include any of the obvious choices, like Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brock Lesnar or Cung Le vs. Anderson Silva. While they're fun debates to have, they've been discussed for quite a while now. With this list, I’m going for a little something different. Some picks may surprise you, but here are my top five (obvious examples excluded) Strikeforce vs. UFC fights. ...

Rua versus Evans on hold till 2011, Spring or Summer
Rua versus Evans on hold till 2011, Spring or Summer

The fight everyone wants to see, will be on the back burner until 2011, apparently. UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has undergone successful knee surgery this past June, and is still in recovery mode. According to UFC President Dana White in a recent interview with Sportscenter revealed that he intends on making Rua's return in the Spring or early Summer of next year. ...

Diego Sanchez Returning to his Roots, with Greg Jackson
Diego Sanchez Returning to his Roots, with Greg Jackson

Former UFC lightweight title challenger Diego Sanchez is making changes. After his losses to former champion BJ Penn at lightweight, and then budding welterweight star John Hathaway, Diego will try his hand once again at the 170-pound division at UFC 121 against Paulo Thiago. Sanchez largely made his name after winnings "The Ultimate Fighter" season one as a middleweight, before dropping down to the welterweight division in dominating fashion. After defeating fellow finalist Kenny Florian at the TUF finale, Diego would make a name for himself in victories over Karo Parisyan, Nick Diaz, and Joe Riggs. While Diego can attribute a large amount of his success to his hard work and dedication, but in some respects a little of that success also needs to be addressed to the man, the myth, the legend--Greg Jackson. ...

Brandon Vera Still Doubts Jon Jones, but You Can Call Me a Believer

Despite being in the middle of a two-fight losing streak, I personally think the future’s still quite bright for Brandon Vera. I don’t think he’ll ever reach the potential that he could have achieved when he first came into the UFC and people were predicting that he would be the next UFC Heavyweight Champion, but I think he will always have the skills to consistently be “in the mix”. His star status may be on the decline, but I really don’t see any shame in losing to the likes of Randy Couture and Jon Jones. However, even though Jon Jones quickly finished Vera in their “UFC on Versus” fight, Vera recently stated that he still doesn’t buy into the hype. Personally, I’m never again going to bet against Jon Jones. ...

Jon Jones wants no freebies--wants the Best
Jon Jones wants no freebies--wants the Best

While Jon Jones has faced the toughest opposition of his career most recently, he's made it look easy and efficient. Even in a losing effort (albeit a disqualification) to TUF veteran Matt Hamill, Jones looked every bit as dominant as he has in wins over perennial contender's Brand Vera and most recently, Vladimir Matyushenko. It's hard to say what will be next for the 205-pound wrestling stud, but Jones in the mean time is enjoying his most recent triumph none the less, which now moves him to 11-1 overall, and marks his fifth win, inside the octagon. ...
