It’s that time once again, fans and friends. Another major MMA event has come and gone, and it’s time for my unofficial “Best Performance of the Night” award. For Strikeforce’s “Challengers 17” event, the competition for “BPOTN” was pretty stiff. You had Sarah Kaufman beating a very game Liz Carmouche in addition to Bobby Voelker dramatically stopping Roger Bowling. But one man gave a performance so dominant you had to wonder not only what his opponent was thinkin stepping into the cage against him, but also why the promotion insists on continuing to put the man on “Challengers” cards. I have no problem admitting that I felt quite deflated when it was announced that Mike Kyle had to pull out of his upcoming bout with Gegard Mousasi due to an injury. Kyle won me over as a fan back when he nearly stopped Antonio Silva and displayed quite a lot of heart and skill while doing so. But now Mousasi finds himself in much the same situation as BJ Penn: sitting on the sidelines and waiting for a new opponent. And in much the same vein, I’m going to throw my hat into the mix and give a list of the five fighters I think Gegard Mousasi should fight. Let’s dive right in. ...

Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion "King Mo" will be returning to the cage in the immediate future. In fact, for Lawal, it will be a chance for Muhammed to gain back some of the spotlight that was taken from him in August of last year, when former champ Rafael Cavalcante was able to dethrone the wrestling powerhouse on third-round strikes in Houston, Texas. Lawal will be returning to familiar territory when he comes back this June after an extended layoff due to a knee injury, when he meets with either Roger Gracie or Ovince St. Preux, two of Strikeforce's top light heavyweight stars. Muhammed will make his return in Dallas, Texas of all places. ...

Well-financed, upstart MMA organizations tend to chase the UFC by trying to lure established stars with wads of money.  Ask EliteXC, who had more problems than just that, and Affliction.  They'll both tell you that method doesn't work.  Thankfully, Strikeforce has been different since day one.  CEO Scott Coker and the gang started off as a San Jose regional show, mostly bringing in names from that area.  Then, of course, came the Showtime and CBS deals, which led to some of that big name fighter luring- Fedor Emelianenko, anyone?  But after watching Friday night's Strikeforce Challengers 13 event, it became obvious that they have some pretty impressive up and coming talent.  Tyron Woodley, Daniel Cormier, Ovince St. Preux, and Amanda Nunes, for example.   A few years from now, if Strikeforce is able to keep most of these fighters, watch out; ...

Although the shows usually only make waves in certain circles, Strikeforce is set to hold its thirteenth “Challengers” event a little over a week from now, on January 7. Most MMA fans are focused on this week’s double-stuffed weekend, which will see the DREAM/K-1 super-show “DYNAMITE!! 2010” go down on New Year’s Eve, with UFC 125: “Resolution” airing live on Pay-Per-View the very next day. And while I too am pumped for the weekend’s festivities, I’m also very interested for “Strikeforce Challengers 13”. Don’t believe me? Wondering why? Today, all but one of the competitors competing under the Strikeforce banner for tomorrow's event, made the required weight limit for their respective bouts. Headliner's Dan Henderson and Renato Sobral were green lighted for the event when the two light heavyweights came in under the required 205-pound limit. Strikeforce debutant Paul Daley successfully made the 170-pound limit, which in the past he has notoriously struggled with weighty issues however came in at 169 pounds for the welterweight contest. And Scott Smith, who spent nearly his entire career as a middleweight, easily made the transition to the welterweight class when he came in at 170-pounds on the nose. ...

A last minute addition to this Saturday's Strikeforce event, Benji Radach will return to the cage when he takes on Ovince St. Preux in a light-heavyweight match up. UFC veteran Radach will return to action for the first time since a knockout loss to Scott Smith in April of 2009. He has stayed out of action for better part of 2010 due to mounting injuries, his last being a case of staph which infected his chest shortly after Benji had undergone surgery on a torn pectoral muscle. Now, fighting as a light heavyweight for the first time in his career, Radach will return to action on just six-days notice against budding prospect, St. Preux. ...

Ovince St. Preux could be on the fast track to a title shot. Antwain Britt, a former contender in the Strikeforce light heavyweight class and a contestant on season eight of "The Ultimate Fighter" was dominated early by Haitian fighter. "Juggernaut" was able to storm back in the final round, however St. Preux's effectiveness in the early goings with his obvious edge in the striking as well as ground departments had him ahead early on the score cards and it was enough for him to walk away with the unanimous decision victory. It marks the first time that Ovince has gone the distance in any of his career wins, which are mostly highlighted by either knockout's or submissions. ...
