In a battle of budding welterweight prospects in Strikeforce, it was Nate Moore, who was coming off of a knockout loss of his own, that was able to score the equally impressive KO win when he defeated veteran Nathan Coy during the preliminary portion for tonight’s night of fights.

“Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg” is currently taking place in the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, where Moore was able to close out the last preliminary bout on the card with a real bang.

Nathan Coy was highly touted coming into his welterweight affair. In fact, he’s the only man to date who “almost” defeated the unblemished rising star Tyron Woodley in his last outing in May of last year. Coy battled the American Top Team product to a split-decision, and while he was on the losing end of things, his star was visible nonetheless.

So if you were to tell me that Nate Moore, who was systematically knocked out by Tarec Saffiedine in his last bout, would score a KO of his own, I would have said you’re crazy. Well wouldn’t I look like a fool right about now.

After Coy claimed the first frame of the 170-pound contest with effective ground control, taking Moore’s back in the early goings of the fight. Over and over, Coy was able to slam the Team Quest product once he created enough distance to do so.

Feeling the way the bout was unfolding, Moore came back to the second round with a vengeance, unleashing a clean right-hook left-hook combo that left Coy immediately fetal on the ground. The referee halted the bout in just 25-seconds of the second-round.

With the victory, Moore has now successfully bounced back from his own KO loss in impressive fashion, proving that his mental game is up to par with his obvious talent. He has now won three of his last four bouts.

So, MMA peeps, those of you who caught the knockout victory on the aired-prelims special on Sherdog.com–what did you think of the bout? Surprised? Sound off in the comment section below.

The San Jose based promotion, Strikeforce, has recently put out a press release, declaring the full fight card, including a finalized preliminary card, for the August 21st show, which will be in Houston, Texas.

The card features a light heavyweight title fight against newly crowned champion “King Mo” Lawal against top contender Rafael “Feijao”, out of Team Blackhouse, who trains alongside the likes of the Nogueria brothers, Anderson Silva, and Junior dos Santos.

The preliminary card, which can easily headline any challenger series with it’s depth, will go as such.

Strikeforce: Houston Preliminary Bouts:

Daniel Cormier vs Jason Riley
Andre Galvao vs Nate Moore
Vinicius Magalhaes vs Rocky Long
Adam Schindler vs Kier Gooch
Jose Santibanez vs Reynaldo Trujillo
Chad Robichaux vs Humberto Deleon
Chad Cook vs Arteneus Young

Some notables there include Daniel Cormier, who has been anything short of impressive since his inception into the sport. He’s recently picked up two new heavyweight titles in his last two outings outside of the promotion, with a TKO win over seas against Lucas Brown in Australia, and then last Saturday at King of the Cage against former heavyweight champion Tony Johnson. Both men were undefeated before they tangled with the former wrestling olympian and American Kickboxing Academy standout.

Cormier will be in action against Jason Riley, who some might remember was on the losing side of things against former UFC champion Tim Sylvia in September of last year. He has since split his last two contests, with a TKO win over Joel Wyatt, and a loss to Devin Cole in his most recent performance.

Vinicius Magalhaes, though, should not be confused with season 8 competitor of “The Ultimate Fighter”–not the same guy.

Andre Galvao, a DREAM veteran who submitted long time veteran John Alessio in his debut with the Japan-based promotion last year, will look for his second win under the Strikeforce banner. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion also trains with the aforementioned Blackhouse team.

The card is set for the Toyota Center, which at full capacity, can hold up to 19,000 at a time.

Middleweight Nate Moore (6-1) forced Louis Taylor (3-1) to tap on strikes in the second round at Strikeforce in Chicago Friday night.

Round one was a display of dirty boxing and warnings to Taylor by the referee for grabbing his opponent’s shorts. In most minds, Moore edged Taylor on the scorecards at round’s end.

The second round opened with more of the same performance from Moore as the referee temporarily stopped the bout to take a point away from Taylor for grabbing the shorts of his opponent. As the fight resumed, Moore turned on the heat forcing Taylor to tap out at the 3:24 mark of round two due to strikes.
