The two men who gave two of the best performances of the recent and amazing “ufc on Versus 4” card have tentatively been scheduled to step inside the cage with one another. In one corner will be Matt Mitrione, the fast-rising Heavyweight that is a former “Ultimate Fighter” member and has been taking the lower-tier Heavyweight division by storm. In the other will be Cheick Kongo, the veteran Heavyweight journeyman that just gave us one of the greatest comebacks in MMA history. Here are all the details. ...
It’s that time once again, fans and friends. Another major MMA event has come and gone, and it’s time for my unofficial “Best Performance of the Night” award. And it was very difficult to hand out this award for “UFC on Versus 4”, which saw many dominant performances and one of the greatest comebacks in MMA history. Ultimately, I went with a less-obvious choice, but one that I fully stand by. Here’s why Matt Mitrione’s technical destruction of Christian Morecraft took home “Best Performance of the Night”. ...
“UFC on Versus 4” was quite the event. Not only did we see an amazing one-round war between Cheick Kongo and Pat Barry, we also saw the ascension of Charlie Brenneman, the continuing evolution of Matt Mitrione, and many, many free fights on Facebook. But which stars shined brightest, and what moments will fans be talking about in the following weeks? Here’s my take on the matter: my top 5 best moments of “UFC on Versus 4”. ...
It’s over, fans and friends… my “Perfect Storm” weekend is now no more. For three straight days we were lucky enough to get three shows by three different promotions, and only one of them (Strikeforce’s “Challengers 16” event) didn’t measure up. Bellator 46 was amazing, and “UFC on Versus 4” was almost equally as exciting. Now once again it’s time to ask: what’s next? What does the future hold after we witnessed one of the greatest comebacks in UFC and MMA history? Here’s my answer to just that: a new edition of my “What’s Next for the Winners and Losers” series of articles, now featuring “UFC on Versus 4”. ...
With one of the greatest come-from-behind victories I’ve personally ever seen, the UFC’s fourth “UFC on Versus” event certainly lived up to the hype of being almost as good as a Pay-Per-View and better than most “Fight Night Live” events. This is an event that had to deal with its headlining attraction getting nixed approximately twenty-four hours from go-time, and it passed the test with flying colors. Here are the full results as well as some early commentary for “UFC on Versus 4”. ...
On June 26, 2011, the UFC will hold its highly-anticipated “UFC LIVE: Marquardt vs. Story” event, featuring former UFC Middleweight Championship contender Nate Marquardt dropping down to Welterweight and fighting Rick Story. Also, fierce kickboxers with massive power in both their hands and their feet will collide at the event also known as “UFC on Versus 4”, with Cheick Kongo taking on Pat Barry. Still, some fans may be asking themselves: what are the best reasons to check out this card? Here’s my answer to just that: 5 reasons to watch “UFC on Versus 4”. ...
We’re now only a few days away from “UFC on Versus 4”. In the main event, fast-rising prospect Rick Story tackles his toughest challenge to date, former title challenger Nate Marquardt. Nate “The Great” is dropping down in weight and looking to make a statement at 170. The co-main event will also be an interesting match-up, as entertaining kickboxers Pat Barry and Cheick Kongo lock horns. As is customary, here is my official “picks and predictions” post (covering who I think will win and why), now featuring “UFC on Versus 4”. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to the latest edition of “Crash Course”. This is the third “Crash Course” in as many days, and it’s the final entry before we head directly into what I’ve dubbed “The Perfect Storm”, that being three different promotions holding three distinctly unique events on three separate days. So let’s get right to it with today’s edition, featuring “UFC LIVE: Marquardt vs. Story”, also known as “UFC on Versus 4”. ...
Bigger than most “Fight Night Live” events but not quite up to the standard of most ufc Pay-Per-Views, the UFC’s “UFC on Versus” events have always delivered a night of interesting and sometimes high-profile fights. Confirming weeks of rumors, the UFC recently and officially announced/confirmed four bouts for the “UFC on Versus 4” broadcast, including the Welterweight debut of former UFC Middleweight Championship contender Nate Marquardt. Here are all the details. ...
A heavyweight bout has been added to the budding UFC on Versus 4 card, featuring one of the divisions more promising up and coming stars. "The Ultimate Fighter" season ten cast member Matt Mitrione will be taking on Christian Morecraft on the Versus televised card, where both men will almost certainly meet on the main-card. A loss for Morecraft could spell walking papers from the promotion while a win for Mitrione could vaunt him into the upper echelon of the UFC's thinning heavyweight class. ...
As he continues to run through the UFC’s lower tier of Heavyweight fighters, many fans and insiders are wondering what’s next for Matt Mitrione. Just about everyone agrees that a step up in competition is most definitely called for, but there’s a lot of debate going around on the particulars and who Mitrione should test himself against next. Some fans have already singled out the hard-hitting Cheick Kongo as the next man that should challenge Mitrione, and recently, Kongo himself commented on the situation. ...
Tim Hague was hoping to breathe new life in his second stint with the UFC. Coming off of an impressive win over former UFC fighter Travis Wiuff, knocking out the near 80-fight veteran inside of the first-round, it looked like Hague had finally put everything together in order to be successful in the organization's ultra-talent-rich heavyweight division. However, the native of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada instead went on to disappoint when he suffered a first-round TKO to rising prospect Matt Mitrione last Saturday at "UFC Fight for the Troops 2". In turn, the loss also posed the reason why he was released yet again by the worlds largest mixed martial arts promotion. ...
Matt Mitrione has fared considerably well in his time inside the ufc’s famed Octagon, when you take into account how new he is to the sport and how relatively inexperienced he should be. This is a man that made his professional MMA debut in the sport’s largest organization, and he’s yet to stumble or even momentarily falter. After a very convincing performance against Tim Hague, Mitrione remains humble despite his successes, and recently gave an interesting take on his “Fight for the Troops 2” performance and what he hopes to accomplish in the near future. Here are all the details. ...
Another successful UFC event gives way to another string of medical suspensions. The UFC recently held its “Fight for the Troops 2” event, designed to raise money for non-profit charity organization The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The event saw awesome knockouts, great submissions, and good fights aplenty. And compared to the string of grizzly injuries the first “Fight for the Troops” event produced, everyone involved is likely counting their blessings that only five fighters were medically suspended following this latest event. Here are all the details. ...
It’s that time once again, fans and friends. Another major MMA event has come and gone, and I’m sure many of us are wondering “what’s next?” Yesterday’s “Fight for the Troops 2” event certainly gave us a lot to talk about, considering that it featured great submissions, brilliant knockouts, and dominating performances. As is customary, here’s the latest entry in my series that looks at what the future holds for the big winners and losers of an event, this time featuring UFC “Fight for the Troops 2”. ...
The UFC continues to shine early and often in 2011, and this fact was readily apparent in tonight’s “Fight for the Troops 2”. While it probably won’t win “Event of the Year”, it was definitely a very solid event featuring several entertaining fights. And it was for a great cause: the event was designed to help raise funds for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a nonprofit charity that helps veterans and the families of veterans. From good brawls to slick submissions, “Fight for the Troops 2” was a big success for a Spike TV show. Here are the full results as well as some initial commentary on UFC “Fight for the Troops 2”. ...
Matt Mitrione remains undefeated as he blasts through veteran Tim Hague in a one-round drubbing of the Canadian heavyweight fighter. Before his fellow countryman, at Fort Hood in Killeen, Tex. during tonight's "UFC Fight for the Troops 2", Mitrione put on arguably the best performance of his career when he utilized his improved stand up abilities, courtesy of trainer Duke Roufus. ...
It’s been a very interesting past few years for UFC fighter Tim Hague, and no one knows that better than the man himself. Heading into a fight with a relative unknown, Hague’s record stood at a very respectable 10-1. That unknown was Todd Duffee, though, who scored the fastest recorded KO in UFC history when he caught and finished Hague seven seconds into their fight. The loss would start a three-fight losing-streak. After stepping back down into the minor leagues and scoring two straight first-round KO victories, Hague steps into the Octagon for the fifth time tomorrow, facing rising UFC star Matt Mitrione. And the irony of competing in the semi-main event of a UFC show while Todd Duffee is nowhere to be found is not lost on Hague. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another edition of “What If He Wins?” a new series that looks at what the future might hold for an MMA star should he win his big upcoming fight. Today’s fighter is Matt Mitrione, known as “Meathead” during the tenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” due to his antics outside of the cage. Inside the Octagon, however, Mitrione has shown surprising versatility despite his relative newness to the sport, and seems to have a good mix of KO power, a solid chin, and a big heart. Heading into his “Fight for the Troops 2” showdown with Tim Hague, Mitrione is quickly emerging as a potential can’t-miss prospect. So what if he wins? Here are my thoughts. ...
On January 22, 2011, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will hold its second “Fight for the Troops” event and its third event ever held inside a military base. This special edition of the UFC’s normal “Fight Night Live” outings is designed to raise both awareness and funds for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a non-profit charity. Several interesting match-ups are scheduled for the event, so as is customary, here are my official picks and predictions. ...

Everything from why you should watch, what you should expect in the co-main and main event, and even where and when you can find it on TV is all covered in detail. Duke Roufus, leader of Team-RoufusSport, received a monster shot of adrenaline last month when his then rising star, Anthony Pettis, exploded into orbit with his Matrix wall climb head kick in his win over Ben Henderson. Now, Roufus looks to transfer that mojo to his number two prospect, Pat Barry, taking center stage on January 22 at UFC Fight Night 23 against the dangerous Joey Beltran. Roufus and Barry were in the corner for Pettis and now "Showtime" and Roufus will be backing the New Orleans native as he looks to rebound after his loss to Mirko Filopovic. Roufus is excited to see a vastly improved Pat Barry, who he says has been working hard to diversify his tool box of skills. ...
We’re under two weeks from the second UFC “Fight for the Troops” event, a live night of fights designed to help raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, and fight fans should already be excited for what is shaping up to be a great night of MMA action. In the main event, fast-rising Lightweight Evan Dunham takes on the always-dangerous Melvin Guillard. Here are five early reasons to already be looking forward to UFC “Fight for the Troops 2”. ...
Anthony Pettis has shot to stardom under the tutelage of Duke Roufus as part of Team RoufusSport in Milwaukee. Pettis has the fight of his life on Thursday night, against Ben Henderson, for the WEC lightweight belt and a shot at the UFC lightweight title. Pettis' trainer, Duke Roufus, recently spoke with Fighters.com and shares how Pettis may approach Henderson and why he is so difficult to fight. In this jam packed interview, Roufus also sheds light on the other stars in his camp including, how Alan Belcher is recovering from his eye injury, what went down when Pat Barry fought Cro Cop, and what lies ahead for Matt Mitrione. Click through for the audio interview. ...
As the clock turns ever-closer to 2011, the UFC has several big fights and events lined up to kick off the new year in style. Perhaps one of those most important events is not the New Year’s Day UFC 125 or the Super Bowl Weekend UFC 127, but the second edition of “UFC Fight for the Troops”, a “Fight Night Live” event designed to raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. 11 fights have recently been made official for the card, and while not PPV-caliber, it is star-studded nonetheless. Here are all the details. ...
It’s an event that’s been rumored and speculated for quite some time, and now it’s finally official: the Ultimate Fighting Championship will host another “Fight for the Troops” show. Today the ufc and Spike TV officially made “Fight for the Troops 2” official, announcing that the event will take place on January 22 in Fort Hood, Texas. Another prevalent rumor was also confirmed, as it was announced that Kenny Florian would be taking on Evan Dunham in the night’s main event. Here are all the details so far. ...
Matt Mitrione will look to continue on his undefeated record in tact when he meets ufc veteran Tim Hague coming up in January. After appearing on the ultra-popular 10th season of "The Ultimate Fighter" where "Meat Head" didn't make it past the quarter-finals when UFC light-heavyweight James McSweeney defeated him via guillotine choke (albeit in an exhibition match up). However, following his stint on the show, Mitrione, a former NFL defensive tackle, was invited back to the season's finale show in December of 2009. Successful in his UFC debut, Matt was able to dispatch of fan favorite and season semi-finalist Marcus Jones, knocking him out in just 10 seconds in the second-round. And after impressive performances against Kevin Ferguson, better known as "Kimbo Slice" and most recently Joey Beltran in front of a hometown crowd at UFC 119 in Indianapolis, Ind. In the fight with Beltran, Matt had only two professional fights to his credit against Beltran's 15. However, Mitrione proved that skill beats experience, and was able to walk away with a unanimous decision victory. ...
You probably didn't know who Malki Kawa was last Saturday. That is, until former client Matt Mitrione fired him both on national television and than reiterated the termination afterward in an interview with AOL's Ariel Helwani. CEO of First Round Management, Kawa represents fighters such as Thiago Alves, Jon Jones, and Dan Hornbuckle to name a few, however it was Matt Mitrione's statements post-UFC 119 that has given Malki the most attention in his career as a Sports Agent, which he either has Matt to thank or resent for, since it wasn't the most heartfelt things "Meat Head" has had to say. ...
It’s become a fact of life that every new season of “The Ultimate Fighter” sees the return of the ill-tempered frat-boy drama that has plagued the TUF house in one form or another ever since the first season. In some cases, Chris Leben and Josh Koscheck being prime examples, the notorious primadonna badboys actually go on to prove themselves against the world’s best competition, and even their staunchest cynics have to at least grudgingly admit that they’re talented fighters. Then you have people like Junie Browning, who was a universal bane to everyone’s existence and then completely flopped out of the UFC. TUF 10’s bad boy, Matt Mitrione, is lucky to find himself on the Koscheck/Leben side of the border, and he recently gave us a heads-up for where he see himself going as he continues fighting in the UFC. ...
This weeks installment of "Weekly Jab" brings you news on the new UFC light heavyweight champion, a former NFL football player and one of the most recognizable names in the sport. ...
