While the weigh-in ceremonies went swimmingly, more or less, for the big show, "Strikeforce: Diaz vs Noons II", which is taking place tomorrow night in San Jose, Calif., at the HP Pavilion before a sold out crowd. Everyone, with the exception of Justin Willis (271--heavyweight match; 265 limit with an added one pound allowance) and Jonathon Del Rosario (156.5--lightweight match; 155 limit with an added one pound allowance), were registered within their weight classes, and were fit to fight come Saturday Night. However, in two title fights adorning the card, being the headliner Nick Diaz, who will attempt to defend his title for the first time against the last man to defeat him nearly 3 years ago in KJ Noons, a bout between to lightweights, with no title on the line, is taking precedence over the women's welterweight title fight between Marloes Coenen and champ Sarah Kaufman...why? ...
We’re now more or less twenty-four hours away from the second chapter in one of the more bitter rivalries in recent history. Tomorrow the San Diego-based strikeforce promotion will hold its “Diaz vs. Noons 2” event at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. A four-fight main card is set to air live on the Showtime network, and will be headlined by Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz facing the man who previously beat him for the now-nonexistent EliteXC Lightweight Championship, feared striker KJ Noons. Today Strikeforce held the official weigh-ins for the event, and here are the full results (courtesy of Sherdog). ...
Sarah Kaufman has been a very vocal Strikeforce Women’s Welterweight (135-pound) Champion. Kaufman famously voiced her displeasure at being put on a lower-end “Strikeforce Challengers” show despite her status as a champion, and she emphatically proved her point when she monster-slammed Roxanne Modafferi into unconsciousness in her first championship defense. Now in a co-main event of a major Strikeforce show, Kaufman recently clued us all in on how she’s handling the added pressure, how she feels about her upcoming opponent, and more. ...
With Strikeforce: “Houston” now a done deal, the San Jose, California-based promotion is once more looking to the future. Their next event will take place live on the Showtime network on October 9, and will be held at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The venue is traditionally where Strikeforce brings all of its big events, much in the same way that the Ultimate Fighting Championship books big shows in the Mandalay Bay Events Center, and the HP Pavilion was even the home of the very first Strikeforce card ever put on. So Strikeforce fans should be treated to a good event, and some of the headline bouts have already been confirmed. Both the male and female Strikeforce Welterweight Championships will be on the line, as the controversial Nick Diaz and the energetic Sarah Kaufman are set to headline the card. Here’s what’s known about the as-yet-unnamed event so far. ...
Strikeforce has announced the next challenger for champion "Cyborg" Cris Santos (9-1). Stepping inside the cage with her will be Jan Finney (8-6) and she is not as big of an underdog as most of the fans and media make her out to be in this fight. ...
Strikeforce put on the first show of this year last night and there were highs and lows plus some shocking revelations post-fight. I will start with the high points of the night first which leads me to the showdown between "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler (17-5) and Melvin Manhoef (23-6-1). ...
