Spicing Up A Dry Season: M-1 Challenge 25 Streams Live And Free

Is it just me, or is the month of April really lacking in quality MMA cards? Sure Bellator is doing their thing and Strikeforce just put on an awesome event, but compare those offerings to March, where it felt like a major event was going on every single week and sometimes twice in one day. Well, not to fear my fight-starved fans and friends: M-1 Challenge 25 is set to stream free and live. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until April 28. Fortunately, it’s shaping up to be a good card. Here are all the details. ...

Best Performance Of The Night: Magomed Sultanakhmedov At M-1 Challenge 24

It’s that time once again, fans and friends. Another major MMA event has come and gone, and it’s time for my unofficial “Best Performance of the Night” award. Today’s “BPOTN” features M-1 Challenge 24: “Damkovsky vs. Figueroa”. In the co-main event of the evening, one man rose above all the rest with his incredibly dominant and excellent display of pacing, hard strikes, and killer instinct. Here’s why newly-crowned M-1 Global Middleweight Champion Magomed Sultanakhmedov’s utter destruction of Tyson Jeffries took home “Best Performance of the Night”. ...

Top 5 Best Moments Of M-1 Challenge 24: “Damkovsky vs. Figueroa”

Last night I once again I gave a promotion I’ve only rarely heard of and never followed a chance to win me over as a potential viewer. And once again they didn’t disappoint. Even though it took place pretty late at night, M-1 Challenge 24 was, for the most part, a very enjoyable event. But which stars shined brightest, and what moments will fans be talking about in the following weeks? Here’s my take on the matter: my top 5 best moments of M-1 Challenge 24: “Damkovsky vs. Figueroa”. ...

What's Next For The Winners And Losers Of M-1 Challenge 24: “Damkovsky vs. Figueroa”?

Yesterday marked the first-ever Showtime event of the M-1 Global promotion. M-1 Global gave late-night MMA fans five free, full, live fights, and in the end, four of those fights saw dramatic finishes. Two new champions were crowned at the event, and now once again it’s time to ask: what’s next? What does the future hold after ““Damkovsky vs. Figueroa”? Here’s my answer to just that: a new edition of my “What’s Next for the Winners and Losers” series of articles, now featuring M-1 Challenge 24. ...

M-1 Challenge 24 Results: With Fighters Finishing Four Of Five Fights, M-1's Showtime Debut Is A Success

In  a somewhat-surprising turn of events, M-1 Global recently signed a new broadcast deal with the Showtime network, the TV home of the surging and now Zuffa-owned Strikeforce promotion. Today marked the first-ever M-1 Global event on Showtime, M-1 Challenge 24: “Damkovsky vs. Figueroa”. And in perhaps an even more surprising turn of events, four of the five televised fights all ended in dramatic stoppages. As far as first impressions go, color me impressed. Here are the full results as well as some early commentary for M-1 Challenge 24. ...

M-1 Challenge 24: “Damkovsky vs. Figueroa” Picks And Predictions

We’re now only a few hours away from M-1 Challenge 24. Both the Lightweight and Middleweight Championship of M-1 Global will be up for grabs during the course of the event. This also marks the first M-1 Global event on the Showtime network. As is customary, here is my official “picks and predictions” post (covering who I think will win and why), now featuring  M-1 Challenge 24: “Damkovsky vs. Figueroa”. ...

Also, this will be the first event M-1 Global holds in conjunction with their new television home, the Showtime network. M-1 Global Signs With Showtime: What This Means, And Why You Should Watch

When most fans hear the words “M-1 Global”, they immediately think of the legendary Fedor Emelianenko’s management team. Many fans react to these words with outright hostility, as M-1 Global is usually the first entity singled out as the reason why Fedor has never and probably will never fight in the UFC. But M-1 Global is actually a functioning Mixed Martial Arts promotion, and apparently they’re doing better than ever, because it’s recently been announced that M-1 Global has signed a broadcast deal with the Showtime network. ...

Main card announced for "Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Silva"

A heavyweight Grand Prix is underway, and East Rutherford, N.J. will be in for a treat as they will be featured for an all-heavyweight cast at the IZOD Center. The main event of the evening will pit for PRIDE heavyweight champion and all around mixed martial arts legend Fedor Emelianenko as he takes on former EliteXC titleholder Antonio Silva. Along with heavy-handed stars, Strikeforce has now released the full-main card lineup with six additional fighters set to be featured on the Showtime broadcast. ...

The Latest on Fedor Emelianenko, Straight from the Man Himself

When Fedor Emelianenko speaks, everyone listens. Mostly because it happens so rarely, but also because he’s one of the most well-respected and beloved MMA fighters ever. “The Last Emperor” recently took part in a fan Q&A session on his official website, with MixFight providing a full transcript and LowKick providing us with the English translation. Here are some of the major highlights that help clue us all in on Fedor’s future. ...

Antonio Silva fighting "A" Overeem--Just not "The" Overeem
Antonio Silva fighting "A" Overeem--Just not "The" Overeem

After much speculation pointed Antonio Silva to be the next fighter to take on "The Last Emperor", or Alistair Overeem for the heavyweight title, it looks like Silva may be getting what he asked for--well, sort of. The Brazilian heavyweight fighter who hails from American Top Team, was said to be in talks to take on the last and former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, before the fighter's management company M-1 Global, and Strikeforce were unable to come to head with new contract negotiations. It appears, as such, that the Russian fighter will not be fighting for the remainder of 2010 accordingly. ...

Fedor Emelianenko's Future Still Uncertain, but a Fight in 2010 is Now No Longer an Option

Even with his shocking loss to Fabricio Werdum, Fedor Emelianenko remains one of the hottest commodities of the surging Strikeforce promotion. He’s one of the most highly-acclaimed and widely-beloved fighters of all time, so of course everyone is dying to know what’s next for “The Last Emperor” now that he’s got his first legitimate loss on his record. The most-followed and often-repeated rumor was that Emelianenko would be returning in December, but recently that’s been shot down. ...

With Fabricio Werdum Sidelined, Fedor Emelianenko's December Opponent Remains a Mystery

It’s looking more and more likely that the rumored December/New Year’s Eve fight pitting former PRIDE FC Heavyweight Champion and formerly top-ranked Pound-for-Pound fighter Fedor Emelianenko against an as-yet-unnamed opponent will be more style than substance. Alistair Overeem has already declined the potential match-up. It's also recently been confirmed that Fabricio Werdum, the man that shocked the world and handed Fedor the first legitimate loss of his career when he caught him in a triangle and forced Emelianenko to tap out, has undergone successful elbow surgery and will be out for the next several months. Even though Werdum and his manager recently stated that a return in early 2011 was possible, a fight in December is definitely a no-go. ...

The Future for Fedor Emelianenko: Japan or Russia, Most Likely New Year's Eve

If there’s one thing that both fans and cynics of Fedor Emelianenko can agree on, it’s that his next fight is going to be a proving point for the man who once ruled the Heavyweight division without equal. Leading back all the way to his glory days in PRIDE FC, up to and including his headline attractions in the short-lived Affliction promotion and now Strikeforce, many believed that Fedor was invincible and undefeatable. That all came crashing down when Fabricio Werdum shocked the world and submitted Fedor, seemingly turning the MMA world upside-down overnight. Vadim Finkelstein, the premiere face of Fedor’s semi-notorious management team M-1 Global, recently commented on when Fedor would once again be stepping into action. And it’s going to be a lot sooner than I think any of us expected- according to Vadim, Fedor’s return will be on a New Year’s Eve super-card in either Japan or Russia. ...

Fedor Wants Four to Six More Fights... Against Who?

Fedor Emelianenko is not done yet…but he’s not UFC-bound either. M-1 Global, Fedor’s management team, recently released a statement saying that Fedor would like to sign a 4-6 fight contract with Strikeforce once his current deal with them expires. As expected, Fedor detractors have called this latest statement yet another admission that Fedor is ducking the UFC. As one of the biggest Fedor fans walking the planet right now, even I can admit that Strikeforce doesn’t have the kind of roster necessary to give Fedor 4-6 fights that are actually interesting. I’m being honest here: I’m trying to think of six fights involving Fedor against Strikeforce’s Heavyweight division that really interest me, and at the most I’m able to come up with three. ...

"Greco" John Salgado (2-2-1) just pulled ahead of Renato Migliaccio (6-1) in a split decision in a 160-pound matchup at M-1 Selection Americas in Atlantic City Saturday night.  Judges' scores were 29-28 twice for Salgado and 29-28 once for Migliaccio. In a bantamweight matchup, "Fun Size" Zach Makovsky (8-2) submitted "The Rage" Josh Rave (11-7) in a guillotine choke at 1:49 of round three. ...

Former high school wrestler "Awesomely Awesome" Pat Audinwood (8-0-1) is one of the top East Coast prospects having won eight of nine pro fights with one draw. A dangerous young gun for Team BombSquad, Audinwood is a protégé of his cousin, IFL veteran and WEC fighter John Franchi (5-2), who strongly influenced Pat into a pro MMA career. ...

Meet M-1 Selection's Sedico Honorio

M-1 Selection's Sedico Honorio (5-1) is an all-purpose mixed martial arts fighter who doesn’t necessarily favor one form of discipline – Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing, Muay Thai – over another. He just likes to fight! Never shy about getting into an all out brawl, his greatest strength is a huge heart, which often separates him from many of his opponents, and endears him to his growing fan base. ...

Meet M-1 Selection Featherweight Rami Ibrahim

Kuwait-native "Arabian Nightmare" Rami Ibrahim (0-0) is a true all-around fighter, acclaimed for his Muay Thai skills, in addition to being a professional boxer and now as a  mixed martial arts competitor. When he was seven years old, Ibrahim’s family went on vacation to the United States but, unfortunately, the Gulf War broke out while they were visiting Philadelphia. They relocated to Philly and Ibrahim, who spoke very little English, encountered problems growing up. His parents enrolled him in karate classes, which ultimately changed his life and sent him on a journey in combat sports that continues to expand. ...

M-1 Selection Just One Tier in Fedor Emelianenko's M-1 Global Pyramid
