The fights keep piling in. Luiz Cane, at one point thought to be one of the top dogs in the light heavyweight division, will continue his return to the top come this August as he returns for "UFC 134: Rio" opposite of promotional newcomer, Stanislav Nedkov. UFC 134 takes place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janiero, Brazil when the promotion returns to the mixed martial arts mecca for the first time since 1998, and is bringing back a stellar card which will feature some of the more notable fighters to come out of their native country, including pound-for-pound best Anderson Silva, as he returns to defend his middleweight crown against top contender Yushin Okami. Now, Cane hopes to build upon a recent victory this past March with a possible win over Nedkov. Though Stanislav is new to the cage, he is no pushover and has the proper credentials to be a force in the division. ...
For a while, Luiz Cane appeared to be one of them that stuck out in the light-heavyweight division as a viable contender for the title. However, consecutive knockout losses to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Cyrille Diabate quickly derailed his rise to the top of the class. After re-upping with the organization earlier this year, Cane knew that he needed a win to keep his job. It seems like most fighters feel as though a drop in weight could revitalize your career. For what reason, that's remains a mystery. Do they anticipate less stiffer competition against smaller competitors or do they feel that they will hold a size advantage? Regardless of those tedious details, Cane was among those fighter who believed that a drop in weight could help reinvent himself, and revitalize his career, though a win over Eliot Marshall at ufc 128 surely eliminated those ideas. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to a new series simply called “Prelims Predictions”. When I normally do my “Picks and Predictions” piece for an upcoming MMA card, I usually only focus on the main/televised card. For Strikeforce it’s the Showtime broadcast, for the UFC it’s the Pay-Per-View lineup, etc. But now more and more the major players in MMA are giving fans easy access to preliminary fights, and the UFC in particular is leading the trend with multiple free prelims on Facebook and Spike TV for UFC 128 this Saturday. As this idea grows in popularity and more and more fans tune in to watch these prelims, I think it’s only natural that I give my thoughts on them in order to both talk more about the fights I enjoy and give exposure to a pretty entertaining series. So here we go with the first edition of “Prelims Predictions”, featuring my predictions for the UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones” preliminary fights. ...
"The Ultimate Fighter" season-eight semi-finalist Eliot Marshall will be returning to the octagon come this March, taking on arguably one of his toughest challenges in his mixed martial arts career. The light heavyweight submission specialist eventually made his way to the octagon after a successful stint on the TUF series, where he was defeated by eventual show winner Ryan Bader. After rattling off a 3-0 run in the 205-pound division, Marshall was abruptly released from the promotion following a lackluster decision loss at the hands of perennial top-10 fighter, Vladimir Matyushenko. Now, Eliot will make the best of this second-chance as he steps up for an injured Karlos Vemola and takes on Brazilian slugger Luiz Cane. ...
Budding UFC prospect Karlos Vemola is out of his next scheduled bout. The juggernaut light heavyweight fighter was expected to make his return under the Zuffa banner this March at "UFC 128: Jones vs. Rua" on the preliminary portion of the card, which was hand picked to be aired live in Ion Television. Vemola was next up for former contender Luiz Cane, however has since developed an injury that will leave him unable to participate in his anticipated match-up. ...
From UFC contender to dwindling dropout, Luiz Cane has had a rough patch in his mixed martial arts career, to say the least. The Brazilian striker opened up his career under the Zuffa banner in defeat, though a controversial at that when he took a disqualification loss to veteran James Irvin. The former American Top Team product returned with a three-fight win streak, knocking out former top-light heavyweight stars in Jason Lambert and the infamous Sokoudjou. Now, Cane faces the UFC axe should he suffer a loss in his next outing, because usually losing three-fights in a row is never a good thing if you want to be employed under the worlds most popular mixed martial arts promotion and be considered as one of the best. ...
