It’s that time again, fans and friends. A new month will soon be upon us, which means all-new fights and much-anticipated epic encounters. Near the start of every month I’ll be counting down the five fights I’m looking forward to the most, and why I’m looking forward to them. This is “Top 5 Most Anticipated Fights of July 2011”. Let’s get started. ...
It’s the end of the line, fans and friends. Now that I’ve talked about the best fights and the best fighter of April 2011, it’s time to focus on the worst part of the month. Not every MMA event can be spectacular, not all fights are “Fight of the Year” candidates. In “Flop of the Month”, I’ll look back on and discuss the biggest stumbling block of April 2011: not only why it failed, but why it was the most-important or most high-profile failure of the month. And it doesn’t get much worse than a loudmouth fighter talking a big game only to get served up a beating, and then winning a very controversial decision. Here’s why Joe Warren’s much-hyped Bantamweight “pre-debut” at Bellator 41 is April 2011’s “Flop of the Month”. ...
Another one went into the history books tonight, as upstart promotion Bellator FC celebrated its forty-first event, another live and weekly event on the MTV2 network. The event saw two semi-final fights of Bellator’s Season Four tournaments, as well as two non-title “super-fights” featuring Bellator Champions Zach Makovsky and Joe Warren. Here are the full results as well as some early commentary for Bellator 41. ...
By John Moody We all know how fun it can be to watch Anderson Silva dump an upkick to the grill of Vitor Belfort or Jon Jones drop sledgehammer elbows to Brandon Vera's skull. But hey, we kind of expect this, these are some of the best pound for pound fighters walking the planet. So what about the fighters not always front and center of every MMA chit chat. Well here are some guys, that rarely, if ever, fail to excite and entertain in the cage. ...
Bellator 41 will feature the second-round of the featherweight tournament. The event takes place tomorrow night at Cocopah Resort and Casino in Yuma, Arizona. In the main-event of the evening, reigning featherweight champion Joe Warren will meet in a catch-weight bout of 136-pounds against WEC veteran and former top-10 fighter Marcos Galvao, a touted Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. Also on the card, bantamweight champ Zach Makovsky will be taking on Chad Robichaux in a non-title bout. Season two finalist Patricio Freire will square off against Wilson Reis to determine the next finalist en route to the featherweight title, while Daniel Straus and Kenny Foster will do the same. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to the second part of today’s two-part entry into my series “5 Reasons Why”. Today’s entry covers the Bellator 41 “super-fight” between Joe Warren and Marcos Galvao. For the first part of today’s two-parter, click here. Now it’s time for the reverse: these are the five reasons why Marcos Galvao could beat Bellator Featherweight Champion Joe Warren. Let’s dive right in. ...
In order to keep their champions active while everybody else is busy fighting it out for a shot at the championship, Bellator FC routinely puts its title holders into non-title “super-fights”. Sometimes these fights don’t live up to their billing, like when Nick Thompson fought Bellator Champion Ben Askren despite the fact that Thompson had lost three straight fights beforehand. But at Bellator 41 tomorrow, Joe Warren meets Marcus Galvao in a fight that should live up to that “super-fight” moniker. While I have already given my official prediction, a growing part of me thinks that this fight could go either way. Why do I think this? Here’s just that: a new entry into my “5 Reasons Why” series of columns. First up: 5 reasons why Joe Warren could beat Marcos Galvao. ...
The ascension for Bellator featherweight champion has been quick and unexpected. Although he holds word class credentials as a wrestler, those same accolades have not always meant instant success in the mixed martial arts world. However, Warren already boasts big wins over opponents such as the legendary "Kid" Yamamoto, former WEC champion Chase Beebe, and in his last outing, he claimed the Bellator title after running a roughshod through last season's 145-pound tourney. When Warren defeated former champ Joe Soto for the promotion's title, it put everyone on notice that not only is the Olympic hopeful a force to be reckoned with, but he is one of the best fighters in the world. Now, Warren will take his accolades elsewhere as he tries to claim a title in a second-weight class, but first he must face Marcos Galvao. ...
Since winning the Bellator featherweight title this past year, Joe Warren has asserted himself as one of the best featherweight's in the world, and the self-proclaimed "Baddest Man on the Planet" isn't looking to stop at just a mixed martial arts title. He's still seeking Olympic infamy. Before his foray into the world of MMA in 2008, Warren was considered to be one of the best Greco-Roman wrestlers on the planet, having won the very prestigious Pan American games in 2006, Joe was considered to be a favorite heading into the 2008 Olympic games. However, Marijuana+drug screenings don't mix well with the 34-year-old as he came up positive heading into the 2007 World Cup. ...
Former Bellator featherweight champion Joe Soto just can't catch any breaks. Once adorned as one of the best featherweights in the world, Soto's fairytale run towards the title in Bellator came to an abrupt halt by one Mr. Joe Warren. The Olympian hopeful was battered in the first round when the two dynamic competitors met at Bellator 27 on September 2, with the title up for grabs. Every time Warren came forward engaging Soto to clinch, Joe stung him with hooks and uppercuts in succession. It looked like it was only just a matter of time, before Warren pulled out a hail mary right hook which clipped Soto, followed with punches, a big knee against the fence and another punch that sent Soto to sleep, and claimed Warren the biggest win of his career, and a shiny belt to show for his efforts. Now, after losing his title, his mother in a car accident last Christmas, Soto may now be losing vision in his eye following a detached retina. ...
Olympic Wrestling hopeful and current Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren was scheduled to meet fellow standout Michihiro Omigawa at DREAM 16. The bout was to determine a new top contender, conceivably, for the Japanese promotion's 139-pound strap, however due to some on going talks with his manager concerning Warren's safety. ...
Japan, eat your heart out. Your boy Joe Warren is making a name for himself, elsewhere. Joe Soto, arguably a top-10 caliber fighter, looked every bit of that in the opening frame against the Olympic wrestling hopeful in their 145-pound clash at Bellator 27, just yesterday. After staggering Warren numerous times on the feet with effective close-quarters boxing, it looked like the end was imminent and Soto was in control. I guess somebody just forgot to tell Warren that. ...
While this might not be as cataclysmic as the DREAM tag team with Sengoku for last years Dynamite!! 2009 show at the Saitama Super Arena before a near 50,000 seated crowd, this is important none the less. Recently crowned Sengoku featherweight champion Marlon Sandro, the proverbial knockout king with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt to boot, is rumored for the September 25th event for DREAM 16. ...
A featherweight title fight in September apparently won't stop the Joe Warren train from booking a second fight, overseas at that, in the same month. The aforementioned featherweight will be facing Bellator 145-pound champion Joe Soto on September 2. in San Antonio, Tex. for the title. Earning his crack at the belt, Warren fought his way through the season two, 8-man featherweight tourney, after claiming victories over Eric Marriott, Georgi Karakhanyan, and finally a split decision over the previously undefeated Patricio Freire for the season's $100,000 check and number one contenders spot. ...
MMA Gospel Radio airs episode 44 tonight which features arguably the best cut man in the business, Stitch Duran as well as Bellator fighters Joe Warren and Ryan Thomas. ...
Undefeated Team Quest wrestler "Savage" Cory Grant (3-0) will fight Japanese lightweight “Moon Wolf" Rumina Sato (26-12-2) at Vale Tudo Japan 2009 at JCB Hall in Tokyo October 30. "Moon Wolf" was originally scheduled to fight Team Quest's Joe Warren (2-1) in a highly-anticipated matchup, but Warren was forced to withdraw due to injury. ...
