From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, Anthony Pettis left the WEC as the final WEC Lightweight Champion and entered the UFC only to promptly lose his debut. But “Showtime” is still a very entertaining fighter and a very interesting addition to an increasingly-crowded Lightweight division. There’s a lot of good opponents for Anthony Pettis in the UFC, and to prove that, here are my personal picks for the five fighters Anthony Pettis should face next. ...
A pivotal lightweight affair has been added to the upcoming UFC on Versus card. Ben Henderson, the former WEC lightweight champion will be meeting with perennial contender Jim Miller at the upcoming "UFC on Versus 5" card, which takes place on August 14 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The main-event of the evening will pit welterweights Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle opposite of one another, though Henderson and Miller could very well find themselves in the co-main event slot due to the gravity of their bout and the implications that it will carry over into the division. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another new edition of “Best of the Rest”! I really enjoy taking the time to give my detailed thoughts on a show after watching it, but after the serious discussion and debate I’ll raise in topics like “Top 5 Best Moments” and “Best Performance of the Night”, I think it’d be nice to have a tongue-in-cheek topic where I give out some other “awards”. It’s all in good fun, so don’t take any of it too seriously. So let’s dive right into this latest edition, now featuring UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones”. ...
At UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones”, names were made and stars were crushed. Veteran talent fell to hot prospects in two major match-ups, while the lighter-weight fighters shined in big and very entertaining bouts. But which stars shined brightest, and what moments will fans be talking about in the following weeks? Here’s my take on the matter: my top 5 best moments of UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones”. ...
UFC 128 will likely be talked about for many months to come, whether it’s due to Mirko Cro Cop getting KO’d again, Jim Miller staking his claim atop the UFC’s Lightweight division, or the obvious: Jon Jones destroying Mauricio Rua. But now once again it’s time to ask: what’s next? What does the future hold after so much seems to have changed? Here’s my answer to just that: a new edition of my “What’s Next for the Winners and Losers” series of articles, now featuring UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones”. ...
Another huge UFC event went into the history books tonight, fans and friends. UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones” is over and done with. It was a night that saw four free preliminary fights, several amazing knockouts, and the ascension of several fighters to top-division status. And in the main event, Jon Jones kick-started “The Era of Bones” by utterly dominating Mauricio Rua. Here are the full results as well as some early commentary on UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones”. ...
By John Moody MMA fans are in hog heaven over the next three weeks with two UFC events and another major Strikforce show. There are numerous fights across all the cards which should dazzle, but I have targeted three, in particular, which will impact the sport at large to a greater scale. They may not be what you expect ... give a look! ...
The ufc continues to find itself the subject of much debate when talks turn to its increasingly stringent policy on fighter’s contracts. However, the UFC has definitely done a good job of keeping its best and brightest under contract, including most of the hot prospects that have real potential to become major stars in the future. Recently, it was announced that both Charlie Brenneman and Jim Miller have signed contract extensions with the UFC. Here are all the details. ...
It’s mostly been confirmed that the last WEC Lightweight Champion will have to wait for his unification bout against the UFC Lightweight Champion. But Anthony Pettis isn’t the kind of man that sits on the sidelines. While Frank Edgar and Gray Maynard fight for a third time in order to finally find out which one of them is the better fighter, Pettis will look to prove himself in the UFC with or without a title being on the line. But who should “Showtime” face in his first Octagon bout? Here are my personal Top 5 opponents for Anthony Pettis. ...
Although it’s not even officially 2011 yet, the ufc is planning cards months in advance and continues to announce several highly-interesting match-ups for their early 2011 efforts. Most recently, word has come down concerning two big March bouts that features the fast-ascending Jim Miller and the controversial “Bruce Leroy” from the twelfth season of the popular UFC reality TV show “The Ultimate Fighter”. Here are all the details. ...
With absolutely no disrespect meant to UFC Middleweight Dan Miller, the recent UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2” event proved once and for all that he’ll likely remain “the other Miller brother” for a long, long time. While Dan fought to a tough Split Decision win over Joe Doerksen, his brother Jim Miller surprised everyone in attendance by snatching up Charles Oliveira’s leg and getting the tap-out over the highly-touted prospect. In a new interview, Miller stated that his dominant performance is due in no small part to the fact that he was fighting for respect in the UFC’s increasingly-competitive Lightweight division, to which I say: mission accomplished. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another edition of “What’s Next”, where I pull out my trusty crystal globe and take a glimpse at what I think the future holds for the big winners and losers of a major MMA event. UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2” was definitely a major event, and it had plenty of big winners and losers. In the main event, Georges St. Pierre utterly outclassed Josh Koscheck in perhaps one of the best performances GSP has ever given us in his vaunted career. So let’s get right to it with another edition of “What’s Next.” ...
The final UFC event of the first decade of the new millennium is now in the history books, fans and friends. And what an event it was: from the preliminary card featured live on UFC.com to the Pay-Per-View itself, this was a night loaded with fantastic fights and amazing finishes. One could seemingly not ask for a better way to end the year, as Georges St. Pierre put on yet another classic performance and dominated Josh Koscheck for five straight rounds. Here are the full results as well as some early commentary on UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”. ...
An exciting lightweight showdown, which had previously been rumored for the Montreal event in December, has now become official. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts, Jim Miller and Charles Oliveira have been added to the lineup for "ufc 124: St. Pierre vs Koscheck II". The welterweight headliner is expected to take place in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on December 11 at the famed Bell Centre. Currently the UFC's number two hot bed for mixed martial arts (just behind Las Vegas, of course) has become a beacon for the promotion to deliver an exciting night of fights, and Miller and Oliveira are no exception. ...
Heading into his ufc 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2” fight with Jim Miller, young gun Charles Oliveira has been gaining a considerable amount of momentum. His two-year, fourteen-fight career is completely unblemished, with not a loss to his name, and that includes two fights in the UFC, the best and most competitive MMA promotion in the world. Oliveira recently beat formerly-famed and (at the time of the fight) grossly overweight Efrain Escudero, the former “Ultimate Fighter” winner that had at one time been a big part of the UFC’s drive into Mexico. In a recent interview with Tatame.com, Oliveira shed some light on where he stands now that he’s finding his footing in the UFC. Here are the highlights. ...
A pair of brothers will be looking to make their mark at the recently-made-official UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck” event. Jim Miller and Dan Miller will be sharing more than a familial bond when they compete at the event headlined by Georges St. Pierre defending his UFC Welterweight Championship against arch-rival Josh Koscheck; they’ll be sharing and competing for the spotlight. Here are all the details. ...
Thoughts, reflections, speculation, deductions, and criticism from the UFC fights last night in Austin, Texas. 1. Yes, Rousimar Palhares should know better. Don’t stop fighting mid-round without referee assistance. However, I still feel odd about Marquardt’s victory. He did exactly what he should do and capitalize on his opponent’s mistake, but it just doesn’t feel right that Palhares felt genuinely “wronged,” albeit incorrectly, and consciously stopped fighting. Marquardt was cleared of greasing and I am not saying he did anything wrong, but, in no way was Marquardt dominating and the fight was up for grabs. Horrible mistake for Palhares and I don’t feel Marqaurdt is clearly the better fighter since this ended in such a clumsy, odd, bizarre, uncomfortable way. Hopefully, Palhares gets back to winning ways and we see this fight again some day. ...
Jim Miller is a dynamic ufc Lightweight, and a recent guest of Fighters.com Radio, looking for another shot at breaking into the top of his division when he faces veteran Gleison Tibau at UFC Fight Night 22: “Marquardt vs. Palhares”. A loss to Gray Maynard halted Miller’s ascension to best-in-the-world status, but his four straight wins since that defeat is all the proof I need to know that Jim Miller could go far in the UFC. In a recent interview with MMAWeekly Radio, Miller discussed the often-debated topic on whether or not teammates should fight teammates in the UFC. ...
Jim Miller is admittedly just outside the top 5 or 6 ranked UFC lightweights, but all that could change with a convincing victory over Gleison Tibau on September 15th in Austin Texas at UFC Fight Night 22. Miller is on a powerful four fight win streak and has only one loss in the UFC ... to title contender Gray Maynard. Miller took some time to speak with Fighters.com recently about his upcoming fight and Frankie Edgar's recent victory over BJ Penn at UFC 118. Click through to listen! ...
Former UFC fighter "The Silverback" Seth Petruzelli (11-4) best known for his TKO win over Kimbo Slice (4-2) at an October 2008 EliteXC show is returning to the Octagon. His opponent will be light heavyweight Ricardo Romero (10-1) at UFC 116. ...

Xtreme Couture's "Phenom" Vitor Belfort (18-8) scored his bulliest victory in four-plus years TKOing Fighters.com's ninth-ranked middleweight "Ace" Rich Franklin (26-5) at 3:02 of round one in a 195-pound catch weight main event at UFC 103 in Dallas Saturday night. "Jesus, I love you," shouted Belfort in the Octagon after the fight, and in his dressing room he added, "God gave me a gift and I'm using it. And, I'm ready. A lot of people thought I was done, you know, and that's what I'm bringing to this game - hope, faith, and hard work. ...
"I heard my abductor snap," said UFC welterweight champion "Rush" Georges St. Pierre (19-2) after defending his title from "Pitbull" Thiago Alves (16-4) in a five-round unanimous decision at UFC 100 in Las Vegas Saturday night, then the Québécois superstar limped from the Octagon to receive immediate treatment for the groin injury suffered when Alves put him on his back in the third round. Tuesday in Montréal St. Pierre will have an MRI to determine the extent of the injury that will keep him from fighting again until 8 January unless cleared by doctor, according to a suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Regardless, the NSAC has instructed St. Pierre not to engage in full-contact training until 2 August. Middleweight "Sexyama" Yoshihiro Akiyama (14-2) came away from his Octagon debut versus "The Talent" Alen Belcher (14-6) with a split decision victory and fractured orbital bone that will keep him from returning also until 8 January unless cleared by an ophthalmologist. ...
"Mongoose" Jim Miller (13-1) defeated Matt Wiman (10-4) via unanimous decision Wednesday night at Fort Bragg during the UFC’s “Fight for the Troops" event. Round one began with a swarm of punches from both fighters. Miller came out on the better side of the exchanges before Wiman shot for a takedown. During the takedown attempt, Miller caught Wiman in a powerful guillotine choke. Rolling eventually into mount, Miller put pressure on the choke but Wiman escaped. Miller followed with a flurry of punches that were answered by a left hook to his chin from Wiman. At round's end, a body kick hurt Wiman before he was saved by the horn. The second round started more intense than the opener with both fighters swinging furiously. After a pause, Miller caught Wiman with another hurtful body kick. Sensing reward, Miller backed Wiman into the cage with a flurry of punches followed by a strong knee. Wiman displayed a respectable chin under the barrage of shots from Miller but ended up in guard only to take on more punishment before the end of the round. The final round stayed in theme as the previous two with Miller unleashing a flurry of punches upon Wiman. Miller continued forward with a strong left hand punch and a knee that visibly hurt his opponent. Miller pushed continuously forward with a takedown and side control. Following Miller's dominance of the round, Wiman briefly took top position before Miller transitioned into a rear naked choke attempt. At the sounding of the final horn, Miller's overall performance was impressive and dominant. Jim Miller officially won via unanimous decision. ...
Lightweight Jim Miller (12-1) tapped Frenchman David Baron (16-3) in a rear naked choke at 3:19 of the third round at UFC 89 in Birmingham Saturday night. Miller scooped a Baron low kick and dumped Baron to the mat, scrambling into full mount. "It was there; so, I went for it," said Baron. "His hands were kind of high and his hips weren't where they were supposed to be to defend the takedown." ...
All UFC 89 fighters made their weight today at the NIA for Saturday's card in Birmingham.
"Count" Michael Bisping (16-1) 185 pounds v "Crippler" Chris Leben (18-4) 186 pounds
"I'm glad you guys let me into your country," main event fighter Leben said at Thursday's press conference. "I was a little worried on the plane."
Leben was originally scheduled to fight Bisping in London 7 June, but opted to put to rest legal issues in Oregon stemming from an earlier DUI arrest to ensure a legal UK visa.
But, the pressure is squarely on the shoulders of Brit Bisping, who told the press, "I am on a quest. Losing this fight for me is not an option."
Leben, wearing tight cornrows, chided his opponent, saying, "It seems to me that, when Michael Bisping fights, self-preservation is top on his list."
A brawl would certainly benefit Leben. Bisping's stand-up style is a bit more circle-and-poke, while Leben is happy to plant and throw bombs.

The UFC officially pulled the light heavyweight match between Fighters.com’s fifth-ranked “Dragon” Lyoto Machida (13-0) and tenth-ranked Thiago Silva (13-0) off the UFC 89 card Wednesday, happening 18 October in Birmingham.
The organization also confirmed a lightweight match between between David Baron (16-2) and Jim Miller (11-1) at the same event.
Silva withdrew last week due to a back injury, and now Machida has also been removed completely from the card.
Machida told Tatame, “There’s no way to find an opponent now, and I’ll have to wait another event to fight. I don’t know who I’ll face, UFC didn’t say anything yet, only that I won’t fight at UFC 89. It’s sad because I was focused, training hard and prepared, but this kind of things happens.”
Machida most recently faced “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Tito Ortiz (15-6-1), winning a unanimous decision at UFC 84 in May.
Shooto veteran Baron won his last fight via first-round guillotine choke over “Mach” Hayato Sakurai (32-8-2) in May.
Baron has not been defeated since Fighters.com’s second-ranked lightweight “Fireball Kid” Takanori Gomi (29-3) caught him with a rear naked choke at PRIDE in 2008.
Miller last fought in the IFL, winning a unanimous decision over “Bartimus” Bart Palaszewski (29-11) in April. ...
Former TUF finalist ""Hillbilly Heartthrob" Brad Imes (11-4) will challenge IFL Heavyweight Champ Roy Nelson (12-2) 16 May in Uncasville, Connecticut. Imes replaced Branden Lee Hinkle (13-9) Saturday on the New Blood New Battles card at the Mohegan Sun Arena after Hinkle withdrew due to an injured rib. Imes won a UD over James Jack (2-1) in March and is amidst a 6-1 run since losing his last UFC appearance Fighters.com's eighth-ranked heavyweight "Texas Crazy Horse" Heath Herring (28-13) in April 2007. Nelson has knocked off four straight victories himself since losing to heavyweight prospect Ben Rothwell (29-5) in April 2007. Lightweight prospect Jim Miller (11-1) and "Morango" Fabricio Camoes (8-4) have also been removed from the card after Camoes pulled up lame during training. ...
