By now almost everyone has chimed in with their opinion on the main event of the recent UFC 119: “Mir vs. Cro Cop” event. I myself have claimed that the fight was boring but not atrocious, and that a lot of people seem to be blowing it out of proportion. But what does the big boss himself have to say? In the past, UFC President Dana White has been very vocal and critical about the lackluster performances of his fighters. So how did he feel about this fight? Here’s exactly that, courtesy of ESPN. ...
ufc 119: “Mir vs. Cro Cop” was a very physical night of fights for many of the performers competing on the night’s card, and as such, several injuries were sustained in the course of the event. The Indiana Gaming Commission has recently released their list of fighter suspensions following the event, and topping the charts are both Matt Serra and Mirko Filipovic, each of whom received indefinite suspensions. Even Mark Hunt was suspended indefinitely. Here’s how it all broke down. ...
The diagnosis is in…and it’s looking pretty bad for ufc 119: “Mir vs. Cro Cop”. Fan and insider reaction seems to be largely negative, with many calling it one of the worst UFC events in recent history. Much of that negativity seems to be falling squarely on the shoulders of former UFC Heavyweight and Interim Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir, who dramatically knocked out Mirko Filipovic in the night’s main event in a fight that, up until that point, ranged from adequate to underwhelming to boring to abysmal to utterly atrocious, depending on whom you ask. And if you ask Frank Mir, he’d tell you that he also thinks his performance wasn’t one for the history books. ...
Just how big is the UFC? Apparently it’s big enough that their recent UFC 119 event was one of the biggest in recorded Indiana history. According to MMAWeekly, 15,811 fans packed into the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana for a total gate of $1,613,337. Fans were treated to a slightly-underwhelming show that I honestly believe isn’t getting half the credit it deserves in the early days of reflection and post-fight analysis. The UFC opened up its pocketbooks after the event and issued $70,000 bonuses in the form of their often-used but sometimes-confusing “Of the Night” awards. Here’s who got what and why. ...
UFC 119 was an interesting event to say the very least. We saw Ryan Bader beat Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and cement his status as a top-division athlete. Chris Lytle put himself “into the mix” for the first time in years (some cynics would say “ever”) with his dominant performance over former UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra. Sean Sherk returned and will likely become a lightning-rod of heated debate due to his controversial win over Evan Dunham. All this happened, and then Frank Mir knocked out Mirko Filipovic. So what’s next for the big winners and losers of UFC 119? Here are my thoughts. ...
Another UFC event has come and gone, and what a shocking (but perhaps also underwhelming?) night of fights it was. The Spike TV “Prelims Live” special delivered two great fights for free, setting up what would be a Pay-Per-View card with its fair share of highlights as well as not-so-good moments. In the main event, former UFC Heavyweight and Interim Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir put a dramatic end to what had been a largely underwhelming performance when he surprise-KO’d feared Croatian striker and semi-revered PRIDE legend Mirko Filipovic. Here are the full results to UFC 119: “Mir vs. Cro Cop” as well as my thoughts on the card. ...
The time for talk is finally over: UFC 119 is upon us. The event is scheduled to take place today at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. The stacked card features Mirko Filipovic vs. Frank Mir, Ryan Bader vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Chris Lytle vs. Matt Serra, Evan Dunham vs. Sean Sherk, and more. Weigh-ins were held yesterday and not a single fighter came in over the limit. All the fights are official, so here are the weigh-in results for UFC 119 “Mir vs. Cro Cop”. ...
ufc 119 is only a day away, and the final promotional pushes are being done to get fans excited and interested in a card that sees Frank Mir take on Mirko Filipovic in the main event. We at Fighters.com have covered UFC 119 extensively, and I myself have recently posted my predictions for the event. Those predictions were primarily based on what questions I think will be answered come UFC 119, and the more I think about, the more I think that UFC 119 will answer some very important questions for some very important fighters. So here’s my list of the top 5 questions that UFC 119 will answer. ...
Mirko Cro Cop has stepped up to the plate to face Frank Mir at UFC 119, in what was thought to be ample time to prepare. Antonio Rodgrigo Nogueria, Mir's original opponent for the main event of the evening bowed out of the contest some time ago, approximately two months before the bout was to take place. Now, as the fight looms closer, an injury and insufficient time to prepare, cited by "Cro Cop", may give the Croation the disadvantage come Saturday night. ...
The upcoming ufc 119 event is rapidly approaching, and it looks to be a solid event from top to bottom. The main event fight between Mirko Filipovic and Frank Mir had recently come into question after it was revealed that “Cro Cop” had hurt himself in training. Apparently much ado was made about nothing, as the UFC recently put up a press release confirming that the PRIDE FC legend had been medically cleared to compete. Here’s what the official release said, as well as my predictions for the card. ...
As UFC 119 looms closer, the promotion has made official one more card on the bout. The September card, which is headlined by former champions Frank Mir and Mirko Filipovic, better known simply as "Cro Cop", is now going 11-deep with the addition of the lightweight match up of veteran Thiago Tavares against octagon debutant Pat Audinwood. ...
Frank Mir is no stranger to controversy. In fact, his rivalry with current UFC Champion Brock Lesnar may be one of the bitterest rivalries in recent history. From saying that he was thinking of dropping down to Light Heavyweight to saying that he wanted Lesnar to be the first man to die from Octagon-related injuries, Frank Mir knows how to stir the pot. However, it appears that Mir wants no part of a rivalry with his next opponent, famed PRIDE FC wrecking machine Mirko Filipovic, who replaced an injured Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and will headline the UFC 119 event against Mir. In fact, Mir recently said during an appearance on “The MMA Hour” that he felt that Mirko Cro Cop was still a dangerous opponent even in today’s highly competitive UFC Heavyweight division. I respect Frank Mir for showing a little dignity and humility towards his opponent, but facts are facts: Mirko Cro Cop will never again be anywhere close to championship-level. ...
The only man to ever be called Elite XC Heavyweight Champion, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva recently came down hard on industry insiders ranking current UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar as the top Heavyweight in the world. Silva recently spoke to tatame.com and asserted that Fabricio Werdum should be the number-one Heavyweight following his surprise submission win over “The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianeko, who had sat atop the #1 Heavyweight slot for several years running, at least according to many major news outlets and insider websites. Silva also expressed shock over a fighter having a 5-1 record being considered the best in the world. I, personally, am more shocked that people are taking Antonio Silva seriously when he says things like this. ...
According to MMAJunkie, MMAWeekly and among other media outlets, UFC executives officially made official the main event of UFC 119, Frank Mir will in fact take on former Pride Grand Prix Champion Mirko "Cro Cop" at the Conseco Fieldhouse, in Indianapolis, Minn. on September 25th. ...
Former Pride and UFC heavyweight champion, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria, will soon undergo hip surgery. The news was delivered by Brazilian website, Tatame.com, where "Minotauro" explains what's up next for him. ...
The rematch has been postponed, and what a fight it could have been. It’s been confirmed that former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has pulled out of his upcoming UFC 119 main-event fight with the first man to ever (T)KO him, former UFC Heavyweight and Interim Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir. Both “Big Nog” and Frank Mir have tasted defeat most recently, and this fight was not only seen as a great grudge match, but as a way for both men to prove that they could still hang with the UFC’s Heavyweight elite. Ironically, Nogueira’s replacement is not only a man that perhaps came closest to knocking out “Big Nog” before Frank Mir, but now also finds himself out to prove that he can still compete at an elite level in the world’s biggest/best MMA promotion. It’s not official just yet, but all signs point to Mirko Filipovic stepping in and facing Frank Mir as the main event of UFC 119. ...
While most fans we're hoping for Fedor's inception into the UFC sometime ago, it looks like we will have to wait just a little bit longer than anticipated. Emelianeko, legend and former Pride and WAMMA heavyweight champion, is apparently in good standings with his new home with Strikeforce. ...
When used correctly, a fighter’s entrance music is a great way to introduce new fans to a fighter. It can show off a fighter’s style, intensity, aura, and much more. However, it’s become an unfortunate trend to have fighters use generic rock songs that have been so heavily over-played that they begin to lose all significance. It’s rare that a fighter has an entrance music that truly defines him as a fighter, but there are several great exceptions. So here are some of my favorite fighter entrance themes. ...
UFC 119 has finally gotten itself a new main event, and it will come in the form of a second match between two former UFC Heavyweight Champions, Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Mir and Nogueira have quite a history with each other, as they coached a season of the Ultimate Fighter against one another and, at the conclusion, Mir became the only man in history (up to that point, anyway) to ever TKO “Big Nog”. Both men are 1-2 in their last three fights, and seem to be at a crossroads of sorts. While I don’t see either fighter having to work his way back up from the bottom should he lose, I do think this fight will determine which man is still good enough to be considered “in the mix”. So who takes the rematch? ...

"I'd rather be fighting for the belt and be done with it," The Ultimate Fighter 10 champion “Big Country” Roy Nelson (15-4) told MMA Weekly Radio after knocking out 6'11" heavyweight prospect “Skyscraper” Stefan Struve (23-4) in 39 seconds at UFC’s Ultimate Fight Night 21 in Charlotte March 31. ...
At UFC's Ultimate Fight Night 21 in Charlotte Wednesday night The Ultimate Fighter 10 champion “Big Country” Roy Nelson(15-4) knocked out 6'11" heavyweight prospect “Skyscraper” Stefan Struve (23-4) in 39 seconds, an impressive win for a "fat guy" with a nearly one-foot height disadvantage. I noted to a friend recently that an MMA Junkie article listing the UFC's top heavyweight talent included, of course, UFC champion and Fighters.com's second-ranked heavyweight Brock Lesnar (4-1), his title challenger Shane Carwin (10-0), next in line Cain Velasquez(9-0), ”Cigano” Junior dos Santos (10-1), recently defeated former UFC champion Frank Mir(13-4), and former PRIDE and interim UFC champion “Minotauro” Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira(32-6-1). The article also threw Struve and Cheick Kongo(14-6-1) into the mix at the top of the UFC's heavyweight division...but no Nelson. My point to my friend was that I wouldn't mind leaving Nelson out of a discussion of the UFC's top heavyweights, but if you're going to throw in Struve and Kongo, you have to include Nelson. ...

Here we are after WEC 47 in Columbus, Ohio and a few things stood out as I watched the event. There were highlight reel knock outs, great submissions and a couple of failures during the evening. ...
Fighters.com's third-ranked heavyweight and former UFC champion Frank Mir (13-4) has issued a formal apology at UFC.com for a remark he made last weekend on WXDX radio in Pittsburgh: "[I want Brock Lesnar to be] the first person that dies due to Octagon-related injuries." ...
After UFC 110 in Sydney Saturday night, UFC President Dana White told the post-event press conference, "In my opinion, [Fighters.com's fourth-ranked heavyweight “Minotauro” Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-6-1)] is probably the best heavyweight of all time, and [Cain Velasquez (9-0)] absolutely demolished him tonight. He’s for real and he’s in the line right now.” ...
"I still can't believe it," said Fighters.com’s second-ranked heavyweight and UFC champion Brock Lesnar (4-1) Wednesday morning on ESPN’s Sportscenter. Lesnar announced that the ailment that has prevented him from defending his title has been cured and he'll return to the Octagon in the summer of 2010. ...
Fighters.com’s second-ranked heavyweight and UFC champion Brock Lesnar (4-1) will appear on ESPN's Sportscenter Wednesday at 11:00 AM to reveal the status of his health after a potentially career-threatening illness has stalled his Octagon reign. ...
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a combination of different combat styles. Arts such as Brazilian Jiu jitsu and Muay Thai are centered around respect not only for the art but for your opponent as well. Recently we have seen some antics inside the cage and ring that lead this writer to believe we are watching the decline of sportsmanship in MMA. ...
