Potential Royce Gracie Opponents at UFC: Rio Include Dan Severn, Art Jimmerson, and Matt Hughes

Since the ufc announced their intentions for a Brazilian event in August, the talk surrounding Royce Gracie's possible inclusion on the card has been growing stronger. And the man that pretty much got the MMA truck rolling with UFC 1, UFC 2, and UFC 4 tournament wins has done nothing to squash those rumors since. Along the way, some unusual names have surfaced as willing opponents for Royce beyond the obvious Matt Hughes rumors. Yep, we're talking about fighters like Dan Severn and Art Jimmerson. ...

Against All Logic, Ken Shamrock Set to Fight October 16

For a man that once took great pains to live up to his moniker as “The World’s Most Dangerous Man”, Ken Shamrock has been redefining the term “rock bottom” for quite some time now. He’s won two out of his last ten fights: a victory over Kimo Leopoldo in 2004 that pretty much meant nothing, and a victory over the deceased Ross Clifton in 2009 that most definitely meant nothing (and was a fight in which Shamrock tested positive for steroids). In addition to that, try to fathom the following: the last time Ken Shamrock beat someone with actual name-value and actual skill was Dan Severn. In 1995. Over a decade and a half ago. And yet it was recently announced that Shamrock’s next fight will take place in October. ...

The Rise of The Mc-Blackbelt: Rashad Evans Receives Meaningless Belt

Fighters.com fourth-ranked light heavyweight "Sugar" Rashad Evans (14-1-1) received his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Rolles Gracie (2-0) Saturday before UFC 108. The awarding of black belts today in mixed martial arts (MMA) is becoming homogenized as many fighters seem to be able to get them as easy as a Big Mac. It is a disgrace to the fighting style of Jiu Jitsu, the black belt lineage and to Helio Gracie himself. ...

"The Beast" Beats Another Rookie

Fifty-four year old icon Dan Severn submitted Ian Asham by Kimura at the Iroquois MMA Championships II in Ohsweken, Ontario Saturday. "The Beast" rides a seven-fight win streak dating to a February 2007 rear naked choke submission of Clifford Coon at Caged Combat Championship Fights in Oklahoma. All but one of his seven victims had less than four professional fights.  Asham was making his professional debut. Severn raises his score to 83-15-7 with over 50 submission victories, most notably the keylock submission of Dave Beneteau at UFC 5 that gave Severn the championship and first belt awarded in the original MMA promotion. ...
