Brock Lesnar hasn't made a whole lot of friends since his inception into the world of mixed martial arts. However, his skill has been undeniable. While his wrestling pedigree and gargantuan size is a formidable deterrent against most opponents, Cain Velasquez was able to solve the puzzle, quickly at that. Velasquez seized the opportunity to exploit Lesnar at UFC 121 last month, handing him his first knockout loss in his career. The win earned Cain the UFC heavyweight championship, and with the victory, the Mexican-American also showed the chinks in the seemingly untethered armor of Lesnar. But, Antonio Silva, the former EliteXC heavyweight champion and current Strikeforce contender, says that he always knew that Brock was subpar to the rest of his class, and suggests that the Minnesota resident should go back to his professional wrestling days, entertaining the crowd with his "fake fighting" and leave the real fighting to the professionals. ...
Having to come back from a shocking and dramatic loss is something that more and more major-league top-of-the-card MMA fighters have to deal with nowadays. Now more than ever it seems that no perfect record is safe, no unbeaten streak lasts forever, no chin is infallible, and no great fighter is safe from being finished decisively. And former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Shane Carwin knows all too well what that’s like. Carwin was on the verge of becoming the next big UFC mega-star… until he succumbed to a second-round submission in his bout with returning champion Brock Lesnar. Now sitting on the sidelines and healing from surgery, “The Engineer” recently stated that he thinks that loss was one of the best things that could have happened to him as he continues to evolve into a well-rounded MMA fighter. ...
Dana White is controversial. The man has said and done so many controversial things that it’s pretty much a fact of life by now. One of his most-recent controversies involves the would-be trilogy match-up pitting Brock Lesnar against arch-rival Frank Mir for the third and last time. The rumored bout was announced by White himself, but in a recent interview, White said that an extremely negative fan reaction to this bout may force him to reconsider. ...
Frank Mir, some time ago, you mention the name Brock Lesnar in a mile radius of the former champion, and you could hear the limbs he would break in a raging stampede. To say that these two fighter have disdain towards one another would be a huge understatement. At least, that's what you would think, but Mir has since tampered his temper and found some solace in his career and where he stands in the heavyweight division. Both competitors have split victories, with Lesnar getting the better of the two in their last meeting at ufc 100, when the former NFL hopeful pounded Mir en route to a TKO victory inside of the second round. However, with Lesnar's recent setback against Velasquez, Mir see's a potential bout with Lesnar as a step down essentially in competition, given Brock's performance at UFC 121. ...
When there's smoke, there's fire. UFC President Dana White alongside color commentator Joe Rogan served as the special guest's during UFC 122's pre-fight Q&A session with the fans, in Oberhausen, Germany at the Konig Pilsener Arena. Earlier today, the head honcho spoke about potential match ups for his stars in the future, chief among those in question was the recently dethroned former UFC heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar. It had been rumored for sometime now that Lesnar could face Roy Nelson, the season 10 winner of "The Ultimate Fighter" in his next match up, however nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, according to White, Lesnar would like another shot at his arch rival (if mixed martial arts had arch rivals, these two would be the epitome) Frank Mir. ...
Roy Nelson and Brock Lesnar have a lot more in common than most people seem to think. Both have fought and lost to high-level fighters recently. Both are often criticized: Brock for his past as a World Wrestling Entertainment performer, “Big Country” for his sizable gut. But the major similarity is that both men apparently want to fight each other. In a recent interview, not only did Nelson reaffirm his willingness to fight the former ufc Heavyweight Champion, he was quick to criticize journalists that are critical of the proposed match as well as the two fighters themselves. ...
While doing my early-morning ritual of navigating the internet to get the latest juicy bit of ufc/MMA news, I came across a very interesting article on MMA Manifesto. The article lists the Ten Greatest UFC Pay-Per-View Draws of All-Time, according to estimates. It’s a fascinating piece, and it makes me wonder: what do these high-drawing athletes say about our sport? Here’s the first of a two-part article where I reveal what I think these fighters represent, and why they’ve made the UFC so many millions. ...
Much has been made of Brock Lesnar’s shockingly one-sided loss to Cain Velasquez at the recent UFC 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” event. Both critics and fans have been quick to shout their opinions from various rooftops, and the debate still rages on where Lesnar goes from here. One of the most common criticisms of Lesnar post-defeat revolves around a supposedly-lackluster training camp, but according to teammate and Bellator FC Heavyweight Champion Cole Konrad, those that don’t know Brock Lesnar have no right to comment on Brock Lesnar. ...
A large number of people are wondering what’s next for Brock Lesnar, the former UFC Heavyweight Champion that has just recently fallen so hard from grace after receiving a humbling beating courtesy of new Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez. Opinions seem to be mixed, as they always are when talks turn to Lesnar, with some boldly proclaiming that Lesnar will be champion again before 2011 is through while others believe he’ll go running back to the WWE with his tail between his legs and face the Undertaker at WrestleMania. Not only do I think that Brock Lesnar will stay in the UFC, I also think I have the perfect next opponent for him: the winner of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10, former IFL champion “Big Country” Roy Nelson. ...

ufc 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” was the latest in a long line of super-cards that once again proved why the UFC is the best promotion on the planet. In the main event, Cain Velasquez trounced Brock Lesnar and became the first Mexican champion in UFC history. The event didn’t rest on that laurel, however, as Jake Shields debuted successfully at 121 while Diego Sanchez and Paulo Thiago had a great fight, in addition to the always-controversial Tito Ortiz fighting and losing to Matt Hamill. The list of fighter suspensions as well as salaries have recently been made public, here are all the details. ...
Cain Velasquez is a mystery wrapped up in an enigma. The guy rarely ever smiles, keeps to himself, humble as all hell, but is still so... Fedor-esque I guess would be the best analogy to describe the proud Mexican-American, who recently claimed a life long goal in capturing the UFC's heavyweight championship. The American Kickboxing Academy's first UFC champion captured the title from the seemingly unbeatable Brock Lesnar, in a swift TKO victory last Saturday at UFC 121. Even after the win, Cain had stated in the post-fight press conference that while happy to cinch the victory, he wasn't completely pleased with his performance. Whoever knew it would take another Mexican to bring the smile back on Cain's face, and he did just that when Velasquez appeared as a guest on the "Lopez Tonight" show last night, where he was candid and all smiles. ...
Brock Lesnar seems to be running out of supporters at an exponential rate following his one-sided loss to Cain Velasquez at ufc 121, although what few supporters he does have are very vocal. Even I believe that Lesnar is far from done, for several reasons. Interestingly enough, the man who Lesnar scored the biggest win in his career to date against has come out in support of Brock. Despite the fact that Lesnar ruined his undefeated streak, Shane Carwin believes that the former UFC Heavyweight Champion is far from done as an elite-level Mixed Martial Artist. ...
UFC 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” was a great event filled with star-studded fighters and lots of up-and-coming talent, and further proved that the UFC likes to finish strong when it comes to their end-of-year activities. The UFC was more than happy to open their wallets after the event, and awarded their traditional “Of the Night” bonuses after the event, with four men pocketing an extra $70,000 for their spirited performances. Here are all the details, courtesy of Sherdog. ...
Really, guys? People are already predicting that Brock Lesnar is going to run screaming from MMA and back to the WWE after losing to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121? O ye, of little faith. It seems that everyone is jumping off of the Lesnar Express and onto the Cain Train following Cain Velasquez’s destruction of Lesnar, with many Lesnar cynics once again trotting out how Lesnar is a failure, can’t take a punch, is a horrible human being, and all manner of other unsavory statements. To which I say: you’ve got to be kidding me, right? Just off the top of my head, here are five reasons why Brock Lesnar will continue to be a major force in the UFC’s heavyweight division. ...
ufc 121 “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” is now in the history books, and what an event it was. We saw a new champion, close victories, big victories, and several very entertaining fights. 121 was filled to the brim with fighters that have all spent time at the top of the cards in recent years, but based on their performances at the event, it’s safe to say that some will be keeping that spot for the foreseeable future while others will be tumbling both down the cards and in relevancy. As is customary after every major PPV, here are my thoughts on what’s next for some of the big winners and losers at UFC 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez”. ...
ufc 121 “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” airs today live on Pay-Per-View from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. In the main event, Cain Velasquez looks to become the first Mexican UFC champion in promotional history when he takes on current UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. The event will also feature the promotional debut of former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jake Shields, and the promotional return of former long-reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz. Everyone’s talking about UFC 121, so here are my picks and predictions for the night’s major fights. ...

When it comes to the UFC and new partnerships, many of the pieces published nowadays focus on international markets: signing new TV deals, online deals, and things of that nature. But the war for mainstream acceptance in the US is far from over, and the UFC knows this full well. Recently the UFC announced an exclusive partnership with Boost Mobile, naming the cell phone company as the “official wireless partner” of the UFC. Here are all the details. ...
There is a saying in college and professional basketball that goes … “You can’t teach height.” The point being, is you can teach a player to shoot, dribble, pass, set picks, play defense, run a fast break, and all the basics of the sport, however you can’t teach a player to get taller. A seven-foot player has certain abilities and opportunities that are unique to him, such as, easy lay-ups, easy rebounds, passing above the zone D, blocking shots … due to height. Per MMA, I will now originate a like-minded term…
You can’t teach Brock!
Is Brock Lesnar a beloved figure in the mixed martial arts community? No. Far from it even. But controversial and polarizing, he is. The current UFC heavyweight champion has made no secret's as far as where he thinks he stands in "his" heavyweight division. After defeating the likes of notables Randy Couture, Frank Mir, and most recently Shane Carwin at UFC 116 in a dramatic comeback, Lesnar has made the case for himself to be the best in his class. However, some of his recent antics, though prompted by the promotion, has displayed anything but "class". ...
Brock Lesnar - the kid from Webster, South Dakota became a beast of a man that torched his way through the Division-1 wrestling world, cashed in with Vince McMahon and the WWE, took a stab at being a Viking in the NFL before calling up Dana White, getting his shot at MMA, and quickly snatching the UFC Heavyweight belt from the sports greatest legend in Randy Couture. For any of you living in a cave in Tora Bora the past three years, that is a quick snapshot of who Brock Lesnar is, how he arrived to be the biggest name in MMA and why he will sell out the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA this Saturday when he defends his title against Cain Velasquez. ...
“Ladies and gentleman, I stand before you a humble champion.” Those famous words were said by none other than UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar following his shocking come-from-behind submission win over Shane Carwin at UFC 116, an event which saw Lesnar return from a long layoff due to a potentially career-ending and life-threatening battle with diverticulitis. Lesnar was able to battle back from the brink without getting life-altering surgery in what he, his doctors, and UFC President Dana White all refer to as a “medical miracle”. But how has the former bad boy been living up to those words? According to a new interview, he’s been living up to them just fine. ...
If your a true wrestling fan, than the name Paul Heyman should be synonymous with everything you've grown to love or hate about the entertainment business. A loud, brash, cocky, and successful man, Heyman has produced some of the best moments in the World Wrestling Entertainment industry (or WWE, whatever you fancy), by introducing his persona on television sets all around the world--and of course, being pegged as "that dude" who first helped introduce current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, as "The Next Big Thing", while he was first making his mark in the promotion. Well, apparently, the former owner of the famed ECW company, would like to venture much farther than the ring, and Heyman is hoping to bring the same success he's adorned in the wrestling game, and bring the momentum to the cage. First order of business, EA Sports MMA. ...
As previously reported, Shane Carwin will be making his return at ufc 125, though no opponent was mentioned at the time of the reveal. Carwin himself, in fact, made the news of his return on his official Twitter page (@ShaneCarwin), and since then many have speculated who the former title challenger will be facing. In his last outing, Carwin attempted to unify his interim heavyweight title, which he earned with a first round knockout of former champion Frank Mir at UFC 111, when he tangled with the current title holder in Brock Lesnar, at UFC 116 last July. After a dominant first-round turned in, where "The Engineer" was able to drop Lesnar with a barrage of punches, eventually gassing himself when he unloaded a heavy dose of ground and pound that had left Brock on the ropes, but otherwise still in the fight. ...
Hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 alumni “Big Country” Roy Nelson, Brendan Schaub is gunning for top-level competition following a very dominant win-streak. The lone loss on his professional record was a loss to Nelson, and since then Schaub has been on fire, scoring two first-round TKO’s in dominating fashion. Schaub now stands poised for true Heavyweight relevancy when he meets Gabriel Gonzaga at ufc 121 in October. Recently, Schaub made some very interesting comments that make me believe that he may be biting off more than he can chew. ...
Direct from the ufc press office comes the final bout confirmations for UFC 121. UFC 121 features the headline fight between heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and challenger Cain Velasquez on October 23rd at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. This card certainly brings the goods with Lesnar topping the slate but it is the Spike TV bouts and undercard which really makes this night shine. Patrick Cote and Ryan Lawlor kick off the two fights on free TV while fans in the house will be treated to the always exicting Sam Stout battling Paul Taylor at lightweight and Gilbert Yvel brawling with Jon Madsen at heavyweight. Are you ready for BROCKTOBER? Read on for all the latest event details from the UFC. ...
As the year is coming closer to an end, the now annual World MMA Awards, which is hosted by Fighters Only Magazine, has recently announced their finalists for the December 1st event, which will take place once again in Las Vegas, Nev., which has become a hot bed for all things fighting related. The 2009 event opened up to a large audience, and has become a propellant in the mixed martial arts world, opening up the eyes to a mainstream audience, by the community taking leaps and bounds in order to legitimize itself as not only a legitimate sport, but one that deserves that same sort of recognition that most others receive, here in these United States. ...
There have been some pretty bright ideas in the creative think-tank behind the ufc. One of the most recent ideas has been showing UFC Pay-Per-Views in high definition in theaters. It all started at UFC 111, an event that saw Georges St. Pierre retain his UFC Welterweight Championship against Dan Hardy while Shane Carwin mercilessly manhandled Frank Mir to claim the UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship. And now the UFC is heading to a theater near you once again, as it’s been confirmed that UFC 121 will be the next UFC event to be broadcast live in over 300 select theaters. Read on for all the details as well as why I think the whole "UFC in theaters" idea is a bit of a mixed bag. ...
When Fedor Emelianenko speaks, everyone listens. Here are some of the major highlights that help clue us all in on Fedor’s future. ...
