Top 5 Opponents For Frank Mir: Brock Lesnar, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Shane Carwin All Make The List

Former UFC Heavyweight and Interim Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir finds himself at a career crossroads once again. Mir is on a two-fight win-streak with one stoppage, but that one stoppage came after three very tedious rounds of non-action against Mirko Filipovic. His recent three-round manhandling of Roy Nelson has also been subject to criticism. So, where does Frank Mir rank in the UFC’s increasingly-crowded upper-echelon? Here are five opponents that would really prove whether or not Mir will be fighting for a championship anytime soon. ...

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Faces A Tough Test In His Return, Draws Brendan Schaub At UFC 134 In Brazil

As the pivotal date draws ever-closer, the UFC’s first event in Brazil in over a decade is quickly becoming one of the year’s can’t-miss fight cards. Featuring the likes of Anderson Silva, Mauricio Rua, and more, the UFC’s return to Brazil looks to feature some of the company’s best and most-dominant Brazilians. And UFC 134 just received a big boost: former PRIDE Heavyweight Champion and UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is now slated to compete on the card, fighting against fast-rising Heavyweight and former “Ultimate Fighter” cast member Brendan Schaub. Here are all the details. ...

If you didn't already know, Koch, Schaub, Njokuani and Barboza pocketed $70k in "Fight Night" bonuses for UFC 128

While we are a few days removed from UFC 128 this past weekend, some of you may or may not already know that just a handful of fighters were "balling" post-fight. While most of the attention has been made toward the new light heavyweight champion, Jon "Bones" Jones, he was not a fighter that earned an additional bonus when it came to the "Fight Night" awards. In fact, three preliminary fighters were the large talk of the show, and even Brendan Schaub snuck a peak at bonus infamy after he did work on the main-card opposite of legend and his idol, Mikro "Cro Cop". ...

Best Of The Rest: UFC 128 "Shogun vs. Jones"
Best Of The Rest: UFC 128 "Shogun vs. Jones"

Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another new edition of “Best of the Rest”! I really enjoy taking the time to give my detailed thoughts on a show after watching it, but after the serious discussion and debate I’ll raise in topics like “Top 5 Best Moments” and “Best Performance of the Night”, I think it’d be nice to have a tongue-in-cheek topic where I give out some other “awards”. It’s all in good fun, so don’t take any of it too seriously. So let’s dive right into this latest edition, now featuring UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones”. ...

Top 5 Best Moments Of UFC 128: "Shogun vs. Jones"

At UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones”, names were made and stars were crushed. Veteran talent fell to hot prospects in two major match-ups, while the lighter-weight fighters shined in big and very entertaining bouts. But which stars shined brightest, and what moments will fans be talking about in the following weeks? Here’s my take on the matter: my top 5 best moments of UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones”. ...

What's Next For The Winners And Losers Of UFC 128: "Shogun vs. Jones"?

UFC 128 will likely be talked about for many months to come, whether it’s due to Mirko Cro Cop getting KO’d again, Jim Miller staking his claim atop the UFC’s Lightweight division, or the obvious: Jon Jones destroying Mauricio Rua. But now once again it’s time to ask: what’s next? What does the future hold after so much seems to have changed? Here’s my answer to just that: a new edition of my “What’s Next for the Winners and Losers” series of articles, now featuring UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones”. ...

It was a night that saw four free preliminary fights, several amazing knockouts, and the ascension of several fighters to top-division status. And in the main event, Jon Jones kick-started “The Era of Bones” by utterly dominating Mauricio Rua. Here are the full results as well as some early commentary on UFC 128: “Shogun vs. Jones”. ...

UFC 128: Breaking down Mirko 'Cro Cop' vs. Brendan Schaub
UFC 128: Breaking down Mirko 'Cro Cop' vs. Brendan Schaub

At UFC 128, former PRIDE superstar Mirko "Cro Cop" will be heading into the cage once again to prove that he still among the elite in his class. For many years, Mirko was considered one of the top-3 fighters in the heavyweight division, being the only man to defeat Josh Barnett three times throughout his illustrious career, the Croation will once again have the chance to prove himself and before all of his fans this weekend when he takes on another hungry young up-and-comer in Brendan Schaub, who with a convincing win over Mirko could be poised for a title shot in the immediate future. ...

Brendan Schaub Wants Mirko Cro Cop's Head, And He'll Probably Get It

Brendan Schaub is at a very interesting point in his career. Schaub’s record stands at 7-1, with six first-round (T)KO wins. Three of those wins occurred under the one-minute mark, the other three barely passed it. And yet Schaub’s defining UFC moment still seems to be his TKO loss to Roy Nelson. However, as he nears a pivotal fight with Mirko Filipovic, Schaub is ready to put the past behind him and seems to have figured out the best way to combat the PRIDE FC legend and feared Croatian striker: respect him enough to try and viciously separate him from consciousness. ...

Mirko "Cro Cop" vs. Brendan Schaub now official for UFC 128 in March

A heavyweight match up is now officially heading to New Jersey in March, as former PRIDE star Mirko "Cro Cop" will be squaring off against the heavy-handed up-and-comer, Brendan Schaub. The fight has been rumored for nearly a week now, though UFC officials have since solidified the match up earlier today for the March pay-per-view event. Filipovic, the 2006 Pride Open-Weight Grand Prix Champion, was last inside the octagon when he was pitted against former champion Frank Mir. Though a Jiu-Jitsu specialist, Mir was unable to work the fight to the mat, and after an uninspired two-plus rounds turned in, Frank eventually connected on a hard knee to the head, knocking out the Croatian in the waning moments of the September fight. ...

Brendan Schaub vs. Mirko "Cro Cop" on deck for UFC 128
Brendan Schaub vs. Mirko "Cro Cop" on deck for UFC 128

After promising a strong return for the new year and washing away any talk of an immediate retirement plan, former PRIDE Open Weight Grand Prix Champion Mirko Filipovic, or rather "Cro Cop" will be returning to the octagon this March when he takes on another young gun in the heavyweight division. The Croatian heavyweight recently spoke with a local television program where he discussed his next plans in his mixed martial arts career, even claiming that 2011 will be his year, and will be much better than 2006 where he defeated the likes of Hidehiko Yoshida, Wanderlei Silva, and Josh Barnett all in a three-month span. However coming off of a loss to former heavyweight champion Frank Mir at UFC 119 last September, a knockout at that, did little to help people from believing that Mirko's best years are behind him and prospect Brendan Schaub will be there to remind 'Cro Cop' as such. ...

Will It Be Stefan Struve or Mirko Cro Cop? New Reports Indicate That Brendan Schaub Could Fight Either One

It looks as if surging Heavyweight Brendan Schaub will have to continue to wait to get his shot at a UFC champion, past or present. Early rumors speculated that Schaub would meet former champion and submission specialist Frank Mir sometime in early 2011, but according to new reports, that fight has failed to materialize. Instead, words is coming down from several sources that Schaub’s next opponent will be Stefan Struve, who recently TKO’d Sean McCorkle in a battle of giants. But in a bit of breaking news, there’s also a new rumor that says that Schaub will be fighting Mirko Filipovic. Here are all the details on what is turning into quite an interesting story. ...

With Both Fighting for Relevancy and Respect, Frank Mir vs. Brendan Schaub Tentatively Scheduled

Frank Mir has faced a long and difficult road since returning to the UFC in 2006 after recovering from a gruesome motorcycle accident. Since then, Mir has fought to the top of the Heavyweight division, at one time becoming the UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion. Since that big win over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 92, Mir has gone 2-2 with both losses by (T)KO. Most recently, Mir competed in a horrible three-round snooze-fest against formerly-feared striker Mirko Filipovic that saw Mir pick up the last-minute KO win. After a strong negative reaction towards a possible third encounter with Brock Lesnar, it appears that rising Heavyweight star and former “Ultimate Fighter” cast member Brendan Schaub will be the next man to challenge Frank Mir. Here are all the details. ...

Former title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga released by UFC
Former title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga released by UFC

Just three years ago, it looked like Gabriel Gonzaga will tear the UFC's heavyweight division a new limb. Coupled with his world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills and punch prowess, it looked like the sky was the limit for the 31 year old. But after suffering back-to-back losses to Junior dos Santos and Brendan Schaub in his most recent outings, the UFC decided to cut their losses and sent the Brazilian packing. After vying for the promotion's heavyweight strap in 2007 against then champion Randy Couture (unsuccessfully, Gonzaga suffered a third-round TKO loss) Gabriel would go on to compile an overall record of 3-4 over his next seven fights. ...

Mirko Cro Cop is Ready to Replace Shane Carwin... but Should He?

It’s recently been revealed that ufc knockout artist Shane Carwin has opted out of his fight with Roy Nelson at UFC 125 due to back problems that may or may not require corrective surgery, and that the UFC is still scrambling to find him a replacement opponent. This would have been Shane Carwin’s first fight after being linked to a nationwide steroids conspiracy. While the hunt for a replacement continues, one man has already voluntarily stepped up and asked to replace the heavy-handed striker. And he’s one of the most famous strikers in all of Mixed Martial Arts: Mirko Filipovic. ...

UFC 121: "Lesnar vs. Velasquez" Salaries and Suspensions Released

ufc 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” was the latest in a long line of super-cards that once again proved why the UFC is the best promotion on the planet. In the main event, Cain Velasquez trounced Brock Lesnar and became the first Mexican champion in UFC history. The event didn’t rest on that laurel, however, as Jake Shields debuted successfully at 121 while Diego Sanchez and Paulo Thiago had a great fight, in addition to the always-controversial Tito Ortiz fighting and losing to Matt Hamill. The list of fighter suspensions as well as salaries have recently been made public, here are all the details. ...

UFC Hands Out Four $70,000 Bonuses for UFC 121: "Lesnar vs. Velasquez"

UFC 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” was a great event filled with star-studded fighters and lots of up-and-coming talent, and further proved that the UFC likes to finish strong when it comes to their end-of-year activities. The UFC was more than happy to open their wallets after the event, and awarded their traditional “Of the Night” bonuses after the event, with four men pocketing an extra $70,000 for their spirited performances. Here are all the details, courtesy of Sherdog. ...

What's Next for the Winners and Losers of UFC 121: "Lesnar vs. Velasquez"?

ufc 121 “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” is now in the history books, and what an event it was. We saw a new champion, close victories, big victories, and several very entertaining fights. 121 was filled to the brim with fighters that have all spent time at the top of the cards in recent years, but based on their performances at the event, it’s safe to say that some will be keeping that spot for the foreseeable future while others will be tumbling both down the cards and in relevancy. As is customary after every major PPV, here are my thoughts on what’s next for some of the big winners and losers at UFC 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez”. ...

The event will also feature the promotional debut of former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jake Shields, and the promotional return of former long-reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz. Everyone’s talking about UFC 121, so here are my picks and predictions for the night’s major fights. ...

Shane Carwin vs Roy Nelson at UFC 125
Shane Carwin vs Roy Nelson at UFC 125

As previously reported, Shane Carwin will be making his return at ufc 125, though no opponent was mentioned at the time of the reveal. Carwin himself, in fact, made the news of his return on his official Twitter page (@ShaneCarwin), and since then many have speculated who the former title challenger will be facing. In his last outing, Carwin attempted to unify his interim heavyweight title, which he earned with a first round knockout of former champion Frank Mir at UFC 111, when he tangled with the current title holder in Brock Lesnar, at UFC 116 last July. After a dominant first-round turned in, where "The Engineer" was able to drop Lesnar with a barrage of punches, eventually gassing himself when he unloaded a heavy dose of ground and pound that had left Brock on the ropes, but otherwise still in the fight. ...

Not Only is Brendan Schaub Ready for Top-Five Competition, He Knows He'll Beat Gabriel Gonzaga

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 alumni “Big Country” Roy Nelson, Brendan Schaub is gunning for top-level competition following a very dominant win-streak. The lone loss on his professional record was a loss to Nelson, and since then Schaub has been on fire, scoring two first-round TKO’s in dominating fashion. Schaub now stands poised for true Heavyweight relevancy when he meets Gabriel Gonzaga at ufc 121 in October. Recently, Schaub made some very interesting comments that make me believe that he may be biting off more than he can chew. ...

UFC 121 "Lesnar vs. Velasquez" Officially Announced

The Ultimate Fighting Championship recently released the official lineup for their upcoming UFC 121 event, and it should come as no surprise that Brock Lesnar defending his UFC Heavyweight Championship against Cain Velasquez has taken center stage as the show’s main event. Brock Lesnar was last seen pulling off one of the biggest, best comebacks of 2010, absorbing all former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Shane Carwin had to give him for five full minutes, then submitting Carwin via Arm Triangle Choke early in the second round. Cain Velasquez’s last fight saw him demolish the once-unbreakable chin of PRIDE FC legend Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira. UFC 121 will take place October 23 in Anaheim, California, and features a star-studded main card in addition to the big-money main event. ...

Brendan Schaub vs. Gabriel Gonzaga Set for UFC 121

In the constantly-improving Heavyweight division of the UFC, big match-ups are starting to become the norm rather than the exception. Recently announced for UFC 121 in Anaheim, California is another very interesting Heavyweight match-up that has the potential to dramatically change the careers of both fighters involved. It’s Brendan Schaub vs. Gabriel Gonzaga, and it just might be one of the sleeper hits of the year. Here’s why. ...

Throughout season ten of SpikeTV's The Ultimate Fighter, right through “Big Country” Roy Nelson's (14-4) knockout of Brendan Schaub (3-1) at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale in Las Vegas Saturday night, UFC President Dana White paid Nelson distinctly less respect than any of the fighters in the competition. White said Nelson has "the worst physique in professional sports" and complained about Nelson's confidence throughout the competition. ...
