Today, all but one of the competitors competing under the Strikeforce banner for tomorrow’s event, made the required weight limit for their respective bouts.

A last minute addition to this Saturday’s Strikeforce event, Benji Radach will return to the cage when he takes on Ovince St. Preux in a light-heavyweight match up.

UFC veteran Radach will return to action for the first time since a knockout loss to Scott Smith in April of 2009. He has stayed out of action for better part of 2010 due to mounting injuries, his last being a case of staph which infected his chest shortly after Benji had undergone surgery on a torn pectoral muscle.

Now, fighting as a light heavyweight for the first time in his career, Radach will return to action on just six-days notice against budding prospect, St. Preux.

Ovince was last seen in action at Strikeforce Challengers 12 when he took on veteran Antwain Britt on the main-card. The Haitian native walked away with the unanimous decision victory over Britt, and set himself up for the big time of the Strikeforce elite. Well Ovince, look no further.

Just as the Challenger Series is designed to find the best up and coming prospects of the new era of mixed martial arts, Strikeforce is showing their faith in Ovince when they paired him up with Benji, a perennial contender in any organization he’s in. St. Preux, 8-4 as a professional will put his skills to the test against Radach’s 19-5 record which spans nearly 10 years in the game.

“Razor” holds notable victories over the likes of UFC vets Brian Foster, Gerald Harris, and former EliteXC champ Murilo Rua–all by some form of knockout.

“Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu” takes place this Saturday at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The addition of Radach and St. Preux comes in wake of the recent loss of Herschel Walker from the main card, who bowed out of his heavyweight tilt against Scott Carson due to injury.

So, MMA peeps, what do you make of the last minute addition to the Strikeforce card for this Saturday? The short-notice call should benefit Ovince, who was last in action on the 19th of Nov. Radach though should never be counted out, as his knockout power is the equalizer in all of his fights. Of his 19 wins, 15 of those have come by way of knockout. Sound off in the comment section below.

It is still one of the great moments in UFC history, at the Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale in 2006, as Pete Sell had Scott Smith stumbling and ready to fall due to a crippling body shot. Rising from a bent cowering position, Smith recovered just enough to surprise Sell with a massive right hand as Sell was rushing in to finish a badly hurt Smith. Sell was suddenly out cold on the mat and Smith was awarded the victory while still in agony from Sell’s original body blow.

This moment may have started the “legend” of Scott Simth, but as fans have learned, it was just the beginning. He has taken the Mohammed Ali “rope a dope” style to new levels, and was nearly finished against Benji Radach and Cung Le only to rise from near cage death to land devastating blows and pull victory from the edge of defeat, leaving fans with jaws dropped in stunned awe.

Now, “Hands of Steel” may be looking in the mirror when he stands across the Strikeforce cage from Paul Daley on December 4th in St. Louis. Daley has his own list of knocked silly opponents who dared to stand with him, including UFC studs – Martin Kampmann and Dustin Hazlett. On Saturday, two of the heaviest handed fighters in all of MMA square off and Smith thinks it will be a surprise if he spends much time with his back on the mat.

“I am definitely looking for a standup fight, but this is mixed martial arts so I have to be prepared for anything. So, I am working all aspects of my game, but I definitely plan on this being a slug fest.”

Aside from dealing with the dynamite in Paul Daley’s hands, Smith may be most anxious about getting his body down to 170lbs for the first time.

“A big part of the decision is that I have been lazy at getting away with making 185. I’ve been a little soft a couple of times. Fighting at 170 has forced me to diet and that has been the worst part of my training. Three weeks after my last fight I was walking around at 189, but I didn’t think there was any reason that I couldn’t cut down to 170, so I’ve been walking around at about 185, eating a ton of healthy food. I think the cut should be good. I might be crying about it on the day of weight-ins but I don’t think there is any reason why I shouldn’t be fighting at 170.”

By witness of Smith’s passion for the dramatic over his career, it is no surprise he welcomed the chance to drop to 170. Not for the potentially painful cut, but for the chance to provide another all out, fists flying war with a like minded pugilist in Paul “Cemtex” Daley.

“I just look for these exciting fights and a fight with Paul Daley is an exciting fight. That is more important to me that a title fight. I know when me and Daley fight we are going to put on a show and the fans are going to like watching. Those are the type of fights I look for.

Saturday December, 4th is a day sports fans will be flooded with entertainment options from watching Oregon and Auburn face their final hurdles to qualify for the national title game in college football, to UFC stars Demian Meia, Kendall Grove and Stephan Bonnar in action on Spike TV. However the sports event with the most potential for pure drama and excitement will go down on Showtime when Scott Smith and Paul Daley hit the Strikeforce cage in St. Louis.

“Yeah, I think we are kind of made for each other. We are two guys who like to go banging and come at each other. I think this has a fight of the night potential. When I got the call to fight Paul Daley I got excited. I think this fight will be fun.”

Thoughts MMA fans … are you as excited for this brawl as I am?

While Paul Daley‘s position with Strikeforce has been up in the air for the most part, some citing the British welterweight was signed to a 6-fight deal, others saying he has yet to sign–it look’s like the cat is out of the bag now.

Not only is Daley officially signed with the organization, but he is set to make his promotional debut in a fight that has fireworks and knockout written all over it.

As previously reported, Scott Smith was to make his return to the cage come December 4, in what will actually be his welterweight debut, when he was expected to face 6-1 Jesse Finney, however, en-light of Daley signing with the organization recently, Strikeforce opted for the Smith-Daley bout in what will prove to be not only a top-contenders bout in a welterweight division which desperately needs one, but will also serve as a punch-you-in-the-face-till-you-fall, kind of fight.

After a lengthy career at middleweight which witnessed some of the greatest knockouts of Smith’s career, including former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le, and UFC veterans Benji Radach and Pete Sell, Smith will be making the drop to the welterweight division for the first time, after beginning his career nearly 10 years ago as a heavyweight.

Daley, a fellow UFC veteran who was exonerated from the promotion after a post-fight punch in unsportsmanlike conduct against Josh Koscheck back at UFC 113, most recently picked up his second consecutive victory when he bested veteran Jorge Masvidal at Shark Fights 13, winning by unanimous decision.

If someone doesn’t get knocked out in this fight, then there is something truly amiss in the world today. An exciting addition to a stacked December card, is exactly what the fans had ordered.

MMA peeps, what do you think of the addition of this bout? Who do you think will take it, and is anyone else surprised that Smith is deciding to move to welterweight, considering he’s one of the bigger 185′ers? Sound off in the comments section below.

For someone who once approached the upcoming video game “EA Sports MMA” with an incredible amount of hesitation, now more and more I’m thinking that October 19 can’t get here soon enough. In order to generate interest and encourage fans to open their wallets and put down a pre-order, EA Sports is revealing the entire roster of the game on a week-by-week, division-by-division basis. The Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight roster has already been revealed, and recently the Middleweights took center stage. EA Sports also recently revealed a teaser image of a famous venue that has yet to see a Mixed Martial Arts event.

But first, here’s how the Middleweight roster breaks down. Looking at the title picture from left to right, the EA Sports Middleweight roster features Benji Radach, Lyman Good, Matt Lindland, Luke Rockhold, Frank Trigg, Joe Riggs, Kazuo Misaki, Scott Smith, Murilo Rua, Tim Kennedy, Pat Miletich, Jake Shields, Nick Thompson, Melvin Manhoef, Robbie Lawler, Dan Henderson, Gegard Mousasi, Jason Miller, Cung Le, Nick Diaz, Frank Shamrock, and Ronaldo Souza.

It should be noted that eight fighters in the Middleweight division are carry-overs from the already-announced Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight divisions. There’s some debate going around the internet gaming forums as to whether or not this is a cheap move in order to cut the time down on coding and creating different fighters, or a good way to ensure quality cross-division super-fights. I personally think it’s a little of both: I think the roster is a little limited, but the fact that you can play as your favorite fighter in several different weight classes mostly balances that out. Plus, with download-a-fighter being included, I think this game’s roster will be massive once people start creating famous MMA fighters are putting them online for anybody and everybody to download.

Much like the UFC including the famous Madison Square Garden in their “UFC Undisputed” games, it’s recently been confirmed that EA Sports MMA will have the Cowboys Stadium as an in-game venue despite the fact that a major Mixed Martial Arts event has never been booked there. An online image has already surfaced, which you can view here. Even as a huge fan of UFC Undisputed 2009, I think Madison Square Garden was really under-played in both UFC 2009 and 2010. Not so with Cowboys Stadium- the images revealed so far look downright amazing. I may actually get goosebumps when my Create-a-Fighter either defends or tries to get at the Strikeforce Championship in that mega-arena.

The last time I was this excited for a sports game, my hopes met quite the rude awakening. So, even with all the hype I’m buying into, I know that there’s still a chance for EA Sports MMA to let me down in much the same way that UFC Undisputed 2010 let me down. But until that day, I have to say…this is shaping up to be a genre-defining game. Every time I hear something new about this game, it’s something I think I could find myself enjoying immensely. When October 19 hits, I’ve got a pretty good feeling that there’s going to be a new Undisputed Champion of Mixed Martial Arts video games.

But what about you, fans and friends? How high would you rate your anticipation of “EA Sports MMA”?

Radach is expected to earn an EliteXC title shot versus fourth-ranked “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler (16-4).

“Man, I hit him so hard a lot of times,” Radach said after the referee pushed him off of Rua after landing four unanswered punches to Rua’s head as he lie on the mat.

“Ninja” had stumbled after launching a flying knee and Radach fed him a straight right, then three right hooks.

The finish resembled the entire fight: Radach landing sledgehammers to Rua’s head.

Rua was most successful on the mat in the first round when he worked a Kimura, then nearly locked in a heel hook until Radach rolled free.
