Bellator's Megumi Fujii...greatest fighter of all time?
Bellator's Megumi Fujii...greatest fighter of all time?

Many of the casual fans still may not know who Megumi Fujii is. I've heard of her, but never really got to know who she was until Bellator initiated it's 115-pound women's tournament, then everyone (including myself) got to witness the talk of the town, in "Mega Megu". A life long competitor, Fujii is the only fighter, male of female, to go undefeated in 22 professional fights. Her record ties her up with mixed martial legend Bas Rutten for what is considered to be the longest undefeated streak, however, even the great "El Guapo" had been defeated four times in his earlier days, whereas Fujii has yet to taste defeat. A black belt in Judo and Jujutsu (not Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, just Jujutsu), coupled with an evolving stand up arsenal, Fujii is poised to make the case for herself in being the greatest fighter of all time. ...

Cole Konrad becomes first Bellator Heavyweight Champion
Cole Konrad becomes first Bellator Heavyweight Champion

While expectations have been high, maybe too high, on Cole Konrad since his inception into the mixed martial arts world, it looks that the former two-time NCAA champion has finally arrived. After hearing rave reviews of his obvious potential from fellow wrestlers turned mixed martial arts stars, including former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion "King" Mo, and current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, it was Konrad who put any doubters to rest when he was able to submit veteran Neil Grove, inside of the first round at Bellator 32, last night. ...

Huerta relying on fight with Alvarez to Revive Career
Huerta relying on fight with Alvarez to Revive Career

The people's champion, Roger Huerta has been in the minds of all media and fans alike with his recent accolades. With his drubbing of an alleged 220-pound ex-Texas Longhorn football player, who knocked out a woman outside of a bar (to whom Roger was avenging), Huerta has virtually all but erased his recent struggles in his mixed martial arts career. After a strong run in the UFC, where Roger racked up an impressive 6-2 record, he left the worlds largest organization in favor of the upstart promotion, Bellator Fighting Championships. An early favorite to become the second season lightweight tournament finalist, Roger's rise to the top was cut short by lightweight prospect Pat Curran (UFC and WEC veteran Jeff Curran's cousin). Now, losing the last 3 of his last 4 fights, Huerta knows that his next scheduled bout against Eddie Alvarez, in a non-title fight on Oct. 21 is either do-or-die for his career. ...

Eddie Alvarez confronts Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker
Eddie Alvarez confronts Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker

Bellator lightweight champion is a force to reckoned with in his weight class. After an illuminated run in Japan, where Alvarez has picked up some of the biggest wins of his career, which includes victories over the likes of former DREAM lightweight champion Joachim Hansen, former Shooto champion Tatsuya Kawajiri and current DEEP lightweight champion Katsunori Kikuno. Not impressed? En route to Bellator gold, he was able to submit all three of his opponents, including the heralded Toby Imada, a Jiu-Jitsu whiz who became an internet sensation with his inverted triangle choke over lightweight notable Jorge Masvidal, which garnered Imada the "Submission of the Year" on several publications, including a trophy award at the 2009 World MMA Awards, hosted by Fighters Only. So when Alvarez, 26, heard word that Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez has called him out on numerous occasions, the Philly fighter didn't take too kindly to it. ...

2010 World MMA Awards; Nominees widdled down and we have our Finalists

As the year is coming closer to an end, the now annual World MMA Awards, which is hosted by Fighters Only Magazine, has recently announced their finalists for the December 1st event, which will take place once again in Las Vegas, Nev., which has become a hot bed for all things fighting related. The 2009 event opened up to a large audience, and has become a propellant in the mixed martial arts world, opening up the eyes to a mainstream audience, by the community taking leaps and bounds in order to legitimize itself as not only a legitimate sport, but one that deserves that same sort of recognition that most others receive, here in these United States. ...

Joe Soto Career on the line with Severely Detached Retina
Joe Soto Career on the line with Severely Detached Retina

Former Bellator featherweight champion Joe Soto just can't catch any breaks. Once adorned as one of the best featherweights in the world, Soto's fairytale run towards the title in Bellator came to an abrupt halt by one Mr. Joe Warren. The Olympian hopeful was battered in the first round when the two dynamic competitors met at Bellator 27 on September 2, with the title up for grabs. Every time Warren came forward engaging Soto to clinch, Joe stung him with hooks and uppercuts in succession. It looked like it was only just a matter of time, before Warren pulled out a hail mary right hook which clipped Soto, followed with punches, a big knee against the fence and another punch that sent Soto to sleep, and claimed Warren the biggest win of his career, and a shiny belt to show for his efforts. Now, after losing his title, his mother in a car accident last Christmas, Soto may now be losing vision in his eye following a detached retina. ...

Cheer Up, Efrain. Strikeforce and Bellator are Interested!
Cheer Up, Efrain. Strikeforce and Bellator are Interested!

The future looked bright for the season 8 winner of "The Ultimate Fighter", Efrain Escudero. After laying claim as the new lightweight champion of his season, and a dominant win turned in at the shows finale against fellow finalist, Phillipe Nover, Escudero now finds himself in the same situation as Nover--he's been pink slipped by the UFC. After claiming the TUF title in December of 2008, injuries left "Hecho en Mexico" out of action until September of 2009, where he came in overweight for a lightweight match up against fellow TUF veteran Cole Miller. While he was able to pick up the win, an impressive knockout victory inside of the first round, this was the start of what UFC President Dana White indicated as "complacency" for Efrain. ...

Joe Warren vs Michihiro Omigawa at DREAM 16--CANCELLED

Olympic Wrestling hopeful and current Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren was scheduled to meet fellow standout Michihiro Omigawa at DREAM 16. The bout was to determine a new top contender, conceivably, for the Japanese promotion's 139-pound strap, however due to some on going talks with his manager concerning Warren's safety. ...

Roger Huerta Has No Regrets Regarding His Infamous Street Brawl

For many reasons, Roger Huerta has become a pretty famous MMA star. He had a really good run in the ufc, competing against some of the best Lightweight talent in the world and putting on some really amazing performances in the process. He was the first Mixed Martial Artist to ever grace the cover of Sports Illustrated. He’s a budding actor and had a role in the movie adaptation of the popular video game franchise “Tekken”. But most recently, “El Matador” is most famous for literally stomping a drunk man’s face in after said man sucker-punched a woman and tried to do the same to Huerta. Huerta recently spoke to notorious celebrity gossip website TMZ, who first broke the story of Roger Huerta’s outside-the-bar brawl in the first place, and said that he has no regrets. I in turn don’t regret supporting him for his actions. ...

Video Surfaces Online of Ex-UFC Fighter Roger Huerta Getting Involved in a Street Brawl

In what will undoubtedly go down as one of the stupidest things you could ever possibly do, a video has surfaced of a drunken club-goer picking a fight with former UFC Lightweight and current Bellator FC fighter Roger Huerta. The famous celebrity gossip website TMZ was the first to report that “El Matador” was spotted getting into a bloody brawl last weekend outside of an Austin, Texas bar. A video has surfaced online of the altercation, and take a guess as to who came out on the winning side and who ended up eating pavement. Here’s how it all went down. ...

Bellator: Pat Curran Wins Tournament; Megumi Fujii Scores TKO

Pat Curran (12-3) entered the night as an underdog yet again but pulled off a split decision, some are calling controversial, victory over Toby Imada (26-15) to win the lightweight tournament. We also saw Megumi Fujii (20-0) get her first TKO victory and become the only fighter that Fighters.com is aware of to go 20-0. ...

Renzo Gracie Student,Dave Branch, Signs with UFC

Two-time Bellator Fighting Championships fighter and Renzo Gracie (13-7-1) student Dave Branch (6-0) has signed a four-fight deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). Renzo Gracie announced the news about his black belt student making his way into the UFC. Branch is an exciting fighter who turned pro in 2007 and since then has a record of 6-0 all coming via stoppage. Three were technical knock out (TKO) victories and the other three were submission wins. It is rare to see a jiu jitsu black belt who also possesses good striking and knock out power so early on in his MMA career. This makes Branch a unique prospect who could end up making some big waves in the UFC considering their ability and willingness to bring a fighter along slowly. Stay tuned to Fighters.com to find out when Dave will be fighting and who is first opponent inside the Octagon will become. ...

This Saturday Strikeforce is once again presenting us with another event, Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery. The main event is Strikeforce champion "Demolition Man" Alistair Overeem (30-11) versus Fighters.com sixth-ranked heavyweight Brett Rogers (10-1). This fight is a microcosm of the problem the organization has with lack of depth and proper marketing which could bring the end of Strikeforce in the near future. ...

Yesterday on MMA Gospel Radio we had a massive three hour show with five amazing guests, one of which was Ryan Thomas (12-4) who just recently lost via one of the worst stoppages in mixed martial arts (MMA) history. He lost to Ben Askren (4-0) via a non verbal submission due to an arm triangle. The referee thought he had gone out when he was not even close to being put to sleep. What follows is MMA Gospel's interview with Ryan, done by Gary Friedman, that aired last night. This is the first installment of that amazing interview. ...
