From top to bottom, ufc 133 has been a card plagued with problems. In the grand tradition of once-great cards that fall apart without a single fighter ever walking into the cage, the co-main event of UFC 133 is now off of the table. This is in addition to the two past instances where the main event changed. It's recently been revealed that Antonio Rogerio Nogueira was forced to pull out of his UFC 133 fight against Rich Franklin. Following that announcement the UFC scrambled and ultimately were unable to find a replacement opponent for the former UFC Middleweight Champion. It’s now been confirmed that Franklin has been taken off of the card as well and the new UFC 133 co-main event will feature Vitor Belfort vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama. Here are all the details. ...
Although it was once supposed to be called “Evans vs. Jones” and even "Aldo vs. Mendes", UFC 133 “Evans vs. Davis” has transformed itself into quite the respectable card. After sitting on the sidelines for a very long time in hopes that this exact thing wouldn’t happen, Rashad Evans puts his shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship on the line while another man (Quinton Jackson) gets a shot at the championship. The fight card is also filled with several good veteran talents, from Antonio Rogerio Nogueira to Jorge Rivera to Vladimir Matyushenko. Barring any injuries from now until fight-time, here’s the complete line-up to UFC 133 as well as some of my early reactions. ...
At UFC 132, we barred witness to the seeming resurrection of Tito Ortiz. Ortiz came out and demolished Ryan Bader, once viewed as a top prospect, with shocking ease. Coming into this fight, it seemed as if Ortiz was destined for failure and would leave UFC 132 a defeated and ultimately retired fighter. But now, many people are wondering what’s next for “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy”. Here’s my answer to just that: the top 5 opponents for Tito Ortiz. ...
Last Saturday, we saw a changing of the guard in the mixed martial arts world, when Phil Davis aka "Mr. Wonderful" earned a hard-fought decision win over legend and former PRIDE star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, brother to former ufc heavyweight champion "Minotauro". And while Rogerio succumbed his second loss inside the octagon, he still managed to pull in the largest base salary of all fighters on the card, which included the likes of former contenders Dan Hardy and Anthony Johnson also in action. ...
While Phil Davis has been lauded as a top prospect in the light heavyweight division for some time, few people gave "Mr. Wonderful" the benefit of the doubt that he would become a world beater so early in his career. However, Davis has done just that, as he recorded unarguably the biggest win of his career when he took on the former PRIDE star, and perennial top-10 fighter Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Despite contentious moments throughout the bout, Davis managed to get the job done and earn the decision win. ...
As tonight's combatants will soon enter the cage for arguably the most stacked UFC Fight Night card to date, everyone had their preliminary pre-fight preparations (say that five times fast) in order. With that said, most of the attention shared on the weigh-in ceremony largely surrounded the seemingly gargantuan Anthony Johnson, whom in the past has had a difficult time cutting to the welterweight limit of 170-pounds. However, today he looked as lean and svelte as he ever has before, as did everyone else who hit the scales, as not one fighter had an particular issue making their own specific weight class. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome back to the latest entry in my “5 Reasons Why” series of columns. For the first part, detailing five reasons why Phil Davis could beat Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, please click here. Now it’s time to focus on the opposite: here are five reasons why Antonio Rogerio Nogueira could beat Phil Davis. Let’s get to it. ...
We’re now only a day away from UFC Fight Night 24: “Nogueira vs. Davis”, a free night of fights on Spike TV. With several interesting match-ups set to go down, this could be one of the best “Fight Night” cards of the year. The main event is a very intriguing match-up between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Phil Davis. I think this fight has a lot of potential, and I think both men pose several very real threats to each other. So here’s another entry into my “5 Reasons Why” series, starting first with 5 reasons why Phil Davis could beat Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. The reverse will soon follow. Let’s dive right in. ...
While most of the attention come this Saturday will be centered around the upcoming light heavyweight match-up pitting former PRIDE star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira against rising star Phil Davis, fans may want to pay a little bit closer attention to their status updates and facebook accounts. The UFC has recently launched a new campaign where the organization regularly hosts previously un-televised UFC bouts live and free, streaming on their facebook page for fans to watch some of their favorite fighters who may not have made the broadcast for whatever the reason. The tradition has become largely popular with the fans, and now the UFC will be presenting five fights to air on their facebook page, and I would be foolish to not insist everyone to check out the full lineup. ...
Coming off of his first loss inside of the UFC, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, brother of former UFC champ "Minotauro" Nogueira, was aiming for a battle against former titleholder Tito Ortiz come next month. However, "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" has since pulled out of the scheduled 205-pound affair due to injury and now budding prospect Phil Davis has stepped up in his place. Davis, a collegiate wrestling champion has been one of the more talked about athletes that have since entered the octagon, and while Nogueira has one ot better Jiu-Jitsu games in the sport, his aim is to knock out "Mr. Wonderful". ...
Changes, changes, changes. Try to keep up. Phil Davis was originally expected to meet with Matt Hamill this May for UFC 130, however "The Hammer" was since pulled from the bout to replace Thiago Silva who was originally expected to face off against former light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Then, Jason Brilz was pegged as Hamill's replacement. Now, former titleholder Tito Ortiz has reportedly been forced out of his bout with PRIDE star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira this March, and now "Mr. Wonderful" will be stepping up in his place on just a few weeks notice. ...
A lot of people have speculated that it might be better late then never for former UFC champion Tito Ortiz to hang it up. He's winless since a 2006 fight with rival Ken Shamrock, who was 41-years-old at the time, and has been consistently beaten by some of his division's best fighters in Chuck Liddell, Lyoto Machida, Forrest Griffin, and most recently Matt Hamill. "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" is 0-4-1 in his last five bouts, but he still claims that he has it in him not only to win, but to be a champion once again. If anything, his will and determination should be given merit, but his next opponent in former PRIDE star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, world-ranked star in the 205-pound division, will do Ortiz no favors in their upcoming fight. ...
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz is standing on his last leg with the worlds largest mixed martial arts promotion. Having cut his teeth early against some of the best that the sport had to offer then, including battles with Frank Shamrock, Guy Mezger, and Wanderlei Silva, Ortiz has now fallen on what would be considered the lowest of lows that his career has faced to date. Currently, "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" remains winless since a 2006 victory over the aging Ken Shamrock. Ortiz has lost 3 consecutive bouts, and is 0-4-1 in his last 5 bouts inside the octagon, albeit against top flight competition in Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Forrest Griffin, and Matt Hamill (respectively). ...
Once again it’s “do or die” time for former long-reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz. And to be perfectly honest, Ortiz’s career has been on life support for quite some time now. But the plug may soon be pulled, as Tito will be fighting for his career both figuratively and literally the next time he steps into the Octagon. But if Ortiz is going out, he’ll be going out a headliner, as it’s recently been announced that his upcoming bout will be the main event of UFC Fight Night 24. Here are all the details. ...
Looks like Tito Ortiz still has a job. After much speculation surrounding the former light heavyweight champion's standings within the Zuffa owned company, it looks like we will at least see the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy" fight one more time inside the octagon. UFC President Dana White was non-committal when asked whether or not Ortiz would remain in the promotion, and to the contrary, recently revealed during a Q&A session in Germany (in accordance with the pre-fight happenings before UFC 122 tomorrow night) that Ortiz would have an impending fight with former PRIDE star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira next March. ...
If having your 'friend' ask you to "pray to whatever Demon effigy you prance and dance in front of with your piglet tribe of savages that I decide not to CRUCIFY you" is what Ed Soares' idea of what a friend should be, than George Bush and Osama bin Laden are sharing a condo on the coast, drinking margaritas and laughing about 'stupid American bureaucracy', and plan to adopt an underprivileged child from North Korea. The Ed-Chael feud had been well documented in the lead up heading into ufc 117 where Chael faced Soares' client Anderson Silva just last August. After many outlandish claims directed towards Soares himself and Anderson Silva primarily, it was later discovered that after failing to capture the UFC middleweight title from "The Spider" after a dominant four-rounds turned in (before the Brazilian submitted Sonnen with a late-rally fifth-round arm bar), Sonnen was found to have been possibly under the influence of performance enhancing drugs. Despite the fall out, and all of the negative tension shared in the media, Ed sympathizes with Sonnen and even goes as far as to say that his 'friend' is innocent of said allegations. ...
The meteoric rise of Jon Jones has been well documented, while the less flashy climb to the top that Ryan Bader has traveled has been perhaps less noticeable. But, none the less, both competitors will find themselves pitted against one another when the collegiate wrestlers meet at an as of yet announced event in Las Vegas, Nev., for UFC 127. Jones, the proverbial golden boy of the light heavyweight division, has been nothing but impressive since his inception into the UFC. While his record reads 11-1, by all means the Endicott, New York, native is an undefeated prodigy. ...
At the recent UFC 119: “Mir vs. Cro Cop” event, surging Light Heavyweight star and winner of Season 8 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality TV show Ryan Bader scored the biggest win of his young career when he defeated veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. The win was Bader’s twelfth fight in his three-year career, and preserved his unbroken win-streak. However, controversy has begun to find its way into the discussion of “Darth Bader” and his big win, with many thinking that “Little Nog” maybe should have earned the decision nod, or at the very least, that the fight itself wasn’t all that exciting. Now that Bader is most likely looking at a match with fellow upstart Jon Jones, here’s what he had to say regarding the future of his career. ...
Some love him, some hate him, some don’t even know who he is. He’s Ed Soares, and he’s the manager and translator to some of the biggest UFC stars currently fighting: Lyoto Machida, Anderson Silva, and many more. Ed Soares is closely tied to the Black House gym, the camp that by far contains the most elite Brazilian MMA talent currently fighting in MMA. Soares recently spoke in a video with MMAWeekly and had several interesting things to say about his fighters. ...
The San Jose based promotion, Strikeforce, has recently put out a press release, declaring the full fight card, including a finalized preliminary card, for the August 21st show, which will be in Houston, Texas. The card features a light heavyweight title fight against newly crowned champion "King Mo" Lawal against top contender Rafael "Feijao", out of Team Blackhouse, who trains alongside the likes of the Nogueria brothers, Anderson Silva, and Junior dos Santos. ...
While Jon Jones has faced the toughest opposition of his career most recently, he's made it look easy and efficient. Even in a losing effort (albeit a disqualification) to TUF veteran Matt Hamill, Jones looked every bit as dominant as he has in wins over perennial contender's Brand Vera and most recently, Vladimir Matyushenko. It's hard to say what will be next for the 205-pound wrestling stud, but Jones in the mean time is enjoying his most recent triumph none the less, which now moves him to 11-1 overall, and marks his fifth win, inside the octagon. ...
The post UFC 109 talks have begun and it did not take long for many to say Fighters.com's tenth-ranked heavyweight "Natural" Randy Couture (18-10) just elevated himself to the top five of the light-heavyweight division with his win over "The Hammer" Mark Coleman (16-10) Saturday night. The thought of him being in the top five is ridiculous when you look at the division and what he is done in the division since coming back down from heavyweight. ...
As I surf the internet bouncing from one mixed martial arts(MMA) site to the next a reoccurring theme occurs. The discussion of Pride Fighting Championships, the fighters, the rules and now a select number of fights being show on Spike TV. This brought back fond memories for me and made me think about the current state of MMA and what made Pride stand out from the crowd. ...
Fighters.com and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion "Dragon" Lyoto Machida (16-0) has announced he's healthy and training for the anticipated rematch with third-ranked "Shogun" Mauricio Rua (18-4) at UFC 113 in Montreal May 8. ...
UFC 113 in Montreal was shaping up to be a very big fight card on May 8 and it just got much bigger. The addition of "Minotoro" Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (17-3) versus Fighters.com fifth-ranked light heavyweight Forrest Griffin (17-6) has made this a must see card for fight fans. ...
UFC light heavyweight "Minotoro" Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (17-3) has emerged from a two-year hiatus from the top ten rankings, during which much of the new MMA fandom knew him only as the brother of Fighters.com's fourth-ranked heavyweight “Minotauro” Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-5-1). ...
The remaining bouts for UFC 106 on November 21 in Las Vegas Nevada are now finalized, the UFC announced today. Topping the bill is the return of former UFC light heavyweight champion "Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Tito Ortiz (15-6-1) as he is set to face former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin (16-4) in a rematch of the 2006 fight that was Griffin's first loss in the UFC. ...
The UFC officially confirmed the clash between Fighters.com seventh-ranked light heavyweight “Banha” Luis Arthur Cane (8-1) and fellow Brazilian "Minotoro" Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (12-3) to fill out the UFC 106 card following the postponement of the former main event title fight between Fighters.com and UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar (2-1) and sixth-ranked heavyweight Shane Carwin (9-0). ...
As controversial as the UFC 104 judges' unanimous decision in favor of Fighters.com and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion "Dragon" Lyoto Machida (16-0) over seemingly obvious victor, now-third-ranked "Shogun" Mauricio Rua (18-4), was among North American MMA fans, nothing compares to the heat over the fight among Brazilian MMA fans. ...
Fighters.com and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion “Dragon” Lyoto Machida (15-0) will defend his championships from sixth-ranked "Shogun" Mauricio Rua (18-3) at UFC 104 in Los Angeles October 24. ...
