Now that the “ufc on Versus” specials are all that the UFC has to offer up to MMA-starved fans on the Versus network, a lot of time, effort, and planning is going into the first “UFC on Versus” event of 2011. “UFC on Versus 3” is set to feature match-ups like Diego Sanchez vs. Martin Kampmann and Takeya Mizugaki vs. Francisco Rivera. Most recently, two additional bouts have been all-but-confirmed for the event, featuring both major UFC stars and former WEC champions. Here’s the latest on the “UFC on Versus 3” card. ...
Alexandre Ferreira is thinking lighter these days. After debuting in the UFC earlier this month, "Cacareco" has come to realize that a 5'7 stature will not match up well in a ultra-competitive light heavyweight division. Riding a 7-fight win streak heading into his bout with former title challenger Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 122 in Oberhausen, Germany, Alex was met with a quick finish when the talented wrestler quickly thwarted an early takedown attempt by the Brazilian, jockeyed position, reigned down punches and elbows until the referee intervened, halting the bout half-way through the first round. ...
DREAM announced on Thursday that newcomer Ralek Gracie (1-0) will replace "Cacareco" Alexandre Ferreira (16-5) at 15 June's DREAM.4 event in Yokohama. Ferreira was scheduled to fight Alavutdin Gadzhiyev (7-1) of Russia. Gracie was originally slated to face "Cro Cop" Mirko Filipovic (23-6-2) in a modified Abu Dhabi rules grappling match; but, the fight was cancelled when "Cro Cop" withdrew due to injury, a report that Nokaut has confirmed. "Cacareco" was removed from the card reportedly because he was unable to obtain a visa for travel. ...
IFL Lightweight Champion "The Lion" Ryan Schultz ran his streak to five wins at Orleans Arena in Vegas Friday night. Team Quest's Schultz, 19-9-1, escaped a choke hold applied by 15-6 John Gunderson to grind out a unanimous decision. Miletich middleweight Ryan McGivern added the IFL 185-pound strap to his belt drawer with a unanimous decision over defending champion "Suave" Matt Horwich of Team Quest. The back-and-forth rematch was fight of the night ending with the same result as their 2006 fight. IFL Heavyweight Champion Roy Nelson made quick work of debuting "Pega-Leve" Fabiano Scherner with TKO at 3:20 of round one. On the undercard, 17-3 middleweight Jake Ellenberger won a unanimous decision over "Bam Bam" Pat Healy. BTT light heavy "Cacareco" Alexandre Ferreira submitted ATT's Lew Polley in 20 seconds for 16th "W" against five losses. Late substitution "Bring the Pain" Josh Haynes of Team Quest won a unanimous decision over Brazilian Leopoldo Serao to pull even at 9-9. ATT lightweight Rafael Dias submitted 11-4 Santino Defranco at 2:03 of round one to raise his record to 10-3-1. Finally, featherweight "The Barn Owl" Ian Loveland of Team Quest guillotine choked Xtreme Couture's "Piranha" Dennis Davis 58-seconds into round two for his ninth win against seven losses. ...
