For Alan Belcher, the last eight-months of his life have been long and arduous.

Recently, Alan just got the OK to go back to training following a slew of surgeries to repair a detached retina which was the cause of trauma to the eye. In his last outing, the ufc veteran submitted former title challenger Patrick Cote with a second-round rear-naked choke.

The win helped extend a two-fight win streak, and Alan has four of of last five fights overall, with the only blemish coming at the hands of former K-1 star Yoshihiro Akiyama, which resulted in a controversial split-decision which earned “Fight of the Night” honors at UFC 100 in July of 2009.

His win over Cote was in May of last year, and Belcher is eager to get back to the top of the division.

Alan recently took his Twitter and has this to say: “Workin on fight w Joe silva. I need fans to let Joe and Dana know who you want me to fight, please only big names, wand, Maia, bisping (sic)”.

We already know that Wand–Wanderlei Silva–is already anticipated to be facing off against budding contender Brian Stann, who recently came off of a savage first-round knockout win over perennial contender Chris Leben at UFC 125 on Jan. 1. The date of the bout is still yet to be determined since Silva is on the heels of recuperating from knee surgery. Michael Bisping, meanwhile is set to tangle with fellow contender Jorge Rivera as the co-main event for UFC 127 on February 26.

So, that leaves Demian Maia. Most likely, the Duke Roufus product will be facing the Jiu-Jitsu specialist in the immediate future. Both Demian and Belcher were expected to meet each other not too long ago. In September of last year, the two were the anticipated main-event for “UFC Fight Night 22″, however Alan later pulled out due to his eye injury, and Nate Marquardt versus Rousimar Palhares later took it’s place.

Maia was rescheduled, and instead met with Mario Miranda, defeating his fellow Brazilian via unanimous decision at UFC 118 last August.

So, MMA peeps, is that the match-up you’d like to see? How do you think it will play out? Obviously Belcher is a lauded dynamic-striker and Maia is one of the premier submission specialists in mixed martial arts, so it presents the proverbial “striker for grappler” bout. Sound off in the comment section below.

Brian Stann is a UFC veteran, a former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion, and a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. And at UFC 125 “Resolution”, he finally emerged as a legitimate threat in the UFC’s Middleweight division, beating back the always-dangerous Chris Leben and putting an end to what was arguably the best win-streak of Leben’s career. Moving forward, Stann could emerge as a legitimate championship contender by the time 2011 is through, so long as he faces the right opponents. And who should those opponents be? Here’s a Top 5 with just that in mind.

5. Demian Maia

After several big “fall from grace” moments that came in the form of a KO loss to Nate Marquardt and a humiliating Unanimous Decision loss to Anderson Silva, it appears that Demian Maia has finally begun to win back some of the luster he had when he first entered the UFC and was being hailed as the next Royce Gracie. Stann has only been submitted once, but he’s never faced an expert the caliber of Maia. This fight would prove that Stann is well-rounded enough to overcome any threat in all areas of the MMA game, because make no mistake, Maia is still an ace on the ground and his stand-up continues to show noticeable improvement.

4. Alan Belcher

This fight would test Stann’s adaptability and especially his takedown defense. It would be entertaining, of that there can be no doubt, because Belcher has no problem making it a brawl if you want to make it a brawl. The test for Stann, however, lies not in who brawls the best, but what he’ll do if and when Belcher feels that he’d stand a better chance of winning the fight by taking Stann down. If Stann can deal with Belcher’s strong takedowns and his brawling prowess, he’d set himself up for several major match-ups in the future.

3. Michael Bisping

We know Brian Stann can beat Chris Leben, but we also know that, for all intents and purposes, Michael Bisping is a better version of Chris Leben. Bisping has better Octagon control, more precise punches, and a very good ground game. Much like Leben, Bisping is also on a pretty good win-streak right now and once again he’s flirting with top-division status. If Stann puts another halt to another good win-streak, he’ll have earned a sizeable amount of credibility with the UFC top brass, who will most likely begin taking him seriously as a true top-division threat.

2. Nate Marquardt

I think we’ve all been forced to realize that Nate Marquardt shines against mid-level competition but consistently falters when matched up against high-level threats. More than any other fight, this one would prove which of those two classes of fighters Stann belongs to. If Stann isn’t ready for the absolute best, Marquardt should be able to beat him and perhaps even beat him dramatically. But if Stann is a true championship contender, he’ll prove that by beating Marquardt.

And my #1 pick for Brian Stann’s next opponent is…

1. Wanderlei Silva

I admit that this is the Wanderlei Silva fanboy in me talking. A lot of people have taken to calling out Wanderlei recently, now that he’s established some credibility in the Middleweight division by scoring a thrilling victory over Michael Bisping. I think Wanderlei vs. Stann would be an epic brawl that would only end with one man face-down on the canvas and out cold. Even though Silva is still in the process of finding himself in the crowded UFC Middleweight division, this fight has the most potential to be exhilarating, entertaining, and a firm step in the right direction for whomever ends up winning it.

And that’s what I think, fans and friends. What about you? What do you think of Brian Stann, and who would you like to see him fight in the future?

For the first time in an unfortunately long while, the future looks bright for former PRIDE FC star Wanderlei Silva. Silva’s Middleweight debut and win against Michael Bisping broke a two-fight losing-streak and effectively breathed new life into “The Axe Murderer” as a performer. Now several Middleweight stars all want their crack at Silva: Chris Leben has already vocally called Silva out, but recently, both Vitor Belfort and Alan Belcher made it known that they’d enjoy taking on Wanderlei. Wanderlei even responded to one of their challenges recently. Here are all the details.

We go first to Fighters Only, where current #1 contender to the Middleweight Championship Vitor Belfort had this to say in regards to a recent blog post where Wanderlei predicted that Belfort would find himself in a whole heap of trouble when he met Anderson Silva for the UFC Middleweight Championship: “I didn’t waste my time watching [Wanderlei Silva's video blog]. It’s just a spectator’s opinion. Spectators can say whatever they want. He just wanted to get some attention for himself. I don’t take it seriously.”

Next up is MMA Fighting, where the returning Alan Belcher recently said the following: “I want to fight Wanderlei Silva. And I think he needs to fight someone like me, a top young guy, to really stay in the mix. He needs to do that to stay a legit fighter and not just a legend selling pay-per-views because he has a name… I think a passing of the torch is the perfect way to put it… I feel I’m better than him. Wanderlei definitely poses a threat…but at this point, I am more technical, well-rounded and I can beat him in any part of the game… I want to make myself a legend off of this fight.”

And finally we head to MMA Mania, who compiled the following message from Wanderlei Silva’s Twitter account: “You know, I was missing something. But then I found out I needed a rival. I never trained as hard as the time I fought (Ricardo) Arona. But now, I want (Vitor) Belfort, and I’m already trained for you. I’m gonna get you, you’ll see!”

I think both these fights would be awesome and really boost Wanderlei Silva’s credibility as he ventures down this latest career path. Silva and Belfort last fought over ten years ago at the UFC’s “Ultimate Brazil” show, with Belfort famously TKO’ing Wanderlei forty-four seconds into the round. If most people look forward to a rematch a year or two down the road because of how different both fighters have become, just imagine how different a Belfort/Silva rematch would be now that both men have had over ten years to hone their craft. More than likely it will be an incredible stand-up war.

Alan Belcher represents a very different threat to Wanderlei Silva, but still a pretty big one. Belcher has excellent wrestling, the kind of chin required to consistently shoot for takedowns, and his stand-up isn’t anywhere close to bad. It would be a clash of styles for sure, and highly competitive too. It would also be an important milestone and proving point for both men. All that added up makes me think that Belcher/Silva would be an amazing fight.

And after all that, Chris Leben still waits in the wings. No matter who Wanderlei Silva fights next, I’m looking forward to seeing him return to the Octagon. Silva’s legions of fans will follow him and support him no matter what, but I personally think that the time is right for a rebirth and return of “The Axe Murderer”. It may not happen overnight, but it may just be that the best is yet to come when it comes to Wanderlei Silva.

And what about you, fans and friends? Who do you think Wanderlei should fight next, and what do you think of his chances against Leben, or Belfort, or Belcher?

Along with many in the MMA community, I was incredibly disheartened when news broke several months ago that rising ufc star Alan Belcher would be sitting on the sidelines for the foreseeable future with a career-threatening eye injury. Perhaps the saddest thing about this entire situation was the fact that Belcher’s last fight before the eye injury that could have ended his career was by far his most brilliant performance: a two-round thrashing of Patrick Cote that ended with a massive Piledriver straight out of a pro wrestling organization. But note the “could have” in that last sentence: according to a new report, Belcher is going to be hitting the comeback trail in 2011, and I personally couldn’t be happier.

Here are the highlights, straight from the man himself and taken from an interview Belcher recently did with MMA Weekly: “[My doctors] weren’t really sure [if I would ever fight again]… They thought I would get a lot of vision back and I might probably be able to fight again if I wanted to take the risk, but they weren’t really sure… Now we’re at where we’re at now, it seems everything is healing… I can probably be back doing contact as early as January… I’ll return strong and win and be right back where I was, and maybe even higher.”

Now, I wouldn’t call myself an Alan Belcher super-fan, but as I’ve said multiple times… everybody loves a comeback. I’d be loving this one, and be honest, you’d be loving it too. Alan Belcher is a no-nonsense kind of fighter, and he was getting better on a per-fight basis before he had this brush with disaster. There’s a reason Belcher was going to be headlining a Fight Night card after the Cote fight: he’s a very entertaining fighter and could be a serious championship contender in the near future.

It remains to be seen how the dreaded “ring rust” factor will hold Alan Belcher back in his return, because I think it’s been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that ring rust is very real and can hinder virtually any professional fighter that returns from a prolonged absence. Still, if anyone has a shot at becoming the rare exception rather than the often-repeated rule, it’s definitely a fighter like Alan Belcher. After all he’s gone through, I’d certainly be pulling for him to win his return no matter who he’s put up against.

Perhaps the best thing about this return is the fact that there are so many people Belcher could face, and that Belcher’s return would add another good Middleweight to a division that is rapidly recovering from Anderson Silva’s famed reign of destruction. I’d love to see Belcher take on people like Chris Leben, Wanderlei Silva, Michael Bisping, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Demian Maia, and Rousimar Palhares. I’d even enjoy seeing him tangle with championship-level talent like Vitor Belfort and Nate Marquardt.

If Belcher hits the comeback trail hard, he’s got a great shot at picking up his career where it left off, with him hovering around title contention and getting better and better opponents on a fight-by-fight basis. I wish Alan Belcher all the best, and am really looking forward to the return of “The Talent” in 2011. And what about you, fans and friends? What are your predictions for Belcher’s return, in regards to future opponents as well as future successes or failures?

Heading into his ufc debut against “The Ultimate Fighter” alumnus in Gerald Harris last March, Mario Miranda was pegged as being the next big thing in the middleweight division.

After all, at 6’4, undefeated as a professional with a perfect 10-0 record, and with only two decisions to his name, it was easy to see why this Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt was sought after by the worlds largest organization.

However, after a disappointing knockout loss to Gerald Harris and an additional loss to grappling ace Demian Maia at UFC 118, with a win over former UFC title challenger David Loiseau sandwiched in between, it looked like the Brazilian’s career inside the octagon would be short lived.

Shy Sadis, co-manager over the middleweight stud recently broke the news of the new 4-fight deal with MMAJunkie.com.

Accordingly, Miranda was in camp with idol and fellow middleweight Anderson Silva, to whom he helped emulate the style of Chael Sonnen (for his UFC 117 match), and since then, the two Brazilians clicked and the Blackhouse representative has taken a liking to Miranda.

Mario stepped up on short notice to fill in for an ill Alan Belcher, when the Demain Maia fight was presented to him. Originally slated to compete on the “UFC Fight Night 22″ card on September 15, the bout was pulled to an earlier date after the Belcher fall out. Instead, the fight was moved two weeks earlier to UFC 118, on August 28, in Boston, Mass.

Miranda held his own against Maia, staving off several submission attempts, but the superior grappling of Demian, a Abu Dhabi Grappling veteran, proved too much, and the former title challenger eventually secured a clean sweep, unanimous decision victory with 30-27 going all across the board.

So, MMA peeps, what do you make of the news of Miranda re-signing with the UFC? Wise move? Can you see him make waves in the crowded division? Sound off in the comment section below.

One of the ufc‘s best kept secrets, middleweight contender Alan Belcher is still in dire straits.

The man isn’t dying, and he will be able to live a normal, though partially limited, everyday life–so don’t fret. But will we ever see “The Talent” fight again? That remains a question that has still yet to be answered.

Belcher was last seen in action at UFC 115 in Vancouver, Canada where he submitted countryman Patrick Cote with a second round rear naked choke, capping off an impressive run towards title contention.

He was then set to face former middleweight title challenger Demain Maia as the headliner for next weeks “UFC: Fight Night 22″ broadcast on Spike TV. However an airplane ride from Brazil back to the states and a detached retina later would change all of that.

Following the trip back home after a short stint in Brazil to catch up on grappling technique in preparation for his fight with the grappling ace Demain Maia, Belcher put out news if his injury on his personal website, AlanBelcher.net, stating that the detached retina most likely came from a small tear in eye that got worse over time.

Since then, no news of a speedy recovery has seemed likely. An avid Twitter fanatic, Belcher has handed over the reigns to his wife Ashlee, where she has kept everyone up to date on his condition. Here are some of the standout excerpts from Alan’s personal Twitter account that his wife has been diligently keeping up.

“While I was in brazil I started losing my vision in my right eye. I saw a dr that told me to go back to us http://tl.gd/2s90am”: 9:08 AM Aug 1st

“There is still alot of pain with my eye. had surgery over a week ago. i cant see very well. very blurry and near sighted!”, 8:33 AM Aug 7th via web from Biloxi, MS:

“Dr semple said next few weeks will tell my future. It’s feeling better but my sight isn’t completely back. The unknown is the hard part”, : Thursday, August 12, 2010 11:49:45 PM: said the middleweight fighter before he gave his wife the civic duty of keeping his fans up to date.

“This is alans wife @Ashleebelcher Yesterday his vision was blurry again today heading into another surgery on same eye please keep praying”: 9:51 AM Sep 1st:

So far, the excerpt below is some of the latest news on Belcher. Still no word on his condition exactly, and how is eye is fairing, but he seems to be in good spirits, still attending events.

“AshleeBelcher @alanbelcherufc will be at ufc 119 in Indianapolis! Unfortunately he won’t be in Austin. He isn’t able to fly until bubble in eye is gone”: Wednesday, September 08, 2010 3:35:43 PM

Follow @alanbelcher and his wife @Ashleebelcher on Twitter for continuous updates and show your support for the enigmatic middleweight star. He’s feeling the love, but can always use more.

So, MMA peeps, I’m sure most of you are aware of Belcher’s condition as of yet, however normally this would be the part where I’d as for your opinion on Alan, what kind of fighter he is, and who you would like to see him tangle with next should he return–but for now, I would like anyone to wish him good luck and a speedy recovery. Thanks.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion and current middleweight contender Vitor Belfort will be returning to action in November, but against who–who knows.

The news, which was highlighted previously on Fighters.com , where according to Vitor himself on Twitter, “this year I am not going to fight for the title because the champion (UFC Middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva) is hurt but November we will be in action for sure that is what I can say.”

Silva, who was later reported injured prior to his bout with contender Chael Sonnen at UFC 117, is on an indefinite hiatus away from the cage. Anderson sustained fractured ribs before his last outing with Sonnen, while training with Judoka Satoshi Ishi and former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.

So, that definitely rules out Anderson for the rest of the year, and Vitor accordingly. But what about Sonnen? According to Belfort, in an interview with Sherdog.com, Chael is off the table as well for the surging middleweight, who began his career at 185 initially with a victory over Terry Martin under the Affliction banner in 2008, knocking out the UFC veteran on strikes in the second round.

The Brazilian followed up the performance with another commanding stoppage over the well traveled and well respected Matt Lindland, knocking out the former top middleweight in just 37 seconds, in January of 2009.

In his UFC return after the collapse of the aforementioned promotion Affliction, Belfort immediately put himself on the map when he needed just over three minutes to top former middleweight champion Rich Franklin at UFC 103 in Dallas, Tex., knocking out the former math teacher turned MMA fighter last September.

Since then, Belfort’s absence has gone noticed, and while many speculated that a match pitting both Sonnen and Vitor would be the next logical step, that doesn’t appear so likely now.

“I talked to Lorenzo (Fertitta) this week and will return in November,” Belfort said in his interview with Sherdog.com. “I just asked him to not be (on the November card in Germany). I’m tired of traveling. I would like to return to fighting here in America. According to my conversation with Lorenzo, my opponent will not be Sonnen, but another guy that will be decided soon.”

So, if not Sonnen, and not Anderson, than who? The only middleweight fighter that stands out to me, who isn’t already tied up in a fight, would have to be Chris Leben–or even Yushin Okami.

Nate Marquardt is tied up in his middleweight affair with Rousimar Palhares at UFC Fight Night 22 in September, Demian Maia is mixing it up against Mario Miranda at UFC 118, Alan Belcher is sidelined with a detached retina that may keep him away from fighting for good, and in my mind, there are no other viable contenders besides Okami and Leben.

Do you disagree? Anybody else in mind for Vitor?

A fairly new addition to the UFC’s already massive exposure to it’s fan base, SpikeTV officials were able to confirm in July that there would be a joint venture once again between the promotion and network company, in order to broadcast 2 selected fights, as part of a special “UFC Prelims” feature.

SpikeTV officials were able to confirm that the one hour special will two bouts, both in the middleweight division.

According to Spike, winner of the eleventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter”, Court McGee will make his second appearance inside the octagon, and first after winning the competition. The former drug addict-turned sober fighter will take on veteran Ryan Jensen, as part of the “UFC on Prelims” feature, for UFC 121–headlined by a heavyweight clash between champion Brock Lesnar who attempts to defend his title against top contender, Cain Velasquez.

Additionally, fellow “The Ultimate Fighter” veteran and wild man, Tom Lawlor will take on former middleweight title challenger Patrick Cote, on the aforementioned “UFC on Prelims” special, on October 23, at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, Calif.

Lawlor, though colorful, charismatic and clearly talented, will likely be fighting for his spot in the UFC alongside Cote, as both middleweights are coming off back-to-back losses against top competition.

Cote, who returned to the UFC after a long absence due to a knee injury following a loss to Anderson Silva in a bid for his title back in 2008, returned last June at UFC 115 in Vancouver, in a losing effort to contender Alan Belcher by rear naked choke in the second round.

Lawlor, meanwhile earned his bid in the UFC after defeating fellow cast mate on the eighth season of TUF, Kyle Kingsbury by unanimous decision. The fight was contested at light heavyweight, where after the 205-pounder turned middleweight defeated CB Dollaway by guillotine choke, at UFC 100. The win nabbed the American Top Team product “Submission of the Night” honors for his efforts.

Since then, Lawlor dropped a split decision to fellow wrestler Aaron Simpson, after rocking Simpson early with a barrage of punches, and appearing to have gassed in the latter parts of the fight. He then took on late-replacement Joe Doerksen at UFC 115, losing by rear naked choke against the veteran who has competed in nearly 60 fights as a professional.

Is everyone pleased with the match ups, or would you have rather seen a different fight on the prelims special for Spike?

UFC Fight Night 22, which will air live in SpikeTV on September 25th, and the Pay-Per-View event UFC 118, held on August 28, will experience a bit of a shake up.

Middleweight contender Alan Belcher reported via Twitter, that a detached retina will prevent him from competing opposite of Demian Maia, a match that “The Talent” had been campaigning for since his victory over former title challenger Patrick Cote.

While the Belcher-Maia match was to serve as the main event of the evening, with the loss of Alan, the UFC scrambled to find a suitable bout to headline the event.

The decision was made, and through the grape vine, Nate Marquardt and Rousimar Palhares were called to duty, and will now fill in, and will now take over headlining duties on September 25.

The date should prove beneficial for both competitors, as they will now have almost a full-month more to be able to prepare for the bout, since both competitors were originally scheduled for the main card of UFC 118, in Boston, Mass.

Demian, on the other hand, will be playing catch up, as he will now fill in at UFC 118, and will now be taking on Mario Miranda.

Miranda, who entered the UFC undefeated, has split his two bouts inside the octagon, debuting initially against budding middleweight Gerald Harris and losing by knockout in the first round, Miranda was able to bounce back at UFC 115 against former UFC middleweight contender David Loiseau, winning via TKO in the second round.

Maia, a heralded Jiu-Jitsu specialist and Abu Dhabi veteran, is probably most remembered for his most recent performance at UFC 112 against Anderson Silva, challenging for the middleweight title.

The bout saw Silva taunt, and berate the mild-mannered Maia throughout the fight, before Maia would become the aggressor in the later rounds, seemingly striking Silva at all, but ultimately lost by unanimous decision.

So, is Marquardt vs Palhares a suitable fight to covet main event honors for the Fight Night–which also serves as a lead into the 12th season of “The Ultimate Fighter–and does Maia have ample time to change his game plan, and prepare for a well versed opponent like Miranda (who has split training camps with AMC Pankration and The famed Black House team in California, training alongside the likes of the aforementioned Anderson Silva, Nogueria brothers, and Lyoto Machida)?

Middleweight “The Talent” Alan Belcher (13-5) nearly let a “W” slip away in a split decision victory over “Short Fuse” Ed Herman (14-7) Wednesday night in Omaha.

OVer three rounds, there was no question Belcher won the stand-up with a noticeably sharper Muay Thai style that peppered Herman with jabs, straight rights, and bone-rattling leg kicks.

But, Belcher got cocky in every round and surrendered the takedown to “Short Fuse”.

In the first, Herman closed the round working a D’Arce choke at the fence. Belcher worked up the fence; but, Herman put him back on his back and returned to the D’Arce choke attempt until the round ended.

In the second round, Belcher zapped Herman with a lead left hook, followed by a leg kick, and a striaght right a few moments later that backed Herman to the fence.

In the final round, Belcher grazed Herman with a head kick, then threw a leg kick Herman caught and used to dump Belcher on his ass. Herman mounted and landed shots until the bell sounded.

Judges scored the fight 29-28 for Belcher twice and 29-28 for Herman once.

Canada welcomed in the UFC Saturday night in Montréal; and, the UFC welcomed back in Canada as “Rush” Georges St. Pierre (16-2) avenged his loss to “The Terror” Matt Serra (9-5) by second-round TKO to capture sole possession of the UFC welterweight title before his countrymen and fellow Quebecois.

Former UFC Middleweight Champion and Fighters.com’s second-ranked 185-pounder “Ace” Rich Franklin (23-3) also found the land of maple leaf friendly in a second-round TKO of “The Serial Killer” Travis Lutter (9-5).

TUF Champions “The Count” Michael Bisping (15-1) and Mac Danzig (18-4-1) debuted in new weight classes with stoppages.

Les habitants “The Athlete” Jason MacDonald (20-9), “Dooms” Jason Day (17-5), and Jonathan Goulet (22-9) also had success for the home team, while “The Rock” Nathan Quarry (10-2), Demian Maia (7-0), “No Love” Rich Clementi (31-12-1), and Cain Velasquez (3-0) scored wins as visitors to the true north, strong and free.

Though seven of the 11 duels on 83′s lineup featured St. Pierre’s fellow countrymen, this French-Canadian bon soirwas entirely the Quebecois phenom’s. He entered the Octagon blazing a crimson gi with the strength of 22,000 at the Centre Bell.

Serra had played a clever villain during the event’s promotional tour, but had no quips for “Rush” as St. Pierre packed him into the mat upon stuffing Serra’s initial shot.

St. Pierre mauled “The Terror” with short, sharp elbows as Serra pedaled through guards, all passed by St. Pierre. Serra finally crawled up the cage to his feet.

In the center of the cage, St. Pierre blasted Serra with a Superman punch, setting up a double-leg takedown near the end of round one.

Serra, a mouse puffing beneath his right eye, emptied his tank about 90 seconds into round two as “Rush” tagged “The Terror” with five snapping jabs before planting him back onto the mat with a double-leg takedown.

St. Pierre’s G’n'P onslaught poured on, driving Serra into turtle guard. A series of unanswered rib-rattling knees persuaded referee Steve Mazzagatti to end the fight at 4:45.

“I tired him out,” explained the best 170-pound fighter in the world.

Serra countered, “I ended up coming up short, no pun intended.”

Welterweights Goulet and Kuniyoshi Hironaka (11-5) both pocketed 75 grand for battling the “Fight of the Night” in the card’s opening bout.

Goulet got the worst of it in the punch-up’s first round. Attempting to press his striking advantage, Goulet got tagged with a short Hironaka left hook. The Japanese fighter fell the Canadian and followed with a mix of fists and elbows to close the round.

“He tried to finish me,” Goulet admitted after the fight, “but he got too excited. I was careful because of my experience.”

The two fighters traded evenly to open the second before Hironaka was stunned with a punch that backed him to the cage. Goulet stalked with a flurry that dropped his opponent for a TKO at 2:07.

In the co-main event, Franklin also rebounded from a lost first round in which Lutter took the former champ to the mat and worked his jiu-jitsu juju. Franklin was nearly tapped in an armbar before he countered in a nifty maneuver that rolled him into Lutter’s full guard.

Lutter had worn himself weary by the second round and got caught with head kick as he shot for single-leg takedown. Franklin hammered “The Serial Killer” and motioned for the referee to stand him up. “Ace” picked Lutter apart on their feet with a combination of slick boxing and knees until the referree stopped the fight at 3:01

Danzig predicted to Fighters.com that Mark Bocek (5-2) is susceptible to a knee and the debuting 155-pounder delivered three big knees to set Bocek up for a rear naked choke submission at 3:48 of the third round.

“I paced myself, and I needed that; because, if I didn’t pace myself I wouldn’t have been able to do what I did in the last round,” Danzig said.

His fellow TUF Champion Bisping debuted at 185-pounds with a dominant TKO “W” over “Chainsaw” Charles McCarthy (10-5), who was unable to continue due to an arm injury after round one.

“Charles couldn’t get up,” “The Count” expalined after the fight.

Middleweight Quarry chased down a timid Kalib Starnes (8-3-1), who probably ran himself out of the UFC, for a unanimous decision.

Middleweight MacDonald added $75,000 to his bank balance with a “(T)KO of the Night” versus Joe Doerksen (39-12) at 54 seconds of the second round.

Middleweight Maia also earned 75 grand for “Submission of the Night”, a triangle choke of “Short Fuse” Ed Herman (14-5) at 2:27 of round two.

Middleweight Day made a successful UFC debut with a 3:58 TKO of “The Talent” Alan Belcher (12-5).

Lightweight Clementi ruined Canadian “Hands of Stone” Sam Stout‘s (13-4-1) homecoming with a split decision victory.

Finally, touted heavyweight Velasquez only spent 2:10 in his Octagon debut before TKOing Brad Morris (9-3).
