It’s that time once again, fans and friends. Another major MMA event has come and gone, and it’s time for my unofficial “Best Performance of the Night” award. Unfortunately, UFC 130: “Rampage vs. Hamill” continues a trend that’s plagued the last few entries into “BPOTN”. To summarize: it’s hard to pick the best performance from an underwhelming event. But in a sea of average-to-good fights, one stellar knockout rose up above all the rest. Here’s why Travis Browne took home “Best Performance of the Night” for his utter devastation of Stefan Struve. ...
UFC 130 was, as a whole, an unfortunately underwhelming event. But it was not a bad event, far from it in fact. UFC 130 saw a host of big fighters fighting in big fights, with several interesting wars of attrition and some big highlight-reel KO’s But which stars shined brightest, and what moments will fans be talking about in the following weeks? Here’s my take on the matter: my top 5 best moments of UFC 130: “Rampage vs. Hamill”. ...
UFC 130: “Rampage vs. Hamill” is now a thing of the past. Quinton Jackson has now taken a big step towards another shot at a UFC championship, and so has Frank Mir. Meanwhile, Matt Hamill and Roy Nelson must somberly reflect on what changes they need to make in order to beat top-quality competition. Now once again it’s time to ask: what’s next? What does the future hold after such an event? Here’s my answer to just that: a new edition of my “What’s Next for the Winners and Losers” series of articles, now featuring UFC 130. ...
Another one went into the history books tonight, fans and friends. The ufc continued its long journey by holding its one hundred and thirtieth event yesterday, featuring what was expected to be several interesting matches between big-name stars. So, how was “Rampage vs. Hamill”? Unfortunately, this is one of the rare instances where I’m wrong for all the right reasons. I wanted to like this card, I tried to keep telling myself that it’d be better than everyone was saying it would be. And it was… just not by much. Here are the full results as well as some commentary on UFC 130: “Rampage vs. Hamill”. ...
Today the UFC will hold its highly-anticipated “UFC 130” event, featuring a jam-packed main card and five free fights through Facebook and Spike TV. The card features an ensemble cast of former champions, former title contenders, and more: Frank Mir, Roy Nelson, Quinton Jackson, Miguel Torres, and Thiago Alves are just some of the names attached to this card. Still, some fans may be asking themselves: what are the best reasons to check out this card? Here’s my answer to just that: 5 reasons to watch UFC 130. ...
We’re now only a few days away from UFC 130: “Rampage vs. Hamill”. In the main event, former “Ultimate Fighter” contestant Matt Hamill takes on his toughest test to date: former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Jackson. The co-main event will also be an interesting match-up, as former UFC Heavyweight and Interim Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir takes on “Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 winner Roy Nelson. As is customary, here is my official “picks and predictions” post (covering who I think will win and why), now featuring UFC 130. ...
Once again, fans and friends, it’s time for “A Closer Look at UFC 130”. My special three-day mini-series has now officially entered its third and final day and will now feature the last three fights of what should be an awesome UFC 130 fight card. And before we get to the two big Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight fights that are anchoring this event, it’s now time to focus on a match-up between two up-and-coming Heavyweights with plenty of skill and lots of knockout power. It’s Stefan Struve vs. Travis Browne, and this is the first entry in the three-part finale of “A Closer Look at UFC 130”. ...
It looks as if surging Heavyweight Brendan Schaub will have to continue to wait to get his shot at a UFC champion, past or present. Early rumors speculated that Schaub would meet former champion and submission specialist Frank Mir sometime in early 2011, but according to new reports, that fight has failed to materialize. Instead, words is coming down from several sources that Schaub’s next opponent will be Stefan Struve, who recently TKO’d Sean McCorkle in a battle of giants. But in a bit of breaking news, there’s also a new rumor that says that Schaub will be fighting Mirko Filipovic. Here are all the details on what is turning into quite an interesting story. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another edition of “What’s Next”, where I pull out my trusty crystal globe and take a glimpse at what I think the future holds for the big winners and losers of a major MMA event. UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2” was definitely a major event, and it had plenty of big winners and losers. In the main event, Georges St. Pierre utterly outclassed Josh Koscheck in perhaps one of the best performances GSP has ever given us in his vaunted career. So let’s get right to it with another edition of “What’s Next.” ...
The final UFC event of the first decade of the new millennium is now in the history books, fans and friends. And what an event it was: from the preliminary card featured live on UFC.com to the Pay-Per-View itself, this was a night loaded with fantastic fights and amazing finishes. One could seemingly not ask for a better way to end the year, as Georges St. Pierre put on yet another classic performance and dominated Josh Koscheck for five straight rounds. Here are the full results as well as some early commentary on UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”. ...
On December 11, the UFC will present its final show for the first decade of the new millennium- UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”. And what a decade it’s been for what is now the world’s largest and most prestigious MMA organization. The UFC and MMA in general saw the rise and fall of countless legends throughout the decade, and as a whole, the fight game evolved to where a master of one technique could be beaten and even outright humbled by a true Mixed Martial Artist. And UFC 124 features one of the most well-rounded MMA fighters ever, defending his championship for the fifth straight time. As is customary for a big card, here are my official picks and predictions for some of the big match-ups of UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to the latest edition of “Crash Course”. “Crash Course” is an ongoing series of articles where I give a quick rundown on a big upcoming MMA event in order to best prepare those that may not be that familiar with the day-to-day happenings in Mixed Martial Arts. Today’s event is UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”, featuring a main event that sees two of the best Welterweight fighters in the world battle it out once again in a rematch that’s been three years in the making. Let’s get right to it. ...
In the growing list of brash trash-talkers looking to establish themselves in the UFC by earning the ire of both the fans and their opponents, it appears that a new challenger has emerged. At UFC 119, Sean McCorkle extended the losing streak of former PRIDE FC veteran Mark Hunt to six straight losses. McCorkle scored his second submission win via a submission hold (he has three wins via submission due to punches) when he caught Hunt in an armlock while Hunt was in McCorkle’s guard. McCorkle now faces Stefan Struve at December’s UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2” event, and in a recent interview, he let “Skyscraper” feel the sting of some precise verbal jabs. ...
As previously reported, Shane Carwin will be making his return at ufc 125, though no opponent was mentioned at the time of the reveal. Carwin himself, in fact, made the news of his return on his official Twitter page (@ShaneCarwin), and since then many have speculated who the former title challenger will be facing. In his last outing, Carwin attempted to unify his interim heavyweight title, which he earned with a first round knockout of former champion Frank Mir at UFC 111, when he tangled with the current title holder in Brock Lesnar, at UFC 116 last July. After a dominant first-round turned in, where "The Engineer" was able to drop Lesnar with a barrage of punches, eventually gassing himself when he unloaded a heavy dose of ground and pound that had left Brock on the ropes, but otherwise still in the fight. ...
Season 12 coaches of "The Ultimate Fighter" Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck have been expected to tangle with one another at UFC 124, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in a welterweight clash. Champion GSP will look to make his fifth successful title defense against foe Koscheck. The two had met previously at UFC 74, where the American Kickboxing Academy product was riding a 5-fight win streak inside the cage coming into the bout, meanwhile, "Rush" was coming off of a disappointing and shocking knockout loss to the unheralded Matt Serra at UFC 69. While competitive in spots, St. Pierre was able to dominate the wrestling department against the former NCAA champion, en route to a unanimous decision victory. ...
Standing at 6'11, Stefan Struve is someone everyone notices, in or out of the cage. While he has garnered some disappointing losses since his inception to the ufc in 2009 against division standouts Junior dos Santos (UFC 95) and Roy Nelson (UFC Fight Night 21), he has also picked up some of the best come-from-behind wins, in recent memory. Beginning to make noise in the heavyweight division, "Skyscraper" will meet with perhaps his most well-known opponent to date, when he tangles with internet sensation, Sean McCorkle. ...
Exciting heavyweight star Stefan Struve will remain in the UFC fold for some time. after debuting in a losing effort to now UFC top contender Junior dos Santos at UFC 95, back in February of 2009, "Skyskraper" has been climbing the heavyweight division, winning 4 of his last 5 bouts en route to contenders status in the now ultra competitive weight class. ...
Now that UFC 117 is now in the books, after one of the promotion's best night of fights in recent memory, where middleweight champion Anderson Silva defended his title against top contender Chael Sonnen, Matt Hughes solidified himself in the 170 pound division, and Junior dos Santos became the next challenger after Cain Velasquez, for the UFC heavyweight title. ...
It's no secret that Roy Nelson is a big man. A big, big man. And that's just fine by Junior dos Santos, who has emerged as one of the UFC's most exciting fighter's in the heavyweight division. ...
While the UFC was able to visit Germany in 2009, it wasn't without criticism. Though MMA legends highlighted the card, such as Rich Franklin, Wanderlei Silva, and Mirko Cro Cop, it was Stefan Struve who received the most attention that night, when after suffering a laceration on his forehead, he began to bleed profusely on the mat. That seems to be what all the German media remembered from what was supposed to be a ground breaking night for the UFC and fans alike. ...
With less than a week away from UFC 117, which will feature Anderson Silva in his 7th title defense, opposite of the sharp-tongued Chael Sonnen, will be held in Oakland, Cali., before a ruckus west coast crowd, with sure crowd pleasing fights anchoring the card. While there will be no SpikeTV broadcast of the preliminary card, I felt that there was some attention that was need to be made to our untelevised bretheren. ...
UFC Fight Night took place last night before the season premiere of The Ultimate Fighter. Here is a look back at the highlights and low-lights of the event MMA Gospel style. ...
At UFC's Ultimate Fight Night 21 in Charlotte Wednesday night The Ultimate Fighter 10 champion “Big Country” Roy Nelson(15-4) knocked out 6'11" heavyweight prospect “Skyscraper” Stefan Struve (23-4) in 39 seconds, an impressive win for a "fat guy" with a nearly one-foot height disadvantage. I noted to a friend recently that an MMA Junkie article listing the UFC's top heavyweight talent included, of course, UFC champion and Fighters.com's second-ranked heavyweight Brock Lesnar (4-1), his title challenger Shane Carwin (10-0), next in line Cain Velasquez(9-0), ”Cigano” Junior dos Santos (10-1), recently defeated former UFC champion Frank Mir(13-4), and former PRIDE and interim UFC champion “Minotauro” Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira(32-6-1). The article also threw Struve and Cheick Kongo(14-6-1) into the mix at the top of the UFC's heavyweight division...but no Nelson. My point to my friend was that I wouldn't mind leaving Nelson out of a discussion of the UFC's top heavyweights, but if you're going to throw in Struve and Kongo, you have to include Nelson. ...
Fighters.com’s seventh-ranked lightweight “KenFlo” Kenny Florian (12-4) and former PRIDE champion “Fireball Kid” Takanori Gomi (28-6) both made the lightweight limit for their matchup at Fight Night 21 in Charlotte Wednesday night. ...
The Ultimate Fighter 10 champion “Big Country” Roy Nelson (14-4) and 6' 11" heavyweight prospect “SkySkraper” Stefan Struve (23-3) will matchup at UFC Fight Night 21 in Charlotte March 31, according to MMA Junkie. ...
UFC heavyweight "SkySkraper" Stefan Struve (22-3) joined Reverend Turk Vangel and Gary Friedman of MMA Gospel Radio last Wednesday to talk about his fight versus "Head Hunter” Paul Buentello (25-10) at UFC 107 in Memphis tonight. Gospel Radio: How is your training going? Stefan Struve : Training went good. I heard I was fighting Paul after my last fight and started training a week after that fight once I got home. So, I feel even better for this fight than for my last one. ...

Friday the UFC confirmed that the contender matchup between Fighters.com's seventh-ranked middleweight and former WEC champ Chael Sonnen (22-10-1) and UFC contender “Thunder” Yushin Okami (23-4) is not scheduled for the pay per view broadcast of UFC 104 in Los Angeles October 24. ...
Bulgarian wrestler Jordan Radev (13-3), whose UFC career consisted of getting knocked out in 33 seconds by "Massacre" Andrew McFedries (7-3) and losing a UD to "Boogieman" Dean Lister (11-5), will fight Japanese middleweight Yuya Shirai (12-6) as a member of Team World at M-1 Challenge in Korea 29 August.
