Fighters.com Interview with Martin Kampmann: Fitch and Sanchez options, but a win is most important

In unfamiliar territory, Martin Kampmann is playing the waiting game. The Dane was originally scheduled to return to action last June when he was originally pitted against John Howard in a welterweight bout for "UFC on Versus 4", though Martin subsequently suffered a knee injury which forced his removal from the bout. It's the same knee that forced him out of an originally scheduled middleweight bout with Rich Franklin at UFC 72 back in 2007--an opportunity of a lifetime that was cost due to the withered conditions of a knee that has seen the cutting board on three separate occasions. Now, Kampmann is left with the memory of his last outing, a controversial decision loss to "The Ultimate Fighter" season one winner, Diego Sanchez. The two met back in March, and while Martin displayed an impressive blend of striking and effective takedown defense, it wasn't enough to sway the judges in his favor. ...

John Howard vs. Martin Kampmann set for UFC on Versus 4

A pivotal welterweight bout is beginning to take shape. John Howard and Martin Kampmann are expected to meet one another at an upcoming event under the UFC banner. While both men at one point or another stood above the rest in their class as top contenders, they have since descended to the bottom of the barrel as both men are currently riding two-fight win streaks heading into their bout. The two notables are expected to meet at UFC on Versus 4, which is scheduled for June 26 at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. ...

Fighters.com Radio - MMA Comedy: Matt Serra Compares His Abs With GSP's "12 Pack," And How He Would Modify The Dolce Diet

By John Moody In advance of a week that will be filled with serious MMA news concerning UFC 128 in the New York City area, here is a little MMA humor to get started, courtesy of former Welterweight Champion, Matt Serra. In a recent discussion with Fighters.com Radio, Serra was asked about his current weight.  In response, he veered off into comparing his waistline with his UFC boss Dana White's figure and fellow fighters, Georges St. Pierre and Martin Kampmann's abdominal structure.  He also commented on how he would modify the very popular and successful MMA weight loss program, "The Dolce Diet." Serra also hints about his time-table for his next fight. Fun stuff with Mr. Serra.  Click through to listen. (Beware of NC 17 language!) ...

What's Next For The Winners And Losers Of "UFC On Versus 3: Sanchez vs. Kampmann"?

The UFC’s recent outing on the Versus network was an entertaining show that featured several exciting finishes and several close encounters. Now once again it’s time to ask: what’s next? What does the future hold after “Sanchez vs. Kampmann”? Here’s my answer to just that: a new edition of my “What’s Next for the Winners and Losers” series of articles, now featuring “UFC on Versus 3: Sanchez vs. Kampmann”. ...

Sanchez and Kampmann take home $160k each in "Fight Night" bonuses; Roller and Bowles nab an additional $40k

This past Thursday, both Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann battled it out in what will be considered an early candidate for "Fight of the Year". Both men had their moments, with Martin dropping Diego early in the first-round before "The Dream" was able to reverse fortunes and come out stronger in the second and third rounds, rocking Kampmann on multiple occasions. The fight was tight and contentious throughout, however Sanchez was able to pick up the very close decision win over the Xtreme Couture product. While the fight has since been hotly debated, both men didn't lose much in the eyes of the promotion, as they were both awarded an additional $160k in bonuses for their "Fight of the Night" performance. ...

Best Of The Rest: "UFC on Versus 3: Sanchez vs. Kampmann"

Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another new series! Top 5 Best Moments Of "UFC On Versus 3: Sanchez vs. Kampmann"

In many ways, “UFC on Versus 3” had some weighty shoes to fill. This was the first post-WEC Versus show, and the quality would have to be rather high to make up for the diminished schedule of live MMA on Versus. While it may not have been without its controversies, most of the fights lived up to their potential and as a whole, it was a good event. But which stars shined brightest, and what moments will fans be talking about in the following weeks? Here’s my take on the matter: my top 5 best moments of “UFC on Versus 3: Sanchez vs. Kampmann”. ...

Now that the WEC has officially become a part of the ufc, the only Zuffa-owned outings on the Versus network will be the “UFC On Versus” series of live events. The next “ufc on Versus” show, which is currently scheduled for March 2011, will be a pivotal event for several reasons. This is a show that must deliver, and to help reach that goal, news recently spread of a big pair of matches slated for the first “UFC on Versus” card of 2011. Here are all the details. ...

Will Fighting for His UFC Life Bring Out the Best in Paulo Thiago?

Like many other fighters in the increasingly competitive ufc, the former highly-touted prospect Paulo Thiago knows full well that he’s fighting for his career each and every time he steps into the Octagon. Since famously making his debut by pulling off a monumental upset and TKO’ing current UFC Welterweight Championship contender Josh Koscheck, Thiago has struggled to find a secure foothold in the UFC. And now more than ever he knows that another defeat may mark the end of his UFC career. ...

UFC 121: "Lesnar vs. Velasquez" Salaries and Suspensions Released

ufc 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” was the latest in a long line of super-cards that once again proved why the UFC is the best promotion on the planet. In the main event, Cain Velasquez trounced Brock Lesnar and became the first Mexican champion in UFC history. The event didn’t rest on that laurel, however, as Jake Shields debuted successfully at 121 while Diego Sanchez and Paulo Thiago had a great fight, in addition to the always-controversial Tito Ortiz fighting and losing to Matt Hamill. The list of fighter suspensions as well as salaries have recently been made public, here are all the details. ...

ufc 121 “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” is now in the history books, and what an event it was. We saw a new champion, close victories, big victories, and several very entertaining fights. 121 was filled to the brim with fighters that have all spent time at the top of the cards in recent years, but based on their performances at the event, it’s safe to say that some will be keeping that spot for the foreseeable future while others will be tumbling both down the cards and in relevancy. As is customary after every major PPV, here are my thoughts on what’s next for some of the big winners and losers at UFC 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez”. ...

Dana White feels that Jake Shields should have gotten an immediate title shot against GSP

Dana White has made no secret in the month's leading into Jake Shields' eventually signing with the UFC, the impact that the Cesar Gracie protege could have in the organization's welterweight division. Nothing was made more evident when the former Strikeforce middleweight champion was able to successfully defend his title against former PRIDE middleweight and welterweight champion, MMA legend Dan Henderson. After a shaky first round which saw Henderson land his trademark thunderous right hand which dropped Jake, he was able to mount back an offense, and dominated the Team Quest fighter for the remainder of the fight, winning every round thereafter en route to a unanimous decision victory, which was aided through his ground prowess. ...

The Ultimate Fighting Championship recently released the official lineup for their upcoming UFC 121 event, and it should come as no surprise that Brock Lesnar defending his UFC Heavyweight Championship against Cain Velasquez has taken center stage as the show’s main event. Brock Lesnar was last seen pulling off one of the biggest, best comebacks of 2010, absorbing all former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Shane Carwin had to give him for five full minutes, then submitting Carwin via Arm Triangle Choke early in the second round. Cain Velasquez’s last fight saw him demolish the once-unbreakable chin of PRIDE FC legend Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira. UFC 121 will take place October 23 in Anaheim, California, and features a star-studded main card in addition to the big-money main event. ...
