5 Reason Why Georges St. Pierre Could Beat Jake Shields

Is it the most-important fight in UFC history? Probably not, but in some ways it comes close. Is it the biggest fight in UFC history? It’s probably not that either, although it is up there. Will Georges St. Pierre Surprise Us With His Game Plan Against Jake Shields At UFC 129?

Georges St. Pierre and his camp are great when it comes to fight game plans.  They're just wizards at the whole process, and we have no reason to expect anything less when St. Pierre enters the Octagon at UFC 129 against Jake Shields. Part of their wizardry is the surprise factor, of course.  It's always kind of hard to figure out what "Rush" will do in his fights, which is a big piece of it all. Furthering this notion, people sometimes forget that the first time St. Pierre fought and defeated Josh Koscheck at UFC 74, his ground and pound game plan was shocking. ...

Nick Diaz: Rashad Evans and Jon Jones were not real teammates

Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz will fight anyone. He's proven such accolades in the past, as he has taken fights in the lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, and even light heavyweight division. So now with the acquisition of Strikeforce into the Zuffa fold, things have gotten a little bit skewed once again. The loyalty that him and his team (Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu) share is undeniable--arguably the most loyal team in the sport of mixed martial arts. When Jake Shields and Nick Diaz were both under the Strikeforce banner, Shields moved up to the middleweight class exclusively, just so he can avoid having to run into his teammate, and eventually both men became champions. So when people ask whether Diaz will fight any of his teammates, the answer is clear. So in Diaz' opinion, were Rashad Evans and Jon Jones ever "real teammates"? Definitely, not. Because that's not loyalty. ...

UFC 129 Now Finalized: GSP vs. Shields, Couture vs. Machida, Aldo vs. Hominick, And More

Without an ounce of hyperbole, ufc 129 is shaping up to be one of the biggest and most important events in UFC history. How else do you describe a fight card held inside a stadium with somewhere in the neighborhood of 40,000 seats available? The UFC’s debut in Toronto is quickly shaping up to be the can’t-miss event of the year, and recently the UFC confirmed several bouts, locking in the card and bringing the total confirmed fight count to twelve. Here are all the details. ...

Confirming Weeks Of Speculation, Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields Targeted For April 30 At UFC 129 In Toronto

With his recent and dominating victory over Josh Koscheck at ufc 124, many fans and industry insiders think that the time is finally right for long-reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre to move up to Middleweight and pursue a heavily-anticipated dream-match with fellow long-unbeaten champion Anderson Silva. But it appears as if GSP has some unfinished business at 170 after all, and it goes by the name of Jake Shields. A former EliteXC and Strikeforce champion, Shields recently debuted in the UFC with a big win over Martin Kampmann, and it looks like he will indeed be getting his rumored title shot. Here are all the details. ...

Jake Shields Joins the Growing List of Fighters Refusing to Fight Their Teammates... Once Again, This Idea is Stupid

As more and more MMA camps swell their rosters with world-class talent, the question of whether or not teammates should fight each other will not only remain a persistent hurdle to overcome, but in fact grow in importance. Newly-signed UFC contender and former EliteXC and Strikeforce Champion Jake Shields recently weighed in on the situation. Like many other stars before him, Shields adamantly refused to fight the men he trains with, even going as far as to say that he would be willing to switch weight classes in order to avoid any teammate vs. teammate showdowns. Here are all the details. ...

Jake Shields will be cageside for "UFC 124: St. Pierre vs Koscheck II"

Jake Shields, the former Strikeforce middleweight champion, recently was successful in extending his win streak to now 15 in-a-row when he defeated welterweight stud Martin Kampmann, in his debut just a couple of weeks ago at ufc 121, in Anaheim, Cali. The Cesar Gracie product showed superior grappling skills over the well-rounded Kampmann. Though his gas tank was depleted early, by what Shields claims was the result of a 20-pound weight cut which hindered both his performance and his conditioning inside the cage. It's conceivable, considering Shields had just come off from back-to-back five five-minute rounds against middleweight standouts Jason Miller and Dan Henderson, respectively, as an 185-pound fighter before dropping back down to his natural weight class at 170. Now garnering his title shot against the winner of UFC 124's main event, Shields will be cage side for the action, possibly to formally challenge his next opponent in 2011. ...

Jake Ellenberger Takes to Twitter and Launches a Viral Tirade Against Jake Shields

If you’re an aspiring Mixed Martial Artist, nothing quite gets your name out there like a little trash-talk. Stirring the pot even just a tad can go a long way, especially if you do it in one of the UFC’s most talent-rich divisions against one of its most talented performers. Jake Ellenberger of all people recently made a huge amount of waves when he took to Twitter to lambaste, decry, and publicly call out new UFC signee and former Strikeforce and EliteXC champion Jake Shields after Shields' lackluster performance at the recent UFC 121: "Lesnar vs. Velasquez" event. ...

UFC 121: "Lesnar vs. Velasquez" Salaries and Suspensions Released

ufc 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” was the latest in a long line of super-cards that once again proved why the UFC is the best promotion on the planet. In the main event, Cain Velasquez trounced Brock Lesnar and became the first Mexican champion in UFC history. The event didn’t rest on that laurel, however, as Jake Shields debuted successfully at 121 while Diego Sanchez and Paulo Thiago had a great fight, in addition to the always-controversial Tito Ortiz fighting and losing to Matt Hamill. The list of fighter suspensions as well as salaries have recently been made public, here are all the details. ...

Jake Shields is picking GSP over Josh Koscheck, despite AKA ties

The current number one contender to the welterweight title, Jake Shields has made his choice. After a lackluster performance against Martin Kampann last Saturday at UFC 121 in Anaheim, Calif., the former Strikeforce middleweight champion has attributed his condition in the cage as part of a gruesome weight-cut prior to the welterweight tilt. Going five 5-minute rounds in back-to-back performances against the likes of Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Dan Henderson would certainly make you think that Shields has his conditioning down packed, however those two stints at the middleweight division is what ultimately (as he suggests) caused his weak performance against "The Hitman", though the Cesar Gracie protege eventually walked out the victor of a split-decision win. And with that win, Shields has now become the next man in line against the winner of GSP and Koscheck at UFC 124 in December, and if he had it his way, the French-Canadian will walk out with his belt around his waist, despite ties with the American Kickboxing Academy. ...

Dana White Defends Jake Shields, But Does He Really Deserve a Title Shot So Soon?

After his lackluster performance at UFC 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” failed to live up to the large amount of hype he had going into the bout, many UFC fans and insiders are wondering if newly-signed former EliteXC and Strikeforce champion Jake Shields really does deserve the next shot at the UFC Welterweight Championship. Shields quite literally wrestled away a close Split Decision win over Martin Kampmann in a fight that some felt should have been a draw, with others giving the win to Kampmann outright. Regardless, many remain critical of Shields, although UFC President Dana White still believes that Jake Shields has earned his title shot. Here are all the details. ...

UFC Hands Out Four $70,000 Bonuses for UFC 121: "Lesnar vs. Velasquez"

UFC 121: “Lesnar vs. Velasquez” was a great event filled with star-studded fighters and lots of up-and-coming talent, and further proved that the UFC likes to finish strong when it comes to their end-of-year activities. The UFC was more than happy to open their wallets after the event, and awarded their traditional “Of the Night” bonuses after the event, with four men pocketing an extra $70,000 for their spirited performances. Here are all the details, courtesy of Sherdog. ...
