Once again people are talking about one of the most eagerly-anticipated “dream fights” of all time. Recently, UFC President Dana White revealed that the long-awaited mach-up between UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva was closer than ever. I consider myself a huge fan of both men, and since both men are so ridiculously skilled, the MMA fanbase as a whole remains largely divided on who would win this epic encounter and why. In order to do both fighters justice, here’s a “Top 5” list of the reasons why Silva would beat GSP, which will soon be followed by a “Top 5” of why GSP would beat Silva. Let’s get to it. ...
Nick Diaz has never been the type of guy to hold anything back. He's an avid marijuana user, and makes no effort to mask any of that from the public. Along with his THC use, he's also very skilled with nun-chucks, which is found evident through many Youtube videos that can be discovered online. And while he is brash, and is prolific with his use of the "F" word in almost everyday casual conversation, one thing is also certain: Nick Diaz believes he is one of the best fighters on the planet, and guys like Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck are not on his level. ...
By John Moody (For all the video's from the MSG / UFC event check the VIDEO page) Lorenzo Fertitta and the UFC brass were in New York on Thursday stumping to bring MMA to the Empire state. Still not sanctioned, New York is one of the final key elements in the UFC's expansion strategy. In this video interview, Fertitta discusses why New York is so importatant for the UFC. Then, we pivot to discuss the two fights he wants to see happen this year. For those fans pining to see GSP v. Anderson Silva you will be happy with Fertitta's answer. Now that it’s been officially announced that Georges St. Pierre will defend his ufc Welterweight Championship against former EliteXC and Strikeforce Champion Jake Shields, many fans and insiders are assuming two things. The first is that GSP will beat Shields, and the second is that GSP will finally move up to Middleweight once he does. But hold that thought: Dong Hyun Kim, the “Stun Gun” which put a halt to Nate Diaz’s resurgent UFC career at UFC 125, has other plans. In a new interview, Kim recently said that beating Diaz gave him the confidence necessary to both call out GSP and know that he can be the one to finally end the long-reigning champion’s multi-year unbeaten streak. ...
With his recent and dominating victory over Josh Koscheck at ufc 124, many fans and industry insiders think that the time is finally right for long-reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre to move up to Middleweight and pursue a heavily-anticipated dream-match with fellow long-unbeaten champion Anderson Silva. But it appears as if GSP has some unfinished business at 170 after all, and it goes by the name of Jake Shields. A former EliteXC and Strikeforce champion, Shields recently debuted in the UFC with a big win over Martin Kampmann, and it looks like he will indeed be getting his rumored title shot. Here are all the details. ...
Welcome back to “All I Want for Christmas”, fans and friends, my special four-part Christmas Day mini-series that celebrates a day of well-wishing and familial bonding. I’ve got high hopes for MMA in 2011, and hopefully these various Top 5 lists have filled you with a sense of wonder as well. Take it as my little effort to spread some holiday cheer, to get some spirits up and inject a little positivity into a medium that so often only focuses on the negative. With that said, let’s head right into the final entry of today’s list, the Top 5 things I’m looking forward to for the UFC in 2011. ...
Welcome back to “All I Want for Christmas”, fans and friends, my special Christmas Day mini-series where I share some thoughts and hopes on what I’m looking forward to as we head towards the second decade of the new millennium. Next up is everyone’s favorite topic: dream fights. Even fans who don’t like to play “armchair promoter” love to trot out their personal picks for the fights they’d like to see. So here are my “Top 5 Dream Fights for 2011”, focusing on high-profile fights that could conceivably happen next year. Let’s get to it. ...
While the phrase “quietly making waves” can be considered a bit of an oxymoron, it almost-perfectly describes the situation UFC Welterweight Rick Story finds himself in. The three-year MMA veteran has been a bit of a background fighter in his time with the UFC, but that’s a bit unfair when you consider that he’s on a five-fight win-streak with two finishes and hasn’t lost since June 2009. Now more than ever, Story is looking to break away from the shackles of obscurity and emerge as a legitimate threat in the crowded, highly-competitive Welterweight division of the UFC. And according to a recent interview, Story would like to use former UFC Welterweight Championship contender Thiago Alves as the first stepping stone towards an inevitable title shot. ...
What an interesting year it’s been for the top-ranked and resurgent Thiago Alves. Alves entered 2010 coming off of undoubtedly the biggest loss of his career, a five-round all-out thrashing courtesy of Georges St. Pierre that happened at UFC 100. After a long, sordid history of postponements, Alves finally fought rival Jon Fitch in August in the rematch that seemingly refused to be made. Not only would Alves lose convincingly once again, he would come in overweight by almost two pounds. However, “The Pitbull” seemed to make a triumphant return at the recent UFC 124 event, as Alves practically mauled John Howard and made it look easy. In a new interview Alves officially put the Welterweight division on notice… but isn’t he getting ahead of himself? ...
It’s been a rough road for Carlos Condit in the UFC ever since he made the transition from the WEC, but now the brash and entertaining Welterweight has finally found a firm foothold in one of the UFC’s most competitive divisions. Condit entered the UFC with considerable fanfare in 2009, having been the reigning WEC Welterweight Champion for over a year, a year which included three successful championship defenses. Condit would go on to lose to the always-dangerous Martin Kampmann, but fast-forward a year and now Condit believes that he’s only a few fights away from a title shot. And, by the way… he’s right. ...
We’re now over a week removed from UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”, the event that saw long-reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre once again demolish a top-ranked Welterweight. GSP’s latest victim was Josh Koscheck, who lost to GSP for the second time and in front of an incredibly partisan crowd. It’s recently been revealed that Josh Koscheck will be sitting on the sidelines for at least sixty days in order to heal up a broken orbital bone. Many are wondering what the future holds for “Kos”, and I personally hesitated to comment immediately after the event. Now that I’ve taken some time to really think about everything, here’s my list of the Top 5 opponents Josh Koscheck should face in the immediate future. ...
While Georges St. Pierre asserted himself once again as the promotion's top welterweight fighter in the world with a very one-sided decision victory over perennial contender Josh Koscheck last Saturday, the "Kos" himself isn't feeling nearly as cheerful as his French Canadian adversary. GSP dictated the pace at UFC 124 during his successful title defense against the American Kickboxing Academy product with a stiff jab that did a lot of damage, and eventually helped aid "Rush" to clean sweep the welterweight clash, 50-45 across the board. Now after having snapped his three-fight winning streak inside the cage, Koscheck will have to overcome a stinging second loss to GSP, and a broken orbital bone to boot. ...
At the recent UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2” event, UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre proved once again why he’s regarded as one of the Pound-for-Pound best. GSP utilized the often-overlooked jab to such a degree that Koscheck’s right eye was more or less useless from the first round onward. And according to a recent report, GSP did in fact break Koscheck’s orbital bone. According to GSP’s head trainer Greg Jackson, though, even that wasn’t enough to call the fight a success. Here are all the details. ...
What’s next for Georges St. Pierre? What does the future hold for Josh Koscheck? These questions are on everyone’s mind following GSP’s brilliant performance and Koscheck’s “stand there and get hit” performance at the recent UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”. Whereas many are wondering what’s left for GSP in a division where he has basically demolished almost every single viable threat, the reverse is true for Josh Koscheck, with many wondering what kind of future he has in a division that’s ruled by a man that has dominated him twice and shows no signs of ever losing his championship. According to UFC President Dana White, the one thing neither man should be looking forward to any time in the future is… each other. Here are all the details. ...
ufc 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2” was a proving point for many fighters. Thiago Alves proved that he could still hang at Welterweight and maybe even one day return to his days of dominance. Jim Miller proved that he’s ready to make a serious run at the top of the Lightweight division. Georges St. Pierre proved he’s one of the best Mixed Martial Artists of all time. But perhaps most importantly for the UFC, UFC 124 proved that Canada is still one of the most lucrative markets for MMA. Once again a new UFC attendance record has been set, and if recent rumors concerning UFC 131 in Toronto prove true, these new numbers may soon be shattered. Here are all the details. ...
UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2” was a banner event for the promotion, one of the best MMA shows of the year in fact. Fans were treated to several impressive finishes, several entertaining three-round wars, and a fantastic performance turned in by the one and only Georges St. Pierre. The UFC recently handed out its traditional post-fight bonuses, including a “Fight of the Night” award that was selected via fan vote for the first time ever. And according to Dana White, that's never going to happen again. Here are all the details. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to another edition of “What’s Next”, where I pull out my trusty crystal globe and take a glimpse at what I think the future holds for the big winners and losers of a major MMA event. UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2” was definitely a major event, and it had plenty of big winners and losers. In the main event, Georges St. Pierre utterly outclassed Josh Koscheck in perhaps one of the best performances GSP has ever given us in his vaunted career. So let’s get right to it with another edition of “What’s Next.” ...

You’ve seen me predict how Koscheck could beat GSP, how GSP could beat Koscheck, and what would happen in the immediate future if GSP did beat Koscheck. For today’s final entry, I once again take a look at the reverse of my previous article: what would happen if Josh Koscheck beat GSP? Again, this isn’t a traditional “top five” list, just five predictions I think have a strong possibility of occurring. This third entry focuses on what I think will be in store in the very near future depending on who walks out of Montreal with the championship. So, in no particular order, here are five things I think will happen if GSP retains his championship at UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”. ...

Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to the start of a special day of articles I’ve decided to call my “Top Four Top Five”. My first list will probably be the most controversial: here are my top 5 reasons why Josh Koscheck could beat Georges St. Pierre. ...
On December 11, the UFC will present its final show for the first decade of the new millennium- UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”. And what a decade it’s been for what is now the world’s largest and most prestigious MMA organization. The UFC and MMA in general saw the rise and fall of countless legends throughout the decade, and as a whole, the fight game evolved to where a master of one technique could be beaten and even outright humbled by a true Mixed Martial Artist. And UFC 124 features one of the most well-rounded MMA fighters ever, defending his championship for the fifth straight time. As is customary for a big card, here are my official picks and predictions for some of the big match-ups of UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”. ...

Thiago Alves has left the MMA world with many questions since his last fight against Jon Fitch, in which he was dominated on the ground. The primary question is basic – Will we ever see again the intimidating version of Thiago Alves, who dropped the flying knee on Matt Hughes? Can the fierce, bomb throwing, attacking version of Thiago Alves make a return against John Howard on Saturday night in Montreal at UFC 124? ...
Time flies, fans and friends. It does indeed. 2010 was a monumental year for MMA as a whole, and we’re quickly approaching the point where it’ll be over and done with. Josh Koscheck knows exactly how to act and exactly what to say in order to get people riled up. In a very short amount of time he’s become one of the biggest villains the UFC has to offer: this is a man that routinely gets booed out of arenas no matter where the event he’s attending is taking place. And Koscheck is at his most controversial when talking about his upcoming opponent, Georges St. Pierre. So, what is Koscheck’s latest salvo in the one-sided verbal war that has seen GSP fire back almost no shots of his own? Let’s find out. ...
An exciting fighter always runs the risk of being finished. That’s simply the nature of the game, it’s the risk involved with going out and trying to win and win big from the moment the cage door closes. How an exciting fighter comes back from a big (T)KO is usually more important than him getting (T)KO’d in the first place. And for former UFC Welterweight Championship contender Dan Hardy, who recently got KO’d by Carlos Condit, the comeback trail leads through the same path he’s walked on for most of his career. In a new interview, Hardy recently stated that he hasn’t changed much since the loss. Here are all the details. ...
