At UFC 132, we barred witness to the seeming resurrection of Tito Ortiz. Ortiz came out and demolished Ryan Bader, once viewed as a top prospect, with shocking ease. Coming into this fight, it seemed as if Ortiz was destined for failure and would leave UFC 132 a defeated and ultimately retired fighter. But now, many people are wondering what’s next for “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy”. Here’s my answer to just that: the top 5 opponents for Tito Ortiz. ...
The UFC’s scheduled return to Brazil has been getting some pretty big match-ups. UFC 134: “Rio” is currently expected to feature Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami and Forrest Griffin vs. Mauricio Rua. There’s even a hot rumor going around that old-school legend Royce Gracie will make his UFC return at the event. But it’s Griffin/Rua I’d like to talk about now, mostly because of the very, very heated exchanges I’ve had with Rua fans. But put down the flame shield, this is not "that" kind of piece. Here’s what I think: both of these fighters could beat each other, but Rua seems more likely to win and I don’t see Griffin dominating “Shogun”. ...
A rematch for the ages has been added to the upcoming UFC event, which will take place in Rio de Janiero, Brazil on August 27, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship makes it's return to the mixed martial arts mecca for the first time since 1998. A previously mentioned between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami has already been speculated to be the main-event of the evening, which is also a rematch of a fight that originally took place in 2006 under the now defunct Rumble on the Rock banner in Hawaii. However, perhaps a more intriguing rematch has been pitted between former champions Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Forrest Griffin, which could see co-main event status as it is a pivotal fight in the 205-pound division. ...
While both men have already fought against each other twice over, it looks like there's still some beef cooking between former light heavyweight champions Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin. Recently, the fan-favorite Forrest took to Twitter to release some of his quick jabs that have made him one of the leading men in the business, and it looks like Ortiz may have taken the comments to heart and lashed out in proper Tito manner. Now, it doesn't look like it would be much of a stretch should these two men meet again in the foreseeable future. ...
"ufc 126: Silva vs. Belfort" featured an electrifying night of fights. Champion Anderson Silva deftly defended his title with a rousing first-round knockout of former friend and teammate Vitor Belfort with a surprising front kick which floored the Brazilian. Following up with a few additional blows was all that "The Spider" needed to end the night of the former light heavyweight titleholder. Forrest Griffin made a successful return to the cage, following a year-plus spent away from the cage, when he defeated former middleweight champ Rich Franklin, defeating the legend in a clean sweep decision victory. The night produced several more exciting fights over, however some of those bouts came with their price. ...
Following ufc 126 this past weekend, a lot of new story lines have arose. Anderson Silva re-solidified himself as not only the best middleweight in the world, but arguably best pound-for-pound fighter and the greatest of all time, when he knocked out Vitor Belfort in impressive fashion in his middleweight title bout. Forrest Griffin deftly defeated former champ Rich Franklin in a pivotal light heavyweight match-up, moving him closer to the title, however Jon Jones beat him to it when he submitted then-undefeated prospect Ryan Bader with a second-round submission. However nothing surprised me more then some of these fighter pay-outs with some seeming valid, while others have me scratching my head in humble confusion. ...
It’s that time again, fans and friends. At the close of every major MMA event, most fans have one question on their mind: “what’s next?” And following some of the fantastic performances and shocking surprises that went down at UFC 126 “Silva vs. Belfort”, there’s certainly a lot to think about. Here’s my take on the matter with the latest entry into my “What’s Next” series of articles, featuring all the big stars from UFC 126. Let’s get to it. ...
Another one went into the history books tonight, fans and friends: UFC 126 “Silva vs. Belfort” is now a thing of the past. Despite a few misses, especially the underwhelming bout between Miguel Torres and Antonio Banuelos, the night was eventful to say the least. Jon Jones earned a surprise title shot shortly after demolishing Ryan Bader, as it was announced that then-current top contender Rashad Evans had blown out his knee. Now Jones will face his date with destiny and challenge for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship against Mauricio Rua. And in the main event, Anderson Silva busted out a bizarre front kick that nevertheless knocked Vitor Belfort senseless, prolonging the win-streak that has seen “The Spider” never lose, not even once, in his time inside the Octagon. Here are the full results to UFC 126 “Silva vs. Belfort”. ...
It’s that time again, fans and friends: I’m going to attempt to debut a new series of articles, and depending on the feedback it gets, it may or may not go the way of the dodo. This new series will be called “Finally Final Thoughts”, and will focus on an upcoming major MMA event the day before it's set to occur. It’s a collection of any and all random, remaining thoughts I have on a big event that wasn’t covered in my various other topics: Picks and Predictions, What If He Wins, 5 Reasons Why, etc. So let’s get this new series started with my final thoughts on UFC 126 “Silva vs. Belfort”. ...
As one of the best cards of the year begin tomorrow night, all fighters stepped on the scales for their respective match-ups for "ufc 126: Silva vs. Belfort" which takes place at the Mandalay Bay and Events Center in Las Vegas. A middleweight title clash pitting the reigning and defending 185-pound kingpin Anderson Silva against former teammate Vitor Belfort has become official, as both fighters stepped on the scales at 185-pounds on the nose. All fighters successfully made weight, all but one. ...
On February 5, 2011, the one and only UFC will hold its highly-anticipated “Silva vs. Belfort” event, featuring an epic showdown between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort, with Silva’s UFC Middleweight Championship on the line. Also, former champions Rich Franklin and Forrest Griffin meet in what should be a hard-hitting fight filled with non-stop action. Still, some fans may be asking themselves: what are the best reasons to check out this card? Here’s my answer to just that: 5 reasons to look forward to UFC 125 “Silva vs. Belfort”. ...
We’re now only a few days away from UFC 126 “Silva vs. Belfort”. In the main event, long-reigning UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva will put his UFC Middleweight Championship on the line against what could be his toughest opponent to date, former UFC champion and heavy-handed striker extraordinaire Vitor Belfort. The co-main event will also be an interesting match-up, as former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin takes on former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin. As is customary, here are my official “picks and predictions” post (covering who I think will win and why) for UFC 126 "Silva vs. Belfort". ...

Hello again fans and friends and welcome to another entry into the “What If He Wins?” series of articles, where I attempt to both ask and answer the following question: what does the future hold for a major MMA star if he wins his next big fight? Today’s entry focuses on former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin, who is scheduled to face former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin in what’s sure to be an awesome fight. So, what if Griffin wins? Here’s what I think will happen. ...
It shouldn't be any surprise, but "UFC 126: Silva vs. Belfort" is officially a sellout. UFC officials released the information today, though it was only a matter of time. The pay-per-view event features one of the best assembled cards of the new year, touting five former champions on the all-star card, as well as a much anticipated title defense pitting current champ Anderson Silva as he defends his middleweight title for a record-setting eighth time as he takes on former teammate Vitor Belfort in the evenings headlining bout. ...
Welcome back to “All I Want for Christmas”, fans and friends, my special four-part Christmas Day mini-series that celebrates a day of well-wishing and familial bonding. I’ve got high hopes for MMA in 2011, and hopefully these various Top 5 lists have filled you with a sense of wonder as well. Take it as my little effort to spread some holiday cheer, to get some spirits up and inject a little positivity into a medium that so often only focuses on the negative. With that said, let’s head right into the final entry of today’s list, the Top 5 things I’m looking forward to for the UFC in 2011. ...
Remember when Forrest Griffin was known as the steel-chinned gamer who came to fight in every single one of his matches and would tough through some crazy punishment in order to get the heart-felt win? That memory seems like it’s growing more and more distant as time goes by. Instead, Griffin is now equally as infamous as he is famous: the one-sided beatdown he suffered at the hands of Anderson Silva still follows the man around to this day. In a recent phone interview, it even caused Griffin to cut an interview short… right before stating that he would likely poison Anderson Silva if the two ever had a rematch. Here are all the highlights. ...
Rich Franklin has walked a long and tough road back to a championship opportunity ever since famously losing to Anderson Silva for the second time way back in 2007. Big wins over Travis Lutter and Matt Hamill were spoiled by a close Split Decision loss to Dan Henderson, a big win over Wanderlei Silva was virtually erased after a KO loss to Vitor Belfort. Now Franklin is once again riding high with a KO win over Chuck Liddell. Heading into his next fight with Forrest Griffin in February at UFC 126, Franklin recently took the time to speak on a variety of subjects. Here are the highlights from a recent interview with 411 Mania. ...
While doing my early-morning ritual of navigating the internet to get the latest juicy bit of ufc/MMA news, I came across a very interesting article on MMA Manifesto. The article lists the Ten Greatest UFC Pay-Per-View Draws of All-Time, according to estimates. It’s a fascinating piece, and it makes me wonder: what do these high-drawing athletes say about our sport? Here’s the first of a two-part article where I reveal what I think these fighters represent, and why they’ve made the UFC so many millions. ...
A previously rumored event for January 29th, which was dubbed as ufc 126, has been pulled off the table. While the event, which was to be a pay-per-view card, was under consideration by the promotion, has now been dubbed null altogether. UFC 125, which is expected to be headlined by current lightweight champion Frankie Edgar defending his title in a rematch against fellow wrestler Gray Maynard, will be taking place on January 1 of the new year, and now what was originally considered to be UFC 127, will now become 126. ...
An exciting lightweight match up has been added to the seemingly stacked UFC 127 card, which will be taking place in February of next year, in Las Vegas, Nev. The headliner, a rumored bout pitting UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva against former teammate Vitor Belfort is tentatively scheduled for the event, as well as light heavyweight bouts pitting former champions Forrest Griffin and Rich Franklin against one another, as well as Ryan Bader versus phenom, Jon "Bones" Jones. Said lightweight match up, which will be Kenny Florian against Evan Dunham, is a fight that no true mixed martial arts fan would want to pass up. ...
Former bantamweight champion, Brian Bowles, was expected to make his return to the cage at wec 52 in November, in hopes to bounce back from a disappointing loss to current title-holder Dominick Cruz at WEC 47. The once undefeated fighter tore his way to a title shot after dispatching some of the best in his weight class, in Will Ribeiro, Damacio Page and Marcos Galvao, en route to a title shot against then champion, Miguel Torres. Seemingly unbeatable, the Georgia boy made quick work of the mullet-wonder with a swift first round knockout, cementing his spot as the best bantamweight in the world--though his glory and accolades didn't hold up for all that long. ...
As the new year looms closer and closer, the Super Bowl weekend card looks to be a star studded affair. Previously mentioned, the main event of the evening is looking like it will be a battle between Brazilians when Vitor Belfort challenges former teammate Anderson Silva for the ufc middleweight title. Also on the card, a battle between light heavyweights Ryan Bader and Jon Jones will battle it out for top contenders status in a stacked 205-pound division. Seemingly a shoe in for co-main event honors, the bout was trumped when a recent news breaker was published, which will garner a lot of attention come fight time. ...
Pride is still finding it's way into the UFC fold. Former Pride light heavyweight contender Ricardo Arona, a permanent fixture in the MMA scene overseas, is claiming that not only has he been signed to the world's largest organization, but that he will be eligible to make his debut as early as November. ...
The fight everyone wants to see, will be on the back burner until 2011, apparently. UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has undergone successful knee surgery this past June, and is still in recovery mode. According to UFC President Dana White in a recent interview with Sportscenter revealed that he intends on making Rua's return in the Spring or early Summer of next year. ...
Welcome back fans and friends to another edition of “Great Moments in MMA History”. Today’s moment celebrates what many consider to be the launching point of the UFC into the mainstream, at a point where Mixed Martial Arts was still widely considered “human cockfighting”. The parent company of the UFC, Zuffa, was having trouble turning a profit after acquiring the UFC back in 2001, and all involved were aware of how increasingly sink-or-swim their predicament was becoming. Despite UFC President Dana White’s early hesitations, a plan was put forth, a TV show was pitched, and history was made. It was one of the most refreshing ideas to come to reality television in ages, and helped introduced the nation to the UFC and its varied casts of characters. It’s “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 1, and what a season it was. ...
Forrest Griffin, the first ever winner of the famed reality series "The Ultimate Fighter", has become a bit of an entrepreneur in the days he spends outside of the octagon. While the former light heavyweight champion has been on the mend since having necessary shoulder surgery following his win over Tito Ortiz at UFC 106 in November of last year, he has taken the opportunity to follow up his best selling book "Got Fight?" with another reader-pleaser, and is now en route on a book tour across the country. ...
While Jon Jones has faced the toughest opposition of his career most recently, he's made it look easy and efficient. Even in a losing effort (albeit a disqualification) to TUF veteran Matt Hamill, Jones looked every bit as dominant as he has in wins over perennial contender's Brand Vera and most recently, Vladimir Matyushenko. It's hard to say what will be next for the 205-pound wrestling stud, but Jones in the mean time is enjoying his most recent triumph none the less, which now moves him to 11-1 overall, and marks his fifth win, inside the octagon. ...
The future has never looked brighter for Jon “Bones” Jones. Coming off of yet another all-out destruction of a Light Heavyweight that should have tested his limits, Jones seems ready and able to break into the top tier and truly cement his status as one of the sport’s best. Rumors have already begun swirling over who his next opponent will be, with many industry reports saying that, no matter the opponent, the next fighter “Bones” will face will be one of the top dogs in the UFC. Looking forward, here are my personal picks for the top 5 opponents for Jon Jones. ...
Is it hard to remain motivated when you're donned the best in what you do?
Not just on a small scale--but with near universal acceptance?
Anderson Silva, the UFC's middleweight kingpin, has been referred to as the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet by media, fighters, and fans alike.
Always possessing a somewhat child like demeanor, with his fun-loving spirit and nonchalant attitude, Silva has come under heavy fire in the last couple years for some of his lack-luster and bizarre performances ...
