UFC President Dana White has been criticized for the promotion’s all-bases-covered, iron-clad contracts that prevent UFC fighters from fighting in any other promotion.  But, White has an advantage over promotions that don’t follow suit.  When White wants a fight, he gets the fight if the fighters he wants matched up are under contract.

James Toney in the UFC, Good for MMA?

Article Posted: March 5th, 2010 | By: Reverend Turk Vangel | Comments: 2 | Comment Now

It was announced that heavyweight boxing champion “Lights Out” James Toney (0-0) has signed a five-fight deal with the UFC. The latest is that the contract is the first ever non-exclusive contract that the UFC has done. The signing of Toney can be looked at as a freak show, a shot to beat Strikeforce to the punch or a vehicle to prove that MMA is greater than boxing but no matter how you view it the important question is what will this do for the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA).

As I surf the internet bouncing from one mixed martial arts(MMA) site to the next a reoccurring theme occurs. The discussion of Pride Fighting Championships, the fighters, the rules and now a select number of fights being show on Spike TV. This brought back fond memories for me and made me think about the current state of MMA and what made Pride stand out from the crowd.

Brazilian heavyweight “Cigano” Junior dos Santos (10-1) climbed to the fifth spot in Fighters.com’s December Heavyweight Rankings after knocking out “Hurricane” Gilbert Yvel (33-14-1) at UFC 108 in Las Vegas January second.  He’s now just beneath his sensei, fourth-ranked “Minotauro” Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-5-1), and just out of the UFC’s big three champions, one of whom has held a portion of the UFC title for the last two years.

Fedor is unbelievably good. If he tossed around Brett Rogers and than brutally knocked him out. Imagine what he would do to Brock Lesnar who’s pathetic record is only 4-1. How on earth can you become a champ of UFC with that record?

The UFC doesn’t have the best fighters in the world, the UFC just has the flashiest fighters. Most of them don’t even have actual black belt degrees in what they claim they have. For instance, Frank Mir claims to have a second degree blackbelt that he supposedly got after only 4 years of training. That is bull considering that I have a second degree black belt in bjj and by the regulations, you can’t even get a brown belt that fast. Lesnar can’t even punch hard, he throws sissy punches and the referee just stops the match regardless if any damage is even being inflicted. In all, the UFC is a sissy league, I’ll put my money on any fighter coming out of Pride any day, now that was a league of true warriors. Dan White is nothing more than a pimp and all of his fighters are his ho ho hoes.

fedor is the most respectful fighter of all (the best for a while). ufc could learn alot from him if they would remove the cotton from their ears and put it in their mouth.

Oscar, that’s not really the issue. The UFC has the best MMA fighters in the world that fight in an octagon. That is all that is claimed isn’t it? I don’t hear any of them say they’d go dominate K-1 etc. And Lesnar has a hard punch man, its not terribly flashy, but it would feel like a cement block off the melon. What he did to Mir’s face while lying on top of him was uncanny that he could generate that much force in such a short distance. I agree that maybe his straight punches aren’t that spectacular, but I sure as fuck would not want to be hit by any hooks or elbows from that dude. Mir is legit, his credentials are legit. This isnt old school BJJ anymore, it doesn’t require 80 years of your life to advance, and these guys do it full time. Pride was bad ass, kicking in the face was awesome.

The UFC is amazing, and it has the best fighters, in my opinion. Who wouldn’t agree? I’ll write only a few names to remind you all: Anderson Silva, Rampage, Minotauro, Vandeley Silva, Randy Couture, Rashad Evans, and others. Guys, they’re awesome! The rules are something to watch, too. They proctect the fighters from big injuries all the time. The refrees are very well prepared for acting, while the extinct Pride refrees allowed fighters be beaten up when they couldn’t fight back. So, let’s enjoy the sport and practice it when possible too. Hugs

Oscar you dumb bitch you must know nothing thats why gilbert yvel came into ufc from pride and his ass knocked out in the first round by dos santos. nobody in pride can beat any of our chmapions and thats a guarenteeand most of our top contenders can kill any champion in pride

If Fedor cared about Fans he would fight in the UFC cause thats what fans want. Its all about money with them russian’s and im not being racist. Fedor is making lots of money with CBS and M1-Global and the UFC has offerd more its obvious. If fedor joined the UFC no dout they are going to match Fedor up against the best UFC has to offer. Fedor and his managers cant risk that loss so Fedor will probably never join the UFC unless he is trying to be done with MMA, All it takes his frist loss in the UFC for a retirement ticket. The UFC will LOL at everyone who thought Fedor was the best crushing the competition CBS and Strike Force has to offer. Next time you see Fedor it will probably be a guy who was nothing in Pride-FC or some washed up UFC fighter or some noobie knock out artist.

fedor is a good fighter but i also think deohge is right about fedor getting a loss in the ufc. they want him to stay unbeaten so they can make a ton of money. he should just man up and go to the ufc fuck the money. he’ll still make a lot of money no matter what. no good fighter fights in pride anymore ufc signed them all from GOMI to MINITORO thier all in the ufc now. fedor last few wins were against washed up tim sylvia, old mark coleman. brett rogers is a nobody compared to dos santos, cain velasquez. stephen struve will beat brett rodgers.

I love the UFC fanboys and their attempts to undermine the credibility of the greatest MMA fighter we have seen. Fedor is an amazing fighter, the fighter chosen by other fighters as being the greatest. Yet a bunch of UFC fanboys think they know better. Of course, this is what the internet is about, anybody with a keyboard can make a post and think they are an expert. Would Fedor beat Brock, who knows for sure, I am not a fortune teller, and even though I admire Fedor I dont think I have seen the same Fedor that fought a few years ago. Yet he has in his last 3 fights fought 3 guys ranked in the top 10 by INDEPENDENT websites and experts, so I am loathe to say he wouldn’t beat Brock. They may not have been UFC fighters, but the UFC does not have every person in the top 10 in every division. And Arlovski and Tim Sylvia were UFC HW champions not long before. In saying that Fedor has fought nobodies you are in effect saying that the UFC HW championship has been held by nobodies and insulting your own loved brand.

This debate gets played over the internet everywhere, the UFC line is Fedor is doging the latest bunch of UFC heavyweights. Look at Fedors record, it includes 4 or 5 guys who have held the UFC HW title. Yet the UFC fanboys say he is dodging UFC fighters. Lets get real here folks, the business is about money, you know that green shit that you can’t smoke. The fact is that Fedor signed for what he thought was in his best interests, where he was able to make the most money from. If he could have made the most by joining the UFC he would have done so. Seriously, Fedor is the reigning king, so the real question is why is he criticised for not going and chasing down the pretenders to his throne. Surely if people wanted to knock off his crown and become the new king they would go and find him and fight him, even if that meant fighting in Strikeforce. Brock didnt join Strikeforce, nor did Cain, Dos Santos or Velasques…… perhaps a more accurate comment is they dodged fighting Fedor by joining the UFC.

Robby Brewster seems typical of the UFC fanboy, shooting his mouth off saying how good UFC is compared to Pride. Let me quote “nobody in pride can beat any of our chmapions and thats a guarenteeand most of our top contenders can kill any champion in pride”. Lets excuse the poor boys typing and obvious lack of English skills and not hold that against him. Obviously he hasn’t heard of Anderson Silva, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua or Minotauro Nogueira. Nogueira came to the UFC and immediately won the interim HW crown, Anderson Silva is currently MW champ, and Shogun is LHW Champ in many peoples eyes after his “loss” to Lyoto Machida. Seems to me that some Pride fighters haven’t done too badly at all in the UFC. I would’t expect them all to, some have passed their best days, fighting takes its toll and even the best lose their edge and get made to look ordinary, ask Chuck Liddell, Mirko CroCop….

Fedor doesnt need to beat Brock to be the best, he doesnt need to fight him to prove anything to anybody except the uneducated UFC fanboys, and quite frankly they are as dumb as dogshit. His records speaks for itself, the respect that he has from MMA fighters all over the world is far more important than any pimple faced UFC fanboy. Ask Josh Rogan, Wanderlei Silva, Randy Couture, Big John McCarthy and many more who the greatest is and they all have said Fedor. I have more faith in their opinions than a bunch of internet fanboy trolls.

I think people get in this now called a sport because they see the money first and respect 2nd. Fedor fought other men that trained and won. If he lost half the fights it wouldn’t matter because he caught our eye. He is the quiet b4 the storm, letting the fans and his opponents know that you dont have 2 put on an act 2 get the job done. If it was my job 2 fight believe that i would put it all on the line. I dont like gambling, but i will finish the game. THE END.
