Dan Hardy vs. Chris Lytle tapped as main-event for "UFC on Versus 5"

Another addition of the "UFC on Versus" installment will be making it's return August for the fifth-time. There, heavy handed strikers and fan favorites Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle will meet in the main-event of the evening. It wasn't too long ago that both these men were considered to be some of the top contenders in the welterweight division, however after subsequent losses they now find themselves on the bubble and with another loss could very well be seeing their last days within the UFC. ...

UFC's Dan Hardy calls out Lytle; Chris says "Let's do it"
UFC's Dan Hardy calls out Lytle; Chris says "Let's do it"

If there was any one feeling that Dan Hardy could be feeling, it would be "frustrated". The one-time UFC title challenger is now reeling from a three-fight losing streak which began with his loss to current champion Georges St. Pierre in March of last year and finally culminated in his most recent loss to friend and fellow "banger" Anthony Johnson. The bout took place last Saturday and served as the co-main event of the evening of the Spike televised UFC Fight Night 24 event. The match initially, on paper at least, promised to be a fan pleasing slug fest with two of the divisions more dynamic strikers, however it turned out to be a 15-minute grappling match with the larger Johnson coming out on top. Now wanting what he calls a "real fight", Hardy has since called out veteran and former contender Chris Lytle, and the the fan-favorite slugger has since obliged. ...

Chris Lytle Won't Turn The Lights Out Just Yet: He'll Take A Break And Then Continue Fighting

Right now it’s pretty tough to be a fan of Chris Lytle. For the first time in a long time, “Lights Out” looked well on his way towards a spot atop the ufc’s ever-crowded Welterweight division and perhaps even one day a shot at the UFC Welterweight Championship. Then Chris Lytle met and lost to Brian Ebersole at UFC 127 in Australia. It was a tough loss for a tough man that once admitted that he can’t keep starting over. Recently, however, Chris Lytle confirmed that he would not be retiring. Here are all the important details. ...

UFC 127: Hunt, Noke, Lytle and Ebersole pocket $75k in "Fight Night" bonuses

At UFC 127 in Sydney, Australia, a lot of interesting upsets and unpredictable finishes occurred. Chief among them, I thought I would never see Michael Bisping finish someone on the feet, since collectively I've heard that he is the "pillow hands" of the middleweight division, that could have also been a whole lot of fighters that were in attendance at the Acer Arena were not necessarily the biggest fans of "The Count". While Bisping's feat was impressive in of itself, several men shined brighter and earned the evening's coveted "Fight Night" awards and all took home an additional $75k in bonus earnings. ...

UFC 127 Live Attendance, Gate Receipts, And Post-Fight Awards/Bonuses

ufc 127: “Penn vs. Fitch” marked only the second time in the UFC’s long history that the promotion traveled to the “Land Down Under”. What's Next For The Winners And Losers Of UFC 127: "Penn vs. Fitch"?

Here are the full results as well as some early commentary on UFC 127: “Penn vs. Fitch”. ...

What If He Wins? Featuring Chris Lytle
What If He Wins? Featuring Chris Lytle

At UFC 127, Chris Lytle faces tough veteran Brian Ebersole in Ebersole’s UFC debut. Lytle was originally expected to face fast-rising UFC star and former WEC champion Carlos Condit. Even though Condit was forced to pull out due to an injury, this is still a very important fight for “Lights Out”. But what happens if Lytle wins? And how will his performance at UFC 127 affect his standing in the UFC’s ever-crowded Welterweight division? Here’s my answer to just that: a new edition of “What If He Wins?” featuring what I think will happen if Chris “Lights Out” Lytle beats Brian Ebersole at UFC 127 “Penn vs. Fitch”. Let’s dive right in. ...

5 Reasons Why Brian Ebersole Could Beat Chris Lytle

Although it’s lost a bit of its value due to Carlos Condit being forced off the card, UFC 127 “Penn vs. Fitch” features another major Welterweight showdown besides the eponymous main event: Chris Lytle vs. Brian Ebersole. For Lytle, this is another big, important step on the comeback trail that has seen "Lights Out" put together arguably the best win-streak of his expansive career. For Brian Ebersole, this is the culmination of a career that has seen over ten years of active competition and sixty-two professional fights. So who will win this battle of veterans hoping to make one last, serious run at the title? Here’s my answer to just that: a new entry in my “5 Reasons Why” series. Carlos Condit Pulls Out Of Fight With Chris Lytle, Replacement Named

While many fight fans (including myself) were looking forward to ufc 127 for its main event that pits BJ Penn against Jon Fitch in a key welterweight showdown, I was also looking forward to a planned match between Carlos Condit and Chris Lytle. “Lights Out” Lytle is my original “dark horse favorite”, and I was looking forward to seeing him take one step closer to championship relevancy by taking on the very-tough Condit. But unfortunately, that match will no longer be happening. Carlos Condit has been forced to pull out of his fight with Lytle due to an injury, and a replacement opponent has already been named. Here are all the details. ...

Always Honest, Chris "Lights Out" Lytle Knows He Can't Keep Starting Over

Chris Lytle is a survivor. That’s the best way to describe the kind of man that has always found a way to persevere despite facing numerous setbacks throughout a career that has spanned over a decade. “Lights Out” has always been the type of fighter that only ever flirts with championship relevancy, and never emerges as a championship contender outright. Heading into his upcoming fight with Carlos Condit at ufc 127, Lytle aims to finally break that trend once and for all, and in a new interview, he was frank in admitting that this may be his last major opportunity to do so. Here are all the details. ...

Carlos Condit is Ready for Georges St. Pierre, and Sees Him as Just Another Obstacle

It’s been a rough road for Carlos Condit in the UFC ever since he made the transition from the WEC, but now the brash and entertaining Welterweight has finally found a firm foothold in one of the UFC’s most competitive divisions. Condit entered the UFC with considerable fanfare in 2009, having been the reigning WEC Welterweight Champion for over a year, a year which included three successful championship defenses. Condit would go on to lose to the always-dangerous Martin Kampmann, but fast-forward a year and now Condit believes that he’s only a few fights away from a title shot. And, by the way… he’s right. ...

Top 5 Opponents for Josh Koscheck
Top 5 Opponents for Josh Koscheck

We’re now over a week removed from UFC 124: “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck 2”, the event that saw long-reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre once again demolish a top-ranked Welterweight. GSP’s latest victim was Josh Koscheck, who lost to GSP for the second time and in front of an incredibly partisan crowd. It’s recently been revealed that Josh Koscheck will be sitting on the sidelines for at least sixty days in order to heal up a broken orbital bone. Many are wondering what the future holds for “Kos”, and I personally hesitated to comment immediately after the event. Now that I’ve taken some time to really think about everything, here’s my list of the Top 5 opponents Josh Koscheck should face in the immediate future. ...

Carlos Condit vs Chris Lytle possible for February 27 event
Carlos Condit vs Chris Lytle possible for February 27 event

Carlos Condit, the former WEC welterweight champion, has now shown what he's made of. In his most recent performances, Condit has gone from potential ufc drop out to a viable contender in the title picture. After a close split-decision loss to Martin Kampmann and an equally close split-decision win over the talented Jake Ellenberger in his first two UFC performances, Condit has now come into his own. After two hotly contested rounds against Rory MacDonald, a former lightweight and welterweight champion in the King of the Cage promotion, it looked like the Canadian stud was edging Carlos in the bout by the time the match reached the final round at UFC 115, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Coupled with his grit and his never say die attitude that has made him popular with the fan's over the years, Condit returned with a vengeance in the final round, mounting the welterweight prospect and finishing him off with strikes for the TKO victory in the final round. The win reminded everyone why Carlos was thought to be a force to be reckoned within the 170-pound division, and in turn helped set up his most impressive performance to date. ...

UFC 123 Prelims to air on Spike TV: Munoz vs Simpson, Brown vs MacDonald

The ultra-successful "ufc Prelims" special, which has served as a lead in to the Pay-Per View portion of UFC bouts, will be returning on Nov. 20, when the organization visits Auburn Hills, Mich. for UFC 123. Headlining the nights festivities will be former light heavyweight champions Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida in a non-title bout, with a trilogy between former welterweight champions Matt Hughes and BJ Penn being completed that night, serving as the co-main event of the evening. Prior to these bouts, a pair of middleweights and 170-pound fighters will be in action as part of the Spike TV special, which will have the potential to reach 96.1 million people at home in these United States. ...

Matt Serra and Mirko Cro Cop Top the Injured List Following UFC 119

ufc 119: “Mir vs. Cro Cop” was a very physical night of fights for many of the performers competing on the night’s card, and as such, several injuries were sustained in the course of the event. The Indiana Gaming Commission has recently released their list of fighter suspensions following the event, and topping the charts are both Matt Serra and Mirko Filipovic, each of whom received indefinite suspensions. Even Mark Hunt was suspended indefinitely. Here’s how it all broke down. ...

UFC 119 Third Largest Event in Indiana, UFC Hands Out $70,000 Bonuses

Just how big is the UFC? Apparently it’s big enough that their recent UFC 119 event was one of the biggest in recorded Indiana history. According to MMAWeekly, 15,811 fans packed into the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana for a total gate of $1,613,337. Fans were treated to a slightly-underwhelming show that I honestly believe isn’t getting half the credit it deserves in the early days of reflection and post-fight analysis. The UFC opened up its pocketbooks after the event and issued $70,000 bonuses in the form of their often-used but sometimes-confusing “Of the Night” awards. Here’s who got what and why. ...

What's Next for the Winners and Losers of UFC 119: "Mir vs. Cro Cop"?

UFC 119 was an interesting event to say the very least. We saw Ryan Bader beat Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and cement his status as a top-division athlete. Chris Lytle put himself “into the mix” for the first time in years (some cynics would say “ever”) with his dominant performance over former UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra. Sean Sherk returned and will likely become a lightning-rod of heated debate due to his controversial win over Evan Dunham. All this happened, and then Frank Mir knocked out Mirko Filipovic. So what’s next for the big winners and losers of UFC 119? Here are my thoughts. ...

UFC 119 Results: Frank Mir Knocks Out Mirko Cro Cop, Chris Lytle Dominates Matt Serra

Another UFC event has come and gone, and what a shocking (but perhaps also underwhelming?) night of fights it was. The Spike TV “Prelims Live” special delivered two great fights for free, setting up what would be a Pay-Per-View card with its fair share of highlights as well as not-so-good moments. In the main event, former UFC Heavyweight and Interim Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir put a dramatic end to what had been a largely underwhelming performance when he surprise-KO’d feared Croatian striker and semi-revered PRIDE legend Mirko Filipovic. Here are the full results to UFC 119: “Mir vs. Cro Cop” as well as my thoughts on the card. ...

UFC 119 Weigh-In Results: All Fights Official, No Fighters Miss Weight

The time for talk is finally over: UFC 119 is upon us. The event is scheduled to take place today at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. The stacked card features Mirko Filipovic vs. Frank Mir, Ryan Bader vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Chris Lytle vs. Matt Serra, Evan Dunham vs. Sean Sherk, and more. Weigh-ins were held yesterday and not a single fighter came in over the limit. All the fights are official, so here are the weigh-in results for UFC 119 “Mir vs. Cro Cop”. ...

Top 5 Questions That UFC 119 Will Answer
Top 5 Questions That UFC 119 Will Answer

ufc 119 is only a day away, and the final promotional pushes are being done to get fans excited and interested in a card that sees Frank Mir take on Mirko Filipovic in the main event. We at Fighters.com have covered UFC 119 extensively, and I myself have recently posted my predictions for the event. Those predictions were primarily based on what questions I think will be answered come UFC 119, and the more I think about, the more I think that UFC 119 will answer some very important questions for some very important fighters. So here’s my list of the top 5 questions that UFC 119 will answer. ...

The Latest on UFC 119: Cro Cop Cleared + Predictions

The upcoming ufc 119 event is rapidly approaching, and it looks to be a solid event from top to bottom. The main event fight between Mirko Filipovic and Frank Mir had recently come into question after it was revealed that “Cro Cop” had hurt himself in training. Apparently much ado was made about nothing, as the UFC recently put up a press release confirming that the PRIDE FC legend had been medically cleared to compete. Here’s what the official release said, as well as my predictions for the card. ...
