Antonio Rodrio Nogueira Says Chael Sonnen Is Not A Good Example Of MMA... And He's Right, Of Course

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is a very well-spoken, well-respected MMA veteran. Widely praised as one of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu artists to ever step foot in both a ring and a cage, “Big Nog” is bother a former PRIDE FC champion and a former UFC champion. Of course, Nogueira is only kind until he’s pushed. And Chael Sonnen has been pushing the buttons of most Brazilian UFC fighters for a long time now. In a new interview, Nogueira gave a little bit back in his own way: by calling Sonnen a detriment to the sport. And when you think about it, he’s right. Here are all the details. ...

Chael Sonnen's Preliminary Thoughts On Brian Stann: Pretty Much What I Expected

With the recent news that Chael Sonnen will make his much-anticipated ufc return in a fight with Brian Stann, Sonnen has been busy doing what he does best: getting back into the public eye through a series of mostly-hilarious, sometimes-bizarre interviews. Another one recently hit the internet, and in it, Sonnen calls out all manner of people, although mostly just the people he’s called out before. He does toss a few new insults their way, however. And in a very interesting twist, it seems as if Sonnen’s trash-talking strategy for his fight with Stann will center on calling out everyone but Stann. Here are all the details. ...

Some Early Thoughts On Brian Stann vs. Chael Sonnen

Recently, it’s been more or less confirmed that Chael Sonnen will be making his return to active MMA competition later this year in a fight against Brian Stann. There were rumors that Sonnen would fight Lyoto Machida, but that appears to no longer be the case. As expected, there’s a lot of fierce debate going on right now as to what Sonnen’s return means for the UFC, its Middleweight division, and MMA in general. I’m no stranger to topics revolving around Chael Sonnen, so here’s what I think. ...

Anderson Silva Calls Chael Sonnen A Doping Loser... And He's Right, Of Course

Anderson Silva is a controversial man, although he only rarely says controversial things. Most of his cynics focus on his in-fight antics, which at times have bordered and even crossed the line. In terms of his pre-fight and post-fight interviews, though, Silva remains mostly respectful… mostly. Recently, Anderson Silva gave his reaction to Yushin Okami, Silva’s next scheduled opponent, training with Chael Sonnen. Sonnen and Silva had an incredibly bitter rivalry, and in their fight, Silva would win by fifth-round submission after spending five rounds getting pounded on. And as one would expect, Silva’s words to Sonnen were far from pretty. Here are all the details. ...

Chael Sonnen Suspended Indefinitely... I Finally Have Some Sympathy For Chael Sonnen

In news that is sweeping the internet, it has recently been confirmed that the California State Athletic Commission has decided to uphold the indefinite suspension of former UFC Middleweight Championship contender Chael Sonnen. With a vote of 4-1, the CSAC voted to uphold its suspension of Sonnen’s fighting license until it expires in June of this year, with the soonest Sonnen would be able to re-apply for a license being June of next year. Here are all the details. ...

By John Moody Rain, rain, rain.  Something about rain that is conducive for writing.  Creates a pensive mood here on Broadway and 77th in the Big Apple. *My first MMA interview was with Kalib Starnes at UFC 71 in Las Vegas.  Starnes beat Chris Leben at that event, the under card of Chuck Liddell v. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.  Oh how Starnes and Leben’s careers have gone in different directions.  Starnes recently lost to Patrick Cote at RingSide MMA 10 in Montreal.  Leben will be in a featured fight against Wanderlei Silva at UFC 132. ...

Chael Sonnen Officially Sentenced For Money Laundering Scheme

Ever since he first gave an interview about his then-upcoming fight with Anderson Silva, former ufc star Chael Sonnen has been the topic of much controversy, debate, and discussion. Sonnen’s bizarre downward spiral was one of the biggest stories of last year, as Sonnen would be submitted in the fifth and final round, test positive for elevated levels of testosterone afterwards, and then plead guilty to a felony money laundering charge. Now the dust has finally settled: today, Sonnen received sentencing for his part in a mortgage fraud. ...

Chael Sonnen Wants Michael Bisping... I Want Chael Sonnen To Finally Admit That He's Insane

It appears that Chael Sonnen is in the news again. And in typical Sonnen fashion, he took time out of his busy schedule of personal problems and scandals in order to spit venom at another fighter. My initial gut reaction was to make a post spitting just as much venom back, but there’s a saying that goes something like “an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind”. But there’s also the saying about the pot calling the kettle black. In calling out Michael Bisping, Chael Sonnen pretty much makes himself out to be the blackest pot on the face of the earth. But I have to admit, this is one fight I’d love to see. ...

Chael Sonnen calls out Michael Bisping
Chael Sonnen calls out Michael Bisping

To: Joe Silva, Matchmaker Extraordinaire, Ultimate Fighting Championship Re: Spitsbing & his tainted victory Joe: Former ufc middleweight contender Chael Sonnen has a long ways to go before he steps foot back inside the octagon. After having been speculated for using performance enhancing supplement's after his spirited fifth-round submission loss to champion Anderson Silva last August, Sonnen did himself no favors thereafter when he plead guilty to money laundering charges--a federal offense that can carry a sentence of over twenty years in prison and a maximum fine of $500,000. UFC President Dana White has since frozen the brash-middleweight fighter's contract, suspending Sonnen for the interim until he can get his head on straight before he makes his way back inside the octagon. However, that hasn't stopped the Team Quest product from calling out several opponent's upon his return, namely Michael Bisping. ...

Chael Sonnen Takes Time Out Of His Busy Schedule As A Convicted Felon To Call Out Anderson Silva Again

Much-maligned ufc Middleweight fighter Chael Sonnen is back in the news again. And for the first time in a long time, it’s not because of his questionable judgments. This time it’s not steroids, nor an insurance scam, but Sonnen is up to his usual tricks nonetheless. Sonnen is back in the headlines for his recent comments regarding Anderson Silva’s thrilling knockout over Vitor Belfort at UFC 126. Read what Chael had to say after the jump. ...

No date in mind for Chael Sonnen's return says Dana White
No date in mind for Chael Sonnen's return says Dana White

The estranged middleweight contender Chael Sonnen will not be returning to the Octagon in the foreseeable future. After originally raising eyebrows following his spirited fifth-round submission loss to Anderson Silva, where the Oregon native was linked to Performance Enhancing Drugs due to high levels of testosterone found in his system--which was ultimately attributed to hormonal injections for a disease called hypogonadism. Since then, the former title challenger has plead guilty to Money Laundering charges, a felony punishable up to 20 years in prison and $500,000 worth in fines. Needless to say, his life isn't exactly where he would like it to be, and UFC President Dana White believes that the 185-pounder needs more time reassess his current dilemma. ...

Sonnen suspended by UFC following Money Laundering guilty plea

Chael Sonnen, needless to say, has problems. The former UFC middleweight title challenger will now be sidelined, for the time being, from his mixed martial arts career. Following a reduced sentence handed down by the California State Athletic Commission whom originally penalized the Oregon native on suspicion of steroid use after elevated levels of testosterone were found present in the fighters' post-fight medical proceedings last August, Chael has now been pegged to money laundering, a federal offense that can carry a 20 year sentence along with a $500,000 fine. With everything considered, UFC President Dana White felt that it was in the best interest of the fighter to spend some time away from the octagon in order to reevaluate his life and get things in order. ...

Sonnen vs Akiyama set for UFC 128, 10 days before Chael is sentenced for Money Laundering; pleads Guilty

Chael Sonnen should work in a grave yard, so he can bury his own career. While news of a reduced sentenced off of an original 12-month suspension handed down by the California State Athletic Commission following a post-UFC 117 drug screening would be generally good news after a tumultuous period of time spent contemplating his mixed martial arts career, it looks like Sonnen will now have time to reflect on what was a burgeoning career as a realtor--well, that's all down the drain now. It has been reported that Sonnen has plead guilty to federal charges of Money Laundering just early today and could be facing jail time. All this comes after the Oregon native is scheduled to face PRIDE veteran Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 128. ...

Chael Sonnen says he wants an easy fight, so he's looking for Wanderlei Silva

Former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen will be returning to the octagon in the first quarter of 2011. The Oregon native was last seen in action when he was pitted against reigning middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva last August at UFC 117 in Oakland, Cali. Sonnen dominated the Brazilian for a majority of the fight, even dropping the dynamic striker in the opening moments of the fight. However, a mental lapse in the fifth and final round allowed Chael to be submitted in the waning moments of the fight, and with a triangle choke in place, Sonnen tapped out with less than two minutes to go in the fight. Following the 185-pound contest, Sonnen was suspended on initial suspicion of steroid use when post-fight medicals showed that the 33-year-old had elevated levels of testosterone in his system. ...

With that said, let’s head right into the final entry of today’s list, the Top 5 things I’m looking forward to for the UFC in 2011. ...

No TUF, No Problem: Wanderlei Silva Would Still Glady Fight Chael Sonnen

Despite the fact that an official announcement was supposed to be made sometime last week, the thirteenth season of the popular UFC reality TV show “The Ultimate Fighter” remains without coaches at the time of this article's release. For quite some time it was rumored that Wanderlei Silva would coach opposite Chael Sonnen, building on the fireworks seen in a classic encounter between the two. It’s now been confirmed that neither Silva nor Sonnen will be a coach for TUF Season 13, but if “The Axe Murderer” had his way, he’d meet Chael Sonnen anyway. In fact, Silva recently threw down the gauntlet in a new interview. Here are all the details. ...

A TUF Pill to Swallow: No Chael or Wanderlei for "The Ultimate Fighter" Season 13, Brazil Soon to Come

Many are still left wondering what the future holds for the popular long-running UFC reality TV show “The Ultimate Fighter”. The coaches for the landmark thirteenth season of TUF have yet to be announced, although a new report indicates that Dana White will announce the coaches either today (December 16) or tomorrow (December 17). Another report indicates that Brazil is one of the major competitors in the hunt to see which country gets an international version of TUF first. And one of MMA’s premiere journalists recently confirmed that neither Wanderlei Silva nor Chael Sonnen will coach TUF Season 13. Here are all the details. ...

Chael Sonnen suspension reduced to 6-months; could be back in action by March

Chael Sonnen stepped before the California State Athletic Commission along with his legal council, in accordance with his appeal for a one-year suspension handed down before the CSAC for his post-fight drug screening, following UFC 117 last August. Sonnen was part of the main-event of the August tussle opposite of current middleweight champion, Anderson Silva. Chael dominated the Brazilian for four-and-a-half rounds before succumbing to a triangle choke, being submitted in the waning moments of the final round. Following the match, Chael had received word that starting September 2, he would be serving a one-year suspension for allegedly taking Performance Enhancing Drugs, originally believed to be steroids due to elevated levels in testosterone. ...

Nate Marquardt Still Believes He's Top-Level, Dana White and I Disagree

I’ve said it a lot recently, but it bears repeating: it’s tough to be a fan of Nate Marquardt nowadays. Nate “The Great” has once again hit a major stumbling block on his three-year journey towards another championship opportunity: he recently lost a #1 Contender match to Yushin Okami at ufc 122 in Germany. Marquardt’s situation now closely mirrors the one he found himself in when he lost to Chael Sonnen back in February of this year: many are wondering where he stands in the Middleweight division. Marquardt, however, remains confident in his abilities, even while UFC President Dana White recently speculated that (much like his controversial feelings on Kenny Florian) Nate Marquardt chokes in big fights. ...

Marquardt readies for Okami and ponders Silva: “It’s been known to me that Anderson has holes”

UFC middleweight Nate Marquardt may say he won’t be fighting with pressure on his shoulders against Yushin Okami at UFC 122, but some may find that hard to believe.  If he wins, he gets a title shot – a rare second title shot.  It’s that simple.  All that is left to do in his career is to take home the UFC middleweight strap, which clarifies just how much is on the line in Germany for Marquardt.  “Nate the Great” shared with Fighters.com that his focus for Okami – and a title shot, will be razor sharp, something that wasn’t the case when he lost to Chael Sonnen at UFC 109. ...

The UFC Returns to Brazil in 2011
The UFC Returns to Brazil in 2011

In the midst of an international expansion that is virtually unrivaled in all of Mixed Martial Arts, the ufc’s absence from one foreign country in particular remains perplexing. Consider the fact that a massive chunk of the best of the best that compete in the UFC are from Brazil, and then consider the fact that the UFC hasn’t ran an event in Brazil for over a decade. But fear not, the hiatus is now over. According to Graciemag International, 2011 will mark the UFC’s return to Brazil for the first time since 1998. ...

Despite going 1-2 in UFC, Mario Miranda signs new 4-Fight Deal

Heading into his ufc debut against "The Ultimate Fighter" alumnus in Gerald Harris last March, Mario Miranda was pegged as being the next big thing in the middleweight division. After all, at 6'4, undefeated as a professional with a perfect 10-0 record, and with only two decisions to his name, it was easy to see why this Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt was sought after by the worlds largest organization. However, after a disappointing knockout loss to Gerald Harris and an additional loss to grappling ace Demian Maia at UFC 118, with a win over former UFC title challenger David Loiseau sandwiched in between, it looked like the Brazilian's career inside the octagon would be short lived. ...

Wanderlei Silva, despite barbs with Sonnen, Feels year-long suspension Too Long

Chael Sonnen hasn't made a lot of friends amongst those in the MMA community as of late--especially those of the Brazilian persuasion. Most famously, the former title challenger in Sonnen came under some fire when he was stuck with former PRIDE middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva for an extended amount of time, traveling with "The Axe Murderer" between gym openings and fan signings. The whole duet can be featured on the WandFightTeam Youtube channel, where Silva confronted Sonnen face to face concerning some of the outlandish things Chael had to say, primarily about his native Brazil and good friends in the Nogueria brothers. However, even after the fall out, Wanderlei feels that the year long suspension that the Team Quest product is beginning to endure, following a failed drug screening post-UFC 117, is too much even for the brash middleweight fighter. ...

Ed Soares calls Chael Sonnen a friend; Surprised by Allegations

If having your 'friend' ask you to "pray to whatever Demon effigy you prance and dance in front of with your piglet tribe of savages that I decide not to CRUCIFY you" is what Ed Soares' idea of what a friend should be, than George Bush and Osama bin Laden are sharing a condo on the coast, drinking margaritas and laughing about 'stupid American bureaucracy', and plan to adopt an underprivileged child from North Korea. The Ed-Chael feud had been well documented in the lead up heading into ufc 117 where Chael faced Soares' client Anderson Silva just last August. After many outlandish claims directed towards Soares himself and Anderson Silva primarily, it was later discovered that after failing to capture the UFC middleweight title from "The Spider" after a dominant four-rounds turned in (before the Brazilian submitted Sonnen with a late-rally fifth-round arm bar), Sonnen was found to have been possibly under the influence of performance enhancing drugs. Despite the fall out, and all of the negative tension shared in the media, Ed sympathizes with Sonnen and even goes as far as to say that his 'friend' is innocent of said allegations. ...

Anderson Silva doesn't think Sonnen Deserves Rematch
Anderson Silva doesn't think Sonnen Deserves Rematch

Much like the rest of the MMA world, Silva was shocked by the recent allegations that former foe Chael Sonnen, whom Silva had battled against at UFC 117 in what turned out to be a comeback win for "The Spider" when he eventually submitted the part-time real estate agent in the fifth round in their title fight. In what will go down as one of the better fights in 2010, Sonnen put up an almost savage-like beat down on the reigning defending middleweight champion, however the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt battled back from adversity after being taken down and pummeled for four-and-a-half rounds, and submitted his rival with a triangle choke. Why the stoppage was marred in controversy for a short period of time, Sonnen's post-fight drug test will blemish his career for the rest of his life. Following the loss, a spirited one at that, the former Olympic wrestling hopeful, was found to have under the influence of performance enhancing substances due to highly elevated testosterone levels, according to the California State Athletic Commission. ...

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria Has Absolutely No Sympathy for Chael Sonnen

It took a while, but former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has clued us all in on how he feels about Anderson Silva arch-rival Chael Sonnen. Sonnen had some less-than-kind words for both Nogueira brothers in the weeks/months leading up to his historic showdown at UFC 117, comparing a Nogueira black belt to a Happy Meal toy and saying that Antonio Rogerio Nogueira looked like “Roy Nelson in a Frankenstein mask” when he met Jason Brilz at UFC 114. As one could expect, the famed MMA legend had absolutely no sympathy for the brash-talking fighter who recently found himself right in the middle of a steroids controversy that he still has yet to speak on. ...

2010 World MMA Awards; Nominees widdled down and we have our Finalists

As the year is coming closer to an end, the now annual World MMA Awards, which is hosted by Fighters Only Magazine, has recently announced their finalists for the December 1st event, which will take place once again in Las Vegas, Nev., which has become a hot bed for all things fighting related. The 2009 event opened up to a large audience, and has become a propellant in the mixed martial arts world, opening up the eyes to a mainstream audience, by the community taking leaps and bounds in order to legitimize itself as not only a legitimate sport, but one that deserves that same sort of recognition that most others receive, here in these United States. ...

Vitor Belfort vs Anderson Silva at UFC 127, Super Bowl Weekend

Well, it isn't the New Years show at UFC 125 as most expected, but it's a championship fight none-the-less. Vitor Belfort recently announced via his twitter account that he is expecting to face Anderson Silva for the middleweight title, on Super Bowl weekend, for UFC 127 on February 5. The event is expected to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, though no venue has been tapped yet for the event. ...

In Typical Dana White Fashion, UFC President Talks Steroids in MMA

He’s one of the biggest bad boys in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts…and he’s not even a fighter. He’s the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the number-one MMA promotion in the world. Both revered and reviled for his take-no-prisoners profanity-fueled methods of communication, when UFC President Dana White speaks, we all have to listen. Whether you love him or hate him, I can’t imagine anyone’s opinion on MMA mattering more than Dana White’s, and that includes the often-silent Fertitta brothers who own more of the company than he does. And White has recently chimed in with his opinion on the Chael Sonnen steroid scandal. ...
