Former UFC Heavyweight and Interim Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir finds himself at a career crossroads once again. Mir is on a two-fight win-streak with one stoppage, but that one stoppage came after three very tedious rounds of non-action against Mirko Filipovic. His recent three-round manhandling of Roy Nelson has also been subject to criticism. So, where does Frank Mir rank in the UFC’s increasingly-crowded upper-echelon? Here are five opponents that would really prove whether or not Mir will be fighting for a championship anytime soon. ...
What does the future hold for Brock Lesnar? The former UFC Heavyweight Champion and highly-controversial mega-draw has been sitting on the sidelines ever since it was announced that he had come down with another case of diverticulitis, the disease that once nearly took his life. Many fans and insiders openly wondered if this disease, or the way Lesnar would treat it, would cost him his UFC career. We now have our answer, courtesy of UFC President Dana White. Read on for all the details. ...
Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is now stuck between a rock and a hard place. Lesnar, the largest pay-per-view draw in the UFC, has recently been sidelined once again with a second battle with diverticulitis, an intestinal disease which previously had him sit out from active competition for just under a year due to the severity of the condition. Brock was originally scheduled to be taking on Junior dos Santos in a title eliminator at UFC 131 where the two men were to headline the event. Now, Lesnar has since been replaced by former interim champion Shane Carwin, to which current titleholder Cain Velasquez thinks that the promotion made the right decision. ...
In news that has been sweeping the internet, Brock Lesnar has now officially pulled out of his upcoming Heavyweight showdown with Junior dos Santos. It’s a fight that the entire thirteenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” was designed to promote, and it would likely have been to determine the next man to challenge for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. However, Lesnar has begun another battle with diverticulitis, the disease that once nearly took his life. Read on for my own personal reaction to this rather shocking story. ...
As the anticipation began to for the upcoming return to Vancouver, Canada for ufc 131, the event has taken a huge hit. Brock Lesnar, the former UFC heavyweight champion, has been forced to pull out of his upcoming bout with Junior dos Santos come this June. Lesnar, who in the past has battled with diverticulitis, has been diagnosed with the illness once again and will have to face some serious life altering choices in the very immediate future. Brock could face a subsequent surgery to help combat his battle with the intestinal disease and should he opt for the procedure, it could put a halt to his career altogether. ...
Earlier today, UFC President Dana White revealed that the former heavyweight champion in Brock Lesnar has been removed from the upcoming UFC 131 main-event. There, Lesnar was originally slated to face off against top contender Junior dos Santos in a bout that would determine the next title challenger. However, Brock has since been diagnosed once again with diverticulitis, an intestinal disease that had previously seated him just over a year away from the cage. Now in his place, former UFC interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin will now be taking on Junior in place of Lesnar, filling in for headlining duties. ...
Number one pick Len Bentley was poised from the beginning to be one of the leading candidates to take the whole show. With a record of 9-4 overall, with some big show experience under his belt, Bentley put himself in a class of his own when he entered onto the thirteenth season of "The Ultimate Fighter", and it showed. As mentioned, he was the number one pick for Team Lesnar, which was headed by the former UFC heavyweight champion in Brock. A strong wrestler with heavy hands, Bentley would be a bad match-up against just about everyone he went up against. Lesnar and the fellow coaches felt that a bout with Ryan McGillivray would be the path to least resistance for Bentley, which would later become a big mistake. ...
You know they’re coming. I know they’re coming. Perhaps they’ve been here all along, or maybe they’ve been spying on us for decades. They could want our water, or it could be their one weakness. They could come in peace, or they could just as easily come to kill us all. Aliens, my friends. The truth is out there, but the real question is: what do we do with that knowledge? In order to prepare us all for the inevitable, here are the top five fighters I believe could survive an alien apocalypse. ...
The highly anticipated first episode of "The Ultimate Fighter" season 13 has now been completed, and there is some immediate fall out from the show. Shamar Bailey, a Strikeforce veteran was recognized as one of the top prospects on the show. And while the coaches recognized his obvious talent, it was Brazilian Junior dos Santos which was able to snatch up Bailey as his first-pick amongst the 14 welterweight would-be hopefuls. And as has been the formula in the past, Dos Santos managed to pit his best fighter against the perceived weak link of Brock Lesnar's team in order to get the ball rolling and remain in control early in the competition. ...
One of the top prospects of the welterweight field, Myles Jury, is now out of the competition. Tonight, the first episode of the thirteenth season of "The Ultimate Fighter" has wrapped up. Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar coaches opposite of Junior dos Santos a field of 14 welterweight hopefuls who will work there way through the competition to meet in the finals this June in Las Vegas to determine the next winner of the TUF series, who will battle for the six-figure UFC contract. An early favorite for the show in Jury, is now sidelined from the show during a freak injury and he has since been replaced. ...
Everyone has been talking about it: Strikeforce is now a Zuffa-owned company. It’s become apparent that the upstart promotion will continue to operate as its own entity for at least the next two years or so, but after that it’s anyone’s guess. So of course, many are hoping that there comes a day where the UFC’s best meets Strikeforce’s best. I too can’t wait for that day, so here’s a little something we’ve all been discussing lately: my top 5 Strikeforce vs. UFC matches. Let’s get to it. ...
Antonio Silva has emerged as one of the sports top ranked heavyweights in the world since he's joined Strikeforce in November of 2009. Despite suffering a loss upon his debut to fellow Brazilian Fabricio Werdum, he has since rattled off an impressive three-fight win streak which includes wins over UFC vet Mike Kyle, former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski, and most recently a second-round TKO victory over the legendary Fedor Emelianenko. And despite all of his recent success, and his impending tournament performance, Silva still has his eyes on one man that he has seen as an unprofessional man in this sport: Brock Lesnar. ...
A previously announced bout featuring heavyweight stars Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos has since been officially announced by the UFC. Former heavyweight champion Lesnar will be taking on contender in dos Santos for the number one contender spot for the heavyweight crown. The two men are currently filming the thirteenth season of "The Ultimate Fighter" which features a full cast of welterweight hopefuls. The season premier's on March 30 and the series will conclude on June 4 where the finals will take place at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. ...
As the new season of "The Ultimate Fighter" approaches, a lot of people have heard different things. First, the upcoming Thirteenth season was to feature both a middleweight and welterweight field, however UFC officials have made this particular season an all welterweight cast, expelling some top level competitors who tried out in the higher weight-class, including DREAM and Strikeforce veteran Karlo Amousou and now soon-to-be UFC fighter Chris Weidman, to name a few. Now, the head honcho's of the largest mixed martial arts organization have revealed the full cast of welterweight's who will be featured on the upcoming season, which will be coached by heavyweight studs Junior dos Santos and former champion Brock Lesnar. ...
By John Moody Dana White took time recently to speak with Fighters.com and hit on some of the biggest topics in MMA. White reacts to the coming Strikeforce Heavyweight tournament, Randy Couture's pending return to the cage, and how Brock Lesnar will fare as a coach on the Ultimate Fighter reality show. Good stuff from the boss, and he too thought Frankie Edgar was going to lose when he was rocked early in the first round against Gray Maynard. Click through to watch the video. ...
When Junior dos Santos first heard that current titleholder Cain Velasquez was injured from his bout with Brock Lesnar in October of last year, he was a little peeved, to say the least. He lashed out very publicly in the media, claiming that the new champion sustained no damage in his fight with Lesnar and is stalling--which was later disproved with the torn rotator cuff that Velasquez later had subsequent surgery on that would sideline the American Kickboxing Academy product for approximately 6-8 months. However now, cooler heads have prevailed. He may not exactly have his number contenders spot secured at the moment, however he does have two very interesting opportunities ahead of him. Junior will have the chance to coach the ultra-popular reality series "The Ultimate Fighter", and will be facing the largest pay-per-view draw in former champ Brock Lesnar later this Summer, both of which have helped satisfy the fan-favorite dos Santos. ...

Straka has been a regular on the MMA beat for several years and was the creator and host of the former FoxNews.com MMA show - Fox Fight Game. In this sit-down, he opines on the fate of Brock Lesnar as a coach on the Ultimate Fighter show, Mark Cuban's passion for MMA, the potential for the UFC to create a 24hr cable channel and much more. For many reasons, fans and insiders alike are already predicting that Junior dos Santos will beat Brock Lesnar when the two inevitably clash once the landmark thirteenth season of the popularity UFC reality TV show “The Ultimate Fighter” draws to a close. I personally think that Lesnar does pose some potentially major problems to JDS, but given Santos’ track record inside the Octagon, I’ve got no problem admitting that I’ve joined the majority in calling for a crushing JDS victory. Recently, legendary MMA fighter Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, one of the head trainers of Black House and thus one of the driving forces behind the success of JDS, gave us the first glimpse of the wrecking machine’s strategy as he prepares for his showdown with the former UFC Heavyweight Champion. ...
Fans continue to be divided on former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar being named one of the head coaches for the upcoming thirteenth season of the popular and long-running UFC reality TV show "The Ultimate Fighter". Some cynics are already decrying Lesnar as the worst coach in the show's history, but I vehemently disagree. In fact, here's five big reasons why Lesnar will make an excellent TUF coach. ...
As a longtime fan of Roy Nelson, I was equal parts sad and frustrated when news broke out that contract negotiations would force him to sit on the sidelines. Now that it’s been revealed that “Big Country” will be back in the Octagon soon against former champion Frank Mir, Nelson is rightfully back in the public spotlight. In a new interview, the always-entertaining Heavyweight recently revealed that he still plans to become a ufc champion one day and will fight anybody and everybody to achieve that goal. ...
It took quite some time to finally find out who’s coaching the next season of the popular UFC reality TV show “The Ultimate Fighter”, but the major announcement mostly made up for the long period of waiting. The MMA world is buzzing now that Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos have been named the TUF 13 coaches. UFC President Dana White recently commented on the situation, and gave some very interesting insight into the eleventh-hour decision of Lesnar/JDS as coaches. ...
The story is only a few hours old and already it’s swept the internet: Junior dos Santos and Brock Lesnar will coach opposite one another on the thirteenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter”. Many fans are looking past the season entirely and focusing on the inevitable clash of the two coaches. But me? While I definitely have a lot to say regarding Lesnar/JDS (read all about it here), I’m also really looking forward to the next season of TUF. And why is that, exactly? Here are five reasons why I’m already looking forward to “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 13. ...
Recently, a collision course of heavyweight stars have been announced as coaches for the upcoming season of "The Ultimate Fighter", as Junior dos Santos will risk his number one contender status when he takes on former champion Brock Lesnar later this year. The two heavyweight standouts will be featured for the thirteenth season of "TUF" which includes an all-welterweight cast, and at the conclusion of the season finale which is scheduled for June 4 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, both Brock and Junior will meet in a likely pay-per-view main event which is rumored for June 11 in Vancouver, which is anticipated to be dubbed UFC 131. Though the recent news has only come to light as of yesterday, the Brazilian striker has already come up the favorite over the former titleholder. ...
As was to be expected, the entire MMA world at large is buzzing about the announcement that Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos will coach opposite one another on the landmark thirteenth season of the long-running UFC reality TV show “The Ultimate Fighter”. Many around the internet are eagerly and already looking forward to the end of the season, when the two coaches fight each other. Well, I just can’t let a big topic like this go by without throwing my hat into the mix, so here’s my take on Brock Lesnar vs. Junior dos Santos. ...
Few of us figured we would see Brock Lesnar going head-to-head with Junior dos Santos on TUF 13 in a coaching duel. Just as few guessed we would witness Lesnar take on the Brazilian super striker in June. But on Tuesday, that's exactly what UFC President Dana White told us is going to happen. And with that news, we have a very interesting fight to look forward to midway through 2011. Here's what these fighters bring to the table. ...
Following months of speculation, the new coaches of the next season of "The Ultimate Fighter" have now been revealed, and the results have the mixed martial arts world abuzz with child-like wonderment. Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is not visiting the WWE anytime soon, since he will now be one of the featured coaches for the thirteenth season of the ultra-popular reality show. The North Dakota native will be pitted against current number one contender Junior dos Santos for the all-welterweight season of "TUF". ...
Even though 2010 finished very strong, the latter half of the year certainly wasn’t a good time to be a Roy Nelson fan. Nelson faltered against Junior dos Santos, taking the fiery KO machine to the third round but getting pummeled throughout their bout. Then problems revolving around previous contracts kept Nelson out of action for the rest of 2010. But it’s recently been announced that Nelson has a new opponent, and it’s a big one: Frank Mir, former UFC Heavyweight and Interim Heavyweight Champion. And while it’s not the fight I wanted, it’s certainly better than nothing and, in fact, should be a very impressive proving point for either fighter. ...
Brock Lesnar is a man of few words. He doesn't like cameras, he doesn't like attention, so a coaching stint on the next season of "The Ultimate Fighter" would seem like the furthest thing from reality...but it could very well be happening soon. Recently rumors have circulated concerning the next season of TUF, as far as who will take up the coaching slots. Fighters ranging from Wanderlei Silva, Chael Sonnen, Urijah Faber, and Dominick Cruz have all been discussed as possible candidates to coach the upcoming field of welterweight/middleweight fighters, however all signs point to former champions Lesnar and arch rival Frank Mir. ...
Frank Mir has faced a long and difficult road since returning to the UFC in 2006 after recovering from a gruesome motorcycle accident. Since then, Mir has fought to the top of the Heavyweight division, at one time becoming the UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion. Since that big win over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 92, Mir has gone 2-2 with both losses by (T)KO. Most recently, Mir competed in a horrible three-round snooze-fest against formerly-feared striker Mirko Filipovic that saw Mir pick up the last-minute KO win. After a strong negative reaction towards a possible third encounter with Brock Lesnar, it appears that rising Heavyweight star and former “Ultimate Fighter” cast member Brendan Schaub will be the next man to challenge Frank Mir. Here are all the details. ...
It seems as if everyone is wondering what the future holds for former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar nowadays. Lesnar is coming off a humbling loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121, and the vultures started circling the moment Velasquez TKO’d Lesnar at 4:12 of Round 1. Many cynics predicted that Lesnar would even leave the sport and return to the WWE, where he first made his mark on the mainstream. UFC President Dana White was quick to shoot down such rumors, and he recently addressed the situation once again. ...
