UFC 132 “Cruz vs. Faber” is now in the history books, and what a history lesson it was. Without the benefit of a UFC mega-draw, headlined by a championship fight in a smaller weight division featuring a champion that was fighting in the UFC for the first time, UFC 132 was an event at odds with itself. But in true UFC fashion, this is an event that lived up to and far exceeded its perceived potential. Fans and friends, we’ve got a strong contender for “Event of the Year”, and UFC 132 may have beaten out the amazing UFC 129, which I said would be the benchmark for the rest of the year. Here are the full results as well as some early commentary for UFC 132 “Cruz vs. Faber”. ...
On July 2, 2011, the UFC will hold its highly-anticipated “UFC 132” event, featuring champion Dominick Cruz defending his UFC Bantamweight Championship against the only man he’s ever lost to, Urijah Faber. Also, MMA legend Wanderlei Silva returns from an extended absence and challenges tough, veteran brawler Chris Leben. Still, some fans may be asking themselves: what are the best reasons to check out this card? Here’s my answer to just that: 5 reasons to watch UFC 132 “Cruz vs. Faber”. ...
Hello again fans and friends, it’s time for another round of “Prelims Predictions”. As my new “dark horse favorite”, I’ve done my best to constantly highlight the under-appreciated “UFC Prelims LIVE” specials that air on both Facebook and Spike TV. At their worst, they serve as additional free fights that are usually passable and mostly entertaining. And at their best, these preliminary mini-events are huge sleeper hits that sometimes steal the show. And there’s a lot of good-looking fights on the UFC 132 undercard, so let’s dive right in with “UFC 132 ‘Cruz vs. Faber 2’ Prelims Predictions”. ...
Hello once more fans and friends, I’m pleased to announce that it’s time for another round of my “A Closer Look” series! For the next two days, I’ll be diving head-first into this weekend’s UFC 132 fight card, which is shaping up to be one of the UFC’s big can’t-miss events of the summer. Much of the main card is loaded with talent and intrigue, and right now I’ll be giving a quick rundown of the undercard. This is “A Closer Look At UFC 132”, and these are the preliminary bouts scheduled to air live first on Facebook and then on Spike TV. ...
We can all now welcome West Virgina into the mixed martial arts fold. While the plans to take the sport all over the world has been a tedious process, the UFC--which is spear headed by President Dana White, has come leaps and bounds. Recently, the organization sold out the fifty-thousand-plus Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada, and have already held an event in Sydney, Australia earlier this year at the famed Acer Arena--another sellout. However, the MMA powerhouse organization has still seen some resistance here in the United States, however they can now mark West Virginia off the list. Former WEC champ Brian Bowles is among those whom are particularly happy for the newly regulated state. ...
This past Thursday, both Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann battled it out in what will be considered an early candidate for "Fight of the Year". Both men had their moments, with Martin dropping Diego early in the first-round before "The Dream" was able to reverse fortunes and come out stronger in the second and third rounds, rocking Kampmann on multiple occasions. The fight was tight and contentious throughout, however Sanchez was able to pick up the very close decision win over the Xtreme Couture product. While the fight has since been hotly debated, both men didn't lose much in the eyes of the promotion, as they were both awarded an additional $160k in bonuses for their "Fight of the Night" performance. ...
Hello once more fans and friends and welcome to the second part of today’s new entry into my “5 Reasons Why” series. For the first part, detailing the five reasons why I think Damacio Page could beat Brian Bowles when the two meet on March 3 as part of the UFC’s “UFC on Versus 3” event, please click here. Now it’s time for the reverse: here are the five reasons why I think Brian Bowles could beat Damacio Page. ...
As we head closer and closer to the next “UFC on Versus” or “UFC Live” special, all eyes are rightfully on the main event, a major showdown between top Welterweight fighters Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann. But as a diehard fan of the WEC, there’s one fight at “UFC on Versus 3” that I find especially appealing. Former WEC Bantamweight Champion Brian Bowles will make his return to MMA and his debut in the UFC on March 3 against the always-tough Damacio Page. It’s a fight that’s got “sleeper hit of the night” written all over it, so to give it some of the hype it deserves, here’s a new “5 Reasons Why” two-parter. First up: the five reasons why Damacio Page could beat Brian Bowles. ...
Now that the WEC has officially become a part of the ufc, the only Zuffa-owned outings on the Versus network will be the “UFC On Versus” series of live events. In order to battle the negativity that goes alongside a drastically reduced live event schedule, the UFC is looking to give back to Versus fans with a stellar “UFC on Versus 3” card. To further that goal, four new fights have been announced for the event, featuring several notable former WEC stars as well as some of the UFC's emerging talent. Here are all the details. ...
Now that the “ufc on Versus” specials are all that the UFC has to offer up to MMA-starved fans on the Versus network, a lot of time, effort, and planning is going into the first “UFC on Versus” event of 2011. “UFC on Versus 3” is set to feature match-ups like Diego Sanchez vs. Martin Kampmann and Takeya Mizugaki vs. Francisco Rivera. Most recently, two additional bouts have been all-but-confirmed for the event, featuring both major UFC stars and former WEC champions. Here’s the latest on the “UFC on Versus 3” card. ...
Former bantamweight champion, Brian Bowles, was expected to make his return to the cage at wec 52 in November, in hopes to bounce back from a disappointing loss to current title-holder Dominick Cruz at WEC 47. The once undefeated fighter tore his way to a title shot after dispatching some of the best in his weight class, in Will Ribeiro, Damacio Page and Marcos Galvao, en route to a title shot against then champion, Miguel Torres. Seemingly unbeatable, the Georgia boy made quick work of the mullet-wonder with a swift first round knockout, cementing his spot as the best bantamweight in the world--though his glory and accolades didn't hold up for all that long. ...
New details have been revealed for the upcoming WEC 52 event, including the card’s headlining attraction. Sherdog.com reports that Urijah Faber will once again receive top billing, as it’s been officially announced that his Bantamweight debut will be the main event. Faber’s first opponent at 135 is no slouch: Takeya Mizugaki is a former WEC Bantamweight Championship contender and has gone 2-2 in the WEC. Here’s the official card so far as well as my thoughts. ...
When it comes to the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion, all eyes are rightfully on the upcoming WEC 51 show. Featuring such stars as Jose Aldo, Manvel Gamburyan, Jamie Varner, Donald Cerrone, Miguel Torres, Chan Sung Jung, and Leonard Garcia, WEC 51 is shaping up to be another fantastic event in a year filled to the brim with fantastic WEC events. Looking further into the future, WEC 52 recently received a big boost when it was announced that both former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber and former WEC Bantamweight Champion Brian Bowles would be making their returns to the famous blue cage at WEC 52. ...
It's no secret that Joseph Benavidez is one of the WEC's hottest commodities. With his fast-paced style and charismatic demeanor, he's an easy fan favorite, reminiscent of mentor, training partner, and friend Urijah Faber. But, doe's that mean that Benavidez, a challenger to champion Dominick Cruz' title, should earn more then the number one guy in his weight class? ...
Here we are after WEC 47 in Columbus, Ohio and a few things stood out as I watched the event. There were highlight reel knock outs, great submissions and a couple of failures during the evening. ...
WEC 47 will feature a main event title fight between bantamweight champion Brian Bowles (8-0) and challenger Dominick Cruz (14-1) in Columbus March 6, the promotion announced Monday. ...
Two-time WEC featherweight Cole Province (6-1) tested positive for methasterone, a banned performance enhancing steroid, after winning a UD over Fredson Paixao (8-4) at WEC 42 in Las Vegas 9 August, according to the Nevada State Athletic Commission which issued a report Monday. Also tested at WEC 42, but returning negative results were new WEC featherweight champ Brian Bowles (8-0), former champ Miguel Torres (36-2), Dominic Cruz (13-1), Takeya Mizugaki (10-3-2), "Bad Boy" Leonard Garcia (13-4), Shane Roller (5-2), "9mm" Ed Ratcliff (7-1), and "The Gun" Diego Nunes (11-2). Province's fight license in Nevada has been suspended pending an NSAC review of the positive test result. ...
The HardCore Gym's Brian Bowles (7-0) rifled towards a potential title shot after defeating Will Ribeiro (8-3) with an impressive guillotine choke at 1:11 of the third round at WEC 37 in Las Vegas Wednesday night.
"You know the guillotine choke is my 'go to' move in the gym," stated Bowles following the fight.
The first round was an exhibition of strong boxing technique by both fighters.
Former Olympian Ribeiro dished out some respectable leather; but, Bowles stood toe-to-toe to shock the Brazilian boxer with an oustanding right hand and left uppercut combination.

Fighters.com caught up with HardCore Gym standout and World Extreme Cagefighting rising star Brian Bowles (6-0-0) just days before his fight against Will Ribeiro (8-2-0) at WEC 37 in Las Vegas 3 December. Brian's undefeated record is beginning to stir notice amongst fans and analysts alike. The approaching fight is an extremely important affair as many insiders cite another win for the Georgia native will put him on track to a championship bout.
Fighters.com: Brian, there are some similarities between you and current WEC featherweight champion Mike Thomas Brown (16-4-0). Brown flew under most people's radar until he recently defeated "California Kid" Urijah Faber (21-2-0) at WEC 36. What are your thoughts on how the WEC has marketed fighters such as yourself, Brown and others?
Brian Bowles: Well, honestly, I think they do the best they can. I don't think they have a lot of room to market every fighter in the organization. So I think they just focus on their champs. You know, its a new organization.
Fighters.com: Your victory over "Angel of Death" Damacio Page (8-4-0) at WEC 35 was quite impressive. That guillotine choke you landed was devastating. Your upcoming opponent has three knockouts in his last four fights while you have wins by both striking and submissions. What discipline if any do you think twill benefit you most in the fight against Will Ribeiro (8-2-0).

"Natural Born Killer" Carlos Condit (23-4) can take his WEC welterweight title defense over Hiromitsu Miura (9-5) in Las Vegas Sunday night one of two ways. At 4:43 of round four, Condit touched - and, maybe that's all too literal of a description - Miura with a knee to the noggin. Miura's body and heart gave in to a brutal back-and-forth battle. He dove for Condit's ankle, and that was it. He had nothing left. Several times, Condit could've similarly surrendered on the receiving end of clean punches from the one-time middleweight, but didn't. That's why Condit is a champion and Miura isn't, both tonight and in general. However, before the fight Condit made clear that he didn't feel like Miura should be on the other side of the cage from him. Isn't that always the preface to a brutal back-and-forth battle? ...
Fighters.com was at Body English inside the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas Saturday for the WEC weigh-ins.
Everyone made weight, except for WEC lightweight title challenger "Wrecking Ball" Marcus Hicks (8-0), who needed an hour to drop one pound before stepping into the cage across from Champ "Worm" Jamie Varner (14-2).
Curiously, WEC Light Heavyweight Champion Brian Stann (6-0) weighed 201 1/2 pounds, causing "Version 2.5" Rory Singer (11-8) to shout from the crowd, "201! What!?"
Stann's opponent, Steve Cantwell (5-1), weighed-in at the 205-pound limit.
Refresh Fighters.com tonight for live coverage from The Joint in Las Vegas.

The WEC on Thursday added two more fights to its 3 August card in Las Vegas. Bantamweight Brian Bowles (5-0) will fight “Angel of Death” Damacio Page (10-3), and Micah Miller (9-1) will meet “The Fluke” Josh Grispi (8-1) in a featherweight match-up. Bowles, from Athens, GA, last fought in WEC 31 in December, where he KO’d “Louro” Marcos Galvao (6-2) in the second round. He made his professional debut two years ago. Albuquerque’s “Angel of Death” made his WEC debut in February when he replaced an injured Jesse Moreng (8-1) on short notice to win a unanimous decision over Scott Jorgensen (4-2). American Top Team fighter Miller will look to win his third fight in a row after his first career loss last June at WEC 28, a unanimous decision that went to Cub Swanson (12-2). Nineteen-year-old Grispi also made his WEC debut in February, submitting “The Machine” Mark Hominick (15-8) with a rear-naked choke in the first round. ...
