Former UFC welterweight Ben Saunders joins Bellator
Former UFC welterweight Ben Saunders joins Bellator

Ben Saunders showed flashes of brilliance in the short amount of time he was in the UFC. The American Top Team product debuted in the organization in December of 2007, following a semi-final run through the sixth season of "The Ultimate Fighter", Ben eventually racked up three-consecutive victories, keeping his then undefeated record alive. A savage TKO victory over Brandon Wolff, which was complimented by successive knee's to the head thanks to his 6'4 frame, catapulted Ben into the top of the welterweight class. However, Saunders went on to compile a 1-3 record over his next four fights, and was eventually released from the promotion. The UFC's loss was Bellator's gain. ...

UFC 117 Payroll Released, Silva and Hughes Top Earners
UFC 117 Payroll Released, Silva and Hughes Top Earners

Now that UFC 117 is now in the books, after one of the promotion's best night of fights in recent memory, where middleweight champion Anderson Silva defended his title against top contender Chael Sonnen, Matt Hughes solidified himself in the 170 pound division, and Junior dos Santos became the next challenger after Cain Velasquez, for the UFC heavyweight title. ...

Ben "Killa B" Saunders Feels the Sting of the UFC’s Pink Slip

The only man to ever knock out Marcus Davis has now been knocked out of the UFC. Ben Saunders, known as “Killa B”, recently tweeted that the UFC decided to cut him after his second-straight loss. Since debuting in the UFC in December 2007, Saunders compiled a 4-3 record, which included two (T)KO’s, one submission, and a three-fight win-streak. Unfortunately for Saunders, “The Irish Hand Grenade” was the only fighter of any note that Saunders beat in the UFC. Saunders was on a two-fight losing streak leading up to his departure from the world’s biggest MMA promotion, having lost a Unanimous Decision to top-ranked Jon Fitch and, most recently, having lost another Unanimous Decision to Dennis Hallman in what should have been a “gimme” fight for Saunders considering that Hallman was coming off of a KO loss. While I won’t say that Saunders’ firing is unwarranted, I will say that there may have been room for one last fight before giving him the pink slip. ...

UFC 117 Preview--Preliminary Card Pt. 1
UFC 117 Preview--Preliminary Card Pt. 1

With less than a week away from UFC 117, which will feature Anderson Silva in his 7th title defense, opposite of the sharp-tongued Chael Sonnen, will be held in Oakland, Cali., before a ruckus west coast crowd, with sure crowd pleasing fights anchoring the card. While there will be no SpikeTV broadcast of the preliminary card, I felt that there was some attention that was need to be made to our untelevised bretheren. ...

Yesterday on MMA Gospel Radio we had a massive three hour show with five amazing guests, one of which was Ryan Thomas (12-4) who just recently lost via one of the worst stoppages in mixed martial arts (MMA) history. He lost to Ben Askren (4-0) via a non verbal submission due to an arm triangle. The referee thought he had gone out when he was not even close to being put to sleep. What follows is MMA Gospel's interview with Ryan, done by Gary Friedman, that aired last night. This is the first installment of that amazing interview. ...

Jon Fitch: Georges St. Pierre "lost some vital opportunities to finish" At UFC 111

Fighters.com's third-ranked welterweight Jon Fitch (21-3) criticized Fighters.com and UFC Champion “Rush” Georges St. Pierre's (10-2) performance in the champion's five-round unanimous decision over fifth-ranked “Outlaw” Dan Hardy (23-6) at UFC 111 in Newark Saturday night. ...

All fighters must undergo pre-fight medicals including a CAT scan.  Fighters.com second-ranked welterweight "Pitbull" Thiago Alves (16-4) underwent his CAT scan and is now off the UFC 11 fight card. ...

Bruce Lee: The Original Mixed Martial Artist, And He's Coming Back

Contrary to popular belief, the story of modern mixed martial arts doesn't begin with UFC 1 in Denver in 1993 or with the Gracie family of Brazil. Though of course the Gracies deserve a prominent place in the history of MMA, their intention was never for fighters to begin training across styles.  Quite the opposite!  Their intention was to prove that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was the most dominant style of martial arts, a traditional and now seemingly archaic notion about dominance of a single fighting art.  Sport MMA is an unintentional by-product of their goal. No, UFC 1 created the most prominent forum ever for martial arts styles to mix, but the philosophical underpinnings of MMA began in the San Francisco Bay area in 1965 by an ingenious martial arts pioneer: Bruce Lee, known in his native China as Jun Fan. ...

UFC 111: Jake Ellenberger Replaces Martin Kampmann Versus Ben Saunders

UFC welterweight Jake Ellenberger (21-4) has been drafted to replace “Hitman” Martin Kampmann (16-3) versus Fighters.com's tenth-ranked welterweight  “Killa B” Ben Saunders (8-1-2) at UFC 111 in Newark March 27, according to MMA Weekly. ...

Predictions on Georges St. Pierre Versus Dan Hardy at UFC 111 Run the Gamut - Fighters.com’s February Welterweight Top Ten

There were no fights in the mixed martial arts welterweight top ten in January and, therefore, no movement in the rankings for February. Fighters.com and UFC Welterweight Champion "Rush" Georges St. Pierre (19-2) and fifth-ranked “Outlaw” Dan Hardy (23-6) are set to battle for the top spot at UFC 111 in Newark March 27.  Predictions range far and wide, from Hardy has one foot in the grave to Hardy is the man to upset St. Pierre like "The Terror” Matt Serra (9-6) di at UFC 69 in Houston in 2007. ...

UFC's Dan Hardy, Ben Saunders Surging - Fighters.com’s January Welterweight Rankings

Fighters.com's fifth-ranked welterweight “Outlaw” Dan Hardy (23-6) has one chance at beating Fighters.com and UFC Welterweight Champion "Rush" Georges St. Pierre (19-2) at UFC 111 in Newark March 27.  It's a slim chance, despite the hype that is being spun to convince us that the Hardy versus St. Pierre matchup is competitive. ...

"Killa B" Ben Saunders (7-0-2) defeated Brandon Wolff (5-3-0) via TKO stoppage at 1:49 of round one in an overwhelming display of Muay Thai technique Wednesday night at Fort Bragg during the UFC's "Fight for the Troops" event. The fight began with an unintentional low blow by Saunders. Upon the restart, Saunders landed a strong head kick followed by an aggressive and accurate swarm of knees and punches. Displaying clinchwork reminiscent of UFC middleweight champion "Spider" Anderson Silva (23-4), Saunders bloodied and bruised Wolff in decisive fashion. "I heard his reaction. He was grunting," said Saunders following the bout. "I knew I had him hurt. It was beautiful. I love it." Formerly a Navy SEAL, the game but battered Wolff was visibly rocked and unsteady on his feet following each break from multiple clinches early in the opening round. By fight's end, Wolff's face was was a mess of blood and tremendous swelling. After the quick first round destruction of his opponent, Saunders was enthusiastic in response to Joe Rogan's comparison of his performance to that of the current UFC middleweight champ. "That's awesome man because Anderson Silva is one of my idols," stated Saunders. Ben Saunders officially won via TKO due to strikes at 1:49 of the first round. ...

Ben Saunders and The Way of the Dragon

He was the fighter with a near constant smile. The jovial cast member who won over fans through his seemingly casual approach to a tough sport during the sixth season of SpikeTV's "The Ultimate Fighter." A lanky and unconventional martial artist, Ben Saunders (6-0-2) seemed to approach the UFC Octagon with optimism in his mind and the inspiration of Bruce Lee in his heart. A member of American Top Team, Ben Saunders is poised for a return to the Octagon at the UFC's "Fight for the Troops" 10 December, north of Charlotte. During the live charity event being televised on SpikeTV, Saunders is set to face former Navy SEAL, Brandon Wolff (5-2). An almost comic book mythos fills the air as a soldier of the military special forces faces a soldier of the Dragon. One question from the curious is how will Jeet Kune Do continue to fare in the mixed martial arts arena. Much less against a fighter with former military combat training. The rest of the UFC Fight for the Troops fight card, happening 10 December in Fayetteville, NC, has been revealed by USA Today.  The event will be headlined by Fighters.com’s fourth- and ninth-ranked welterweights Josh Koscheck (11-2) and Yoshiyuki Yoshida (10-2). Fighters.com's Welterweight Champion "Rush" Georges St. Pierre (17-2) defended his title in a five-round unanimous decision over top contender Jon Fitch (17-3) Saturday night in Minneapolis by scores of 50-44 twice and 50-43. The win facilitates an apparent New Year's Eve champion-versus-champion rematch between St. Pierre and Fighters.com's Lightweight Champion B.J. Penn (13-4-1), who was invited into the Octagon after the main event to challenge St. Pierre, saying, "I want to put this fight together." Florian photo courtesy of Josh Hedges and Zuffa, LLC.St. Pierre accepted Penn's challenge, proclaiming, "I'm a proud champion." In the co-main event, Brock Lesnar (2-1) dominated a three-round unanimous decision over Fighters.com's eighth-ranked heavyweight “Texas Crazy Horse” Heath Herring (28-14) by scores of 30-26 three times. "I fell off the horse," Lesnar told the 15,082 spectator hometown crowd referring to his Octagon debut loss to former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir (11-3), "but, tonight I got on that stallion and rode it out of town, baby! Wooo!" Fighters.com's seventh-ranked lightweight "KenFlo" Kenny Florian (10-3) won a blow-out unanimous decision over "El Matador" Roger Huerta (20-2-1) by 30-27 on all three judges' score cards in a UFC top contender bout. ...
