Light heavyweight “Sho Nuff The Master” Rodney Wallace (9-0) won the eight-man tournament and Minnesota Martial Arts Academy’s “Eraser” Derrick Noble (25-12-1) beat “Mr. International” Shonie Carter (45-19-7) at Vendetta FC's A Night of Vengeance in Aruba September 5. ...

Former UFC and WEC light heavyweight “Fury” Carmelo Marrero (9-3) and “Juggernaut” Antwain Britt (9-2) will fight in the first round of Vendetta Fighting Championships one-night eight-man light heavyweight tournament at A Night of Vengeance in Aruba Saturday 5 September, Fighters.com has confirmed. Marrero will seek vengeance for Britt's eight-second KO of Marerro's American Top Team stablemate "Samuray" Antonio Mendes (2-4) in the Shine Fights premier in Columbus last May. Marrero comes to the tournament from a UD loss to “Darth” Ryan Bader (7-0) at UFC Fight Night 18 in Nashville last April, Marrero’s second, though brief stint in the Octagon. ...

Vendetta Fighting Championships has secured a slot on FOX Sports South's 1 October schedule to rerun it's A Night of Vengeance MMA card which takes place live in Aruba 5 September, Fighters.com has learned from Event Coordinator Chris Allen. Former UFC heavyweight champion and King of Pancrase and veteran MMA broadcaster "El Guapo" Bas Rutten (28-4-1) will call the action, humorously no doubt, from ringside. FOX Sports Radio personality Tomm Looney will announce in the ring. The main event features fought-everywhere, pimped-everything “Mr. International” Shonie Carter (45-18-7) versus Minnesota Martial Arts Academy’s “Eraser” Derrick Noble (24-12-1). ...

UFC and MMA veteran "Mr. International" Shonie Carter (45-18-7) is still lighting up marquees and notching new stamps in his passport. MMA's pimp will headline Vendetta Fighting Championship's A Night of Vengeance in Aruba 5 September versus Minnesota Martial Arts Academy' "Eraser" Derrick Noble (24-12-1), a card that will also feature an eight-man light heavyweight tournament that includes Team Quest's Aaron Stark (8-4), "Juggernaut" Antwain Britt (9-2), and American Top Team's "Fury" Carmelo Marrero (9-3). Carter is on a three-fight winning run that most recently included a split decision over George Lockhart (7-3) at Throwdown III in Salt Lake City last February. One-time UFCer Noble came up short to "Mandingo" Antonio McKee (22-3-2) in a UD loss at MFC 20 in Enoch last February. ...

TUF 8: They Go At It

By Steve Cha "I like the small guys.  They go at it," UFC President Dana White stated to TUF 8 coach Frank Mir (11-3). Lightweights Wesley Murch (3-2) and John Polakowski (2-1), who, in his words, “loves giving hugs to everyone”, didn’t disappoint White in the first fight of the night on Wednesday’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter 8. Both fighters were able to land strikes and take each other’s backs; however, at the end of the first round, British fighter Murch injured his shin on a low kick attempt.  Ouch! Murch braved the pain, but, early in the second round, collapsed; and, the ref was forced to stop the fight. True to his words, Polakowski hugged Fighters.com’s top heavyweight contender and TUF 8 coach “Minotauro” Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (31-4-1), White, and Mir, forcing an admission from Nog': " I don’t care, you know.  I like to hug too." ...

TUF 8: Fainting Phillipe Fights Back

"The fight starts right now," proclaimed Fighters.com's top heavyweight contender "Minotauro" Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (31-4-1) about his eventual UFC title defense turned fight for top UFC contendership versus Frank Mir (11-3). UFC President Dana White proclaimed the same thing to this season's 32 contestants to be coached by Nog' and Mir for the TUF 8 championship at lightweight and light heavyweight; but, before he could finish his sentence, Phillipe Nover (5-0-1) hit the deck in a fainting spell. "Fainting Phillipe" White called him; and, Nover had a tough opening challenge versus Joe Duarte (3-0). "I'm going to have to make him faint again," Duarte said before the fight. But, it was Duarte who had to tap in a Nover rear naked choke in the second round to keep from fainting. Nover opened the first round with a head kick, followed by a body kick. "He hits like a heavyweight," Nog' said. But, Duarte countered a Nover leg kick with a straight left that dropped Nover. Duarte pounced; and, Nover gave up his back and ate an elbow.  But, Nover actually pounded Duarte while Duarte had his back and attempted a rear naked choke. ...

"Diesel" Travis Wiuff (52-11) battled five rounds versus three heavyweights Friday night in Atlantic City to conquer YAMMA Pit Fighting's first tournament. In non-tournament action, forty-four-year old original Ultimate Fighter challenger Patrick Smith (15-13) submitted 417-pound "Butterbean" Eric Esch (10-6-1) with strikes. And, "The Russian Bear" Oleg Taktarov (16-5-2) also won by submission over "The Titan" Mark Kerr (15-7). The tournament featured one-round fight-offs into the semi-finals. Wiuff drew Brazilian Marcel Pereira (0-1) and pummeled the jits player on the mat over five minutes for the unanimous decision. The tourney had commenced with an Alexey Oleinik (7-4) front-choke submission of "The Tank" Sherman Pendergarst at 4:18. Chris Tuscherer (13-1) had dominated Tony Sylvester (10-2) for a unanimous decision. And, former UFC Heavyweight Champion "Suave" Ricco Rodriguez (28-9) had taken George Bush (5-1) down at will to score a UD. The second round also featured one-round fight-offs pairing Oleinik versus Tuscherer and Wiuff versus Rodriguez. Again, Tuscherer dominated his opponent in G'n'P fury for a unanimous decision; and, Wiuff similarly overwhelmed the veteran Rodriguez, also for a UD. In the three-round tournament final, Tuscherer didn't do more than frustrate the seemingly fresher Wiuff.  Wiuff closed out round one with a left-right combo that bloodied Tuscherer.  Rounds two and three were fought mostly on the mat, with Wiuff unloading ground'n'pound in spurts while Tuscherer was somewhat effective tying him up. At the final bell, Wiuff took all three judges' cards 30-27 twice and 29-28. In the event's "Masters Superfight" main event, Smith shredded Bean's pillar-like legs with kicks that eventually fell the massive man.  Esch was helpless on his back as Smith beat him to verbal submission at 3:17 of round one. After absorbing a massive right from Kerr in the other "Masters Superfight", Taktarov swept into a side kneebar to tap "The Titan" at 1:50 of round one. The night had popped-off at the end of a "Philly Badass" Lamont Lister (4-3) overhand right that dropped Russian Oleg Savitsky (1-2) in a tournament alternate bout.  "Badass" finished him on the mat for a 33-second TKO. In the other tourney alternate bout, Bryan Vetell (4-3) won a one-round unanimous decision over Antwain Britt (3-1). ...
