Strikeforce welterweight champ Nate Marquardt is one of the most soft-spoken, humble fighters in Mixed Martial Arts. He’s also one of the most talented, possessing a well-rounded set of skills leading him to past victories over a number of notable opponents including Demian Maia, Rousimar Palhares, and Martin Kampmann.
However, Marquardt’s rise to the relative top wasn’t an overnight process and is a true success story in the sense he endured both emotional and physical abuse as a child. It’s a tale Marquardt has rarely told but shared for a feature from Showtime promoting his January 12 tilt against Tarec Saffiedine.

I’d like to see the UFC do some similar features now that STrikeforce is gone.
Didn’t know that at all about Marquardt. Props to him for talking about it publicly.
