Former Strikeforce heavyweight Chad Griggs has indeed signed with the UFC and will make his debut at UFC 145. However, the 11-1 “Gravedigger” has drawn anything but a guaranteed win in his initial Octagon offering, as it appears he will face undefeated Travis Browne in the March 24 match-up.
According to the UFC both men have verbally agreed to the bout with inked paperwork soon to follow.
Griggs Rumored to Be Next Strikeforce Heavyweight Heading to the UFC
Browne holds an overall record of 12-0-1 with the Draw coming to Cheick Kongo at UFC 120. He has three wins under the UFC banner including victories over James McSweeney, Stefan Struve, and most recently Rob Broughton. Nine of his triumphs have come as the result of a strike-based stoppage.
The 33-year old Griggs is no stranger to finishing opponents with all eleven of his wins coming via TKO/submission. He has emerged with his hand raised in six straight scraps including those against Bobby Lashley and Valentijn Overeem.
Browne-Griggs will join Rory MacDonald vs. Che Mills as the only two fights announced thus far for the Montreal card.
