Johny Hendricks Wary of Jake Ellenberger’s Power Entering UFC 158 Fight

UFC welterweight Johny Hendricks did his best to get a crack at champion Georges St-Pierre, staking his claim with five consecutive wins including those over Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, and Martin Kampmann. However, the UFC (and GSP for that matter) opted for Nick Diaz as the French-Canadian’s next opponent, leaving Hendricks to look elsewhere for opportunity.

Ultimately the bearded brawler ended up paired against Jake Ellenberger for a March match-up at UFC 158. Though St-Pierre might be the division’s title-holder and a pound-for-pound great, Hendricks actually feels Ellenberger is as big a threat based on his well-documented knockout power.

“It’s not that it’s more difficult but, it’s a little bit more dangerous, you know what I’m saying? Like I said, you don’t know which punch will be the last.”

“With GSP, you know where he’s going to want to take it, you know he’s not going to want to stand with you. He’s going to want to go in there set up his jab, throw a few leg kicks, or he’s going to get you to the perimeter, to that black line, and you know a double leg is coming. Ellenberger, he is going to try to knock you out before he takes you down.”

I wouldn’t mind seeing Hendricks against Diaz if St-Pierre goes out either.

I don’t think it’ll matter anyways. Diaz will probably get pulled from the fight with GSP and Hendricks will slide in.
