Nick Diaz Versus Marius Zaromskis For Strikefore 170-Pound Title, And DREAM's Title Too
By: Chad Edward Posted On: December 19, 2009 at 11:42amNick Diaz (20-8) and DREAM welterweight champion “Whitemare” Marius Zaromskis (12-2) will matchup for the Strikeforce welterweight title in Miami January 30, according to MMA Weekly.
For fans only familiar with the UFC, the names might sound vaguely familiar or entirely unfamiliar; but, the Diaz-Zaromskis matchup is a fight core fans can get excited about.
Diaz’s raw talent, attitude, and tenacity has turned him infamous in MMA circles. The brother of The Ultimate Fighter 5 champion Nate Diaz (10-5) and holding a 6-4 UFC record himself, Diaz tapped out “Hands of Steel” Scott Smith (15-7) at Strikeforce in St. Louis June 6.
Zaromski planted himself firmly on the MMA map after a pair of head kick knockouts of “Mach” Hayato Sakurai (32-8-3) and Jason High (6-1) at DREAM.10 north of Tokyo July 20. The wins earned him the DREAM welterweight title.
Though Strikeforce and DREAM do collaborate, Zaromskis contract in this matchup is with Strikeforce. It’s unclear whether the fight is technically a title unification fight, in which Zaromskis would also put up his DREAM title.
Diaz has also fought in DREAM, TKOing Katsuya Inoue (15-6-2) at DREAM.3 north of Tokyo last year. Whether Zaromskis DREAM title is technically on the line or not, its legitimacy certainly is as Diaz would rightfully become the uncrowned champion of DREAM with a win regardless of who wears the belt.

DREAM title is not on the line. If Diaz wins on Jan 30 they will fight again sometime in Japan for the DREAM title because it has to be in a ring.. This was all said in his press conference….
