For the just the second time in his 15+ year career, Mike Swick woke up on a cage floor with a knockout loss on his record. This one was different, Swick was fighting for the second time since 2010 and looking to add another win after beating DaMarques Johnson at UFC On FOX in August. Swick was knocked out at 2:31 of the second round by Matt Brown in their UFC on FOX 5 fight from earlier in the month. After the loss, once again fickle fans were calling for the retirement of Mike Swick, but according to the welterweight, they shouldn’t hold their breath.
Swick told Sherdog:
“You’ve got to pick yourself back up. I’ve been through so much, so much before this that was harder and tougher. I’ve just got to get myself back up.
On the shot that knocked him out:
“I always have pain in my jaw. It always hurts to bite down after a fight. That’s just the way it is because you get hit in the jaw, and where the bone locks into your head, it always gets pulled and stretched, but for some reason, my jaw was completely fine. It’s amazing how clean that shot was.”
Swick thinks he is still getting better:
“Even though I won a really good fight in August, there were parts of that fight I didn’t like. I wanted to perform better. I trained really hard and put a lot of hard work into these last 10 weeks to put on the performance I wanted to, and it didn’t happen.”
