WEC 47: Brian Bowles Versus Dominick Cruz in Columbus, Ohio
By: Chad Edward Posted On: December 14, 2009 at 10:08pm
WEC 47 will feature a main event title fight between bantamweight champion Brian Bowles (8-0) and challenger Dominick Cruz (14-1) in Columbus March 6, the promotion announced Monday.
Former champ Miguel Torres (36-2) and “Little Evil” Jens Pulver (22-10-1) will also appear on the card.
Bowles is coming off of a first-round knockout of Torres to win the title at WEC 42 in Las Vegas August 9.
Cruz bested Joseph Benavidez (7-1) in a unanimous decision the same night.
Pulver publicly battled inner demons such as depression over the years and seemingly left the sport of MMA for good following his loss to Josh Grispi (1-0) at WEC 41 in June of 2009. But, the early UFC superstar found recent success through medication over his mental disorders and is motivated to make a run at a comeback.
WEC 47 will occur in Columbus alongside the 2010 Arnold Sports Festival.
