Last night’s bout between UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and former title-holder Lyoto Machida lived up to the high expectations most had entering UFC 140 after the Brazilian challenger came out strong only for “Bones” to take over in the second round, putting him away with a Standing Guillotine Choke.
Not only was it an entertaining affair but was even named “Fight of the Night” with both men earning an additional $75,000 on top of their regularly contracted rates.
“Submission of the Night” honors went to Frank Mir who became the first opponent to tap Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira out in the legendary grappler’s career. Mir earned the award and attached cash after coming back from the brink of defeat to lock in a devastating Kimura that resulted in Nogueira’s arm being snapped at the shoulder.
Last but not least, Chan Sung Jung came away with “Knockout of the Night” after beating Mark Hominick in seven seconds with a perfectly timed punch that left the Canadian in a crumpled heap. As with the other bonus-winners, Jung also received $75,000 for the distinction.
