Miguel Torres remorseful about infamous “rape” Tweet

Bantamweight Miguel Torres has been through a number of fights in his life but perhaps no struggle as damaging as that he finds himself in currently after a failed attempt at humor regarding “rape vans” through Twitter lead to his release from the UFC despite a significant amount of success under the Zuffa banner and widespread popularity amongst fans.

The 40-4 Torres finally made an official statement on the matter through his website where he apologized and vowed to do whatever it took to repair his relationship with his former employers and the public at large.

“I am very sorry for upsetting my bosses at the UFC, and also to my fans and everyone else who was upset by the language in my Tweets. I understand it was wrong, and I meant no harm or disrespect,” Torres wrote. “Given the chance, I will do whatever it takes to make things right. I am going to learn from this. I think life throws you opportunities that can make you a better person, and so that’s what I’m going to do here. That is how I am going to react. I am going to use this to improve myself, and I hope that my fans will continue to support me.”

In recent interviews UFC President Dana White has not backed off his stance regarding the 135er’s ill-fated joke saying that the context and nonchalance originally exhibited by Torres irked him more than simply just the subject matter.

White Says Torres’ UFC Career is Done

As it stands options for Torres could include Japan, competing on a variety of regional promotions, or perhaps a run in Bellator.
