Fresh off a lopsided victory over Jason Miller, it looks like UFC middleweight Michael Bisping won’t be wasting any time before getting back inside the Octagon as the UFC has announced “The Count” will clash with Demian Maia at UFC on FOX 2 as part of a televised broadcast already featuring Chael Sonnen vs. Mark Munoz and Phil Davis vs. Rashad Evans.
The UFC announced the fight earlier today.
Bisping will be going for his fifth win in a row when he meets Maia with the streak including victories over Yoshihiro Akiyama, Dan Miller, Jorge Rivera, and most recently Miller at this past weekend’s TUF 14 Finale. The 32-year old Brit holds an overall record of 22-3 with eighteen stoppages and has yet to be submitted in his career, the latter being an important statistic when considering his upcoming adversary’s bag of BJJ tricks.
At 15-3, Maia is considered to be one of the top BJJ artists in the middleweight division as well as MMA in general. More than half of his wins have resulted from tapping an opponent out including an opening round submission of Sonnen in 2009. He was last seen outpointing Jorge Santiago at UFC 136.
UFC on FOX 2 is scheduled for January 28 in Chicago. In addition to the “Tripleheader”, the card will also be highlighted by preliminary pairings like Evan Dunham vs. Paul Sass and Eddie Wineland vs. Demetrious Johnson.
