Strikeforce heavyweight upstart Herschel Walker was recently sidelined from last Saturday’s Dec. 4 event at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Miss.
Herschel was originally expected to meet Scott Carson, however sustained a cut while in training that would later prevent him from competing in the heavyweight tilt.
Following Saturday’s successful event, which featured a headliner pitting legends Dan Henderson and Renato Sobral against one another in a title eliminator, which “Hendo” later clinched after knocking out “Babalu” inside of the first round, Scott Coker revealed that Walker may be able to make an immediate return to the ring, as early as January of next year.
Following Saturday’s event, during the post-fight press conference, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker spoke with MMAJunkie.com. When asked whether or not the Heisman Trophy winner would be able to return to action as early as January, “Yeah, absolutely,” said Scott. “I think he’ll be healed by then for sure.”
The mixed martial arts newbie made his professional debut opposite of Greg Nagy under the Strikeforce banner this past January, wearing down the then 1-1 Nagy en route to a third-round TKO victory.
No word has been mentioned as far as who Walker’s next opponent might be, WEC veteran Scott Carson, Herchel’s initial opponent this past Saturday, would be the most logical choice.
So, MMA peeps, what do you make of the news? Do you want to see Herschel in there again as soon as the Jan 29. event? Walker will undoubtedly have the crowd behind his side at the HP Pavilion, since his training with the American Kickboxing Academy coincides with the familiar surroundings of San Jose, Cali.
