Eddie Mendez Injured, Cody Donovan to Step In and Face Nick Penner at UFC on FX 6

Eddie Mendez will not be making his UFC debut at UFC on FX 6 in Gold Coast, Australia after all, as a shoulder injury will prevent him from taking the fight with Nick Penner. Mendez (7-0-1, 1 NC) will be replaced by another fighter poised to make his Octagon debut, Cody Donovan (7-2).

Donovan fights out of Grudge Training Center, is riding a three-fight winning streak going in to the December 15th card. His most recent victory came by way of Rear-Naked Choke in June of this year.

MMAJunkie reported:

The undefeated middleweight prospect today announced a shoulder injury has forced him out of next week’s UFC on FX 6 event. His original opponent, Nick Penner, now meets promotional newcomer Cody Donovan. Mendez vs. Donovan is expected to be part of the prelims.
